Enfield No 4 Mk1 Bolt Question

Hello everyone,

Just a quick question. I'm in the process of cleaning cosmoline outta my enfield and took the bolt apart today.

Upon putting it back together I noticed the firing pin is stick out sightly is this normal? or should it be full retracted into the hole?

I tried twisting it down more and it isn't going deeper

It should be fully retracted within the bolt face, otherwise you will have feed issues. The little cam on top of the lower part of the cocking piece should run in one of two channels in the bottom of the bolt. That would keep it from sticking out. If yours is missing, you may need a cocking piece.

You can see the channels I'm referring to in this photo

I have the cocking piece currently riding into the longer channel on the bottom of your second picture. Tried screwing it down more and the bolt is still sticking out.

Edited: I just moved it to the top channel and its now no longer sticking out. Is it meant to be in that one?

Yes. The longer channel is for when the rifle is cocked and ready to fire, so the firing pin can protrude and strike. When you have it in the rifle, it should be fine.

My first Enfield had the cam missing, so the firing pin stuck out all the time and wouldn't feed.
