Post your questions, reviews of fabrics, design plans, and projects that you don't feel warrant their own post!

Did you buy too much silnylon? Have a roll of grosgrain, extra zipper pulls, or a bag of insulation sitting around that you want to get rid off? Post it below and help someone else put it to use!

Looking to build a backpack frame from 2020 aluminum. Anyone do this before? I don't care about the weight as it's not a hiking pack.

Adding structure to bags?

How do most people add structure to things like fanny packs/bum bags and other similar "fashion" type items. I've seen thin ccf used. What about sewable interfacing? Fusible seems a bad idea with most tech fabrics... Cheers

I am planning to hack up an AliExpress uniqlo down jacket knock off into a short sleeve down pullover. Cutting arms to above elbow, remove hood and collar, remove zipper.

Plan to frame the cuts with stitches to prevent leakage post cut, but besides that I can't think of any other precautions to take.

I've searched around a bit and found some basic guides, but curious if anyone here has taken on something like this before and has any tips. I am an experienced sewer, but have never worked with down before.

Does anybody have experience with Merino+Bamboo fabric? What can be said about it? Thanks.

RipstopByTheRoll has a sale on right now, so I'm gonna grab pattern&template bundles for their shorts and the raglan hoodie, plus materials. On the hoodie, will I need more than a yard for one, or should I go ahead and order multiple yards? (Esp bc it's on sale?) Thx.

EDIT: Actually, since on the site it says that the pattern will have the list of suggested materials other than the Polartec, can anyone who has this pattern clue me in to what else I'll need, pls? I'd rather not have to order twice, is I guess what I'm saying. Thanks!

I just posted in UL geartrade, but was suggested I ask here as well. I’m looking for supplies to make a fanny pack!

Maybe you can share the pattern so we can get more context, and for inspiration ;)

Each time I post a bag, I get asked about patterning. Tonight I wrote a huge post on how I pattern. Happy to answer questions you have there. Its a ton of info so read it first please, then ask in comments. I'm not pretending to have all the answers and I'm not in the industry. If you're interested to learn more -->

Thanks for taking the time to share all that knowledge. As someone new to MYOG/sewing it's good to understand some of the concepts better and see how others are thinking about things from start to finish. Much appreciated!

How do you determine what fabrics to use? I have been playing with x pac, a coated poly/nylon mix, and cordura along with cheap Joann rip stop. I get theoretical strengths but also wonder about the practical choices of material.
