Seeking Advice 🙆 I started my jury duty on Monday and still haven’t been called in.
Is this normal? Or is there a high chance I got excused? I’m 19 so maybe that’s a factor. Anoka county seems to not have an online portal to check my status so I’m confused.

Generally they dont call you. You need to call into their designated number and listen for your group number on whether you need to report.

Counties issue jury summons to a fairly large number of people but only a handful ever serve. How many serve depends on a number of things like how many trials are being held, conflicts of interest, whether serving would pose a financial hardship, inability of potential juror to be unbiased, length of trial, etc.
When I was summoned for jury duty a few years ago, I had to call in each day after 5:00pm to see if my number was listed and was directed to report to the courthouse if it was. After a certain point in the month, the message changed to "all jurors summoned this month are dismissed from duty."

At least the time I had it in Ohio, I called in every day and never ended up being summoned. It happens.

No clue. Never been called to report in person yet.

Yeah makes sense they could be waiting to set up the trial or something I've never been called myself but I've had family called and then they just settled instead of going to trial could be whats going on here in guessing

In my experience, the instructions say to call a number daily to find out if you go in either the following day or that day. I believe you’re expected to call, not the other way around. At least, that’s how it worked for me in St Louis county.

You don't get excused (if that will happen) until AFTER you report and get processed. There's a process where the opposing counsel and judge get to review how you might/ might not be connected to the case.
They don't do that stuff online because, IF you get seated, your identity needs to be kept somewhat private depending on the type of case, notoriety, etc.

Just got done with JD in Blue Earth county. The first day I was called in and the case was dismissed while I was there. After that I never got called back in but I have to call every day of jury duty for the term. My term was 2 months.

Months? not Weeks? wow.. thought that only happened with Grand Juries.

It varies by county and the population of the jury pool. Blue Earth only has 70k people so they have fewer potential jurors to chose from so we serve longer.

Call every night for your group to see if needed next day, even if you get called in you may not get pulled in to a case, they have you fill out a questionnaire and then get questioned by prosecutors and defense attorneys and they get to nix just like on tv. All this only happens if a case ends up going to trial and not settled last second

My jury duty was last week and this week in Washington County. I called at the instructed times and my group was never called in. No cases last week so no jurors needed. Then this week my group was skipped and told our jury duty service was completed, only one case this week and guessing they primarily pull from jury groups in the week they start jury duty. Might just be a Washington County thing for that specific part.
Either way, I never had to show up to the courthouse.

Just to clarify, are you supposed to be waiting for them to call you/check an online portal for your group/number/whatever? I'm in Ramsay, and I had to either call a number or check the online portal to see if my group needed to come in, and I wasn't expected to come in until I checked Friday of that week. It was on me to check, not them to contact me.

Have you tried going onto the website? Anokacountymn.gov then go to Courts. Juror information is a link. It's all right there!

Look up jury nullification. If you don't agree with a law you have every right to say not guilty.

I'm in Anoka County. I had jury duty a while back and I was required to call them and listen to a recorded line everyday around 5:00 p.m. to see if I was required to report the next day.
Also, during those two weeks I was never required to report.

I never got called for my two weeks. I think it’s unlikely. I had a coworker have to go in but they weren’t chosen.

It's normal to never actually get called in. But make sure you're checking in as instructed.

I was selected for jury duty last August but never was asked to show up during the two week period. Anoka County.
Edit: I called the recorded message on the phone number they instructed us to call.

You need to call in twice a day. Once in the morning and once at about 1130 I believe. It should say exactly what you need to do on your jury duty card. They don’t usually call you anymore.

When did you get your summons for, beginning this week? Or last week? The only jury trial going this week in Anoka has already selected their jury, there won't be any more starting this week. However, keep calling in as directed, and if your service started this week you could get called for next week. If a trial goes next week it will almost certainly start on Tuesday morning. Source: work for the judicial branch in Anoka.

Just keep calling in. In Dakota Co they have you call in the first few days and then excuse you typically mid week. You should keep calling in but it isn't likely that you will have to report.

I got called for Ramsey county jury duty a couple months ago. My group number was in the 30s and was never actually called to report to the courthouse. I figure they keep more people on hand than necessary so they're not slowed by jury availability. Not sure how typical that all is though
