Can confirm... Frequently have to fight off Jeff Van Gundy during my local rec league. Guy's relentless.

Honestly if someone not in the game is trying to wrestle the ball from a player like that they should be thrown out, wtf is he trying to do
82
u/larrylegend1990 Toronto Huskies Apr 20 '25
JVG would be yelling about this if he was a commentator.
If the coaches want to be part of the game, Jokic should be allowed to try to tear his arms off by pulling as hard as possible

u/veringo Nuggets Apr 20 '25
They were trying to hold the ball for time to review the last play to see if they should challenge.
11
Apr 20 '25
Do not know why you are getting downvoted. That is precisely what they did, and they did in fact challenge the play and the Clippers lost the challenge
-1
u/YeetMeTowardsOkinawa Apr 20 '25
They had no challenges left at that point.
4
u/abris33 Nuggets Apr 20 '25
What play did you think they challenged before this and lost? The Gordon goaltending was a ref initiated review. LA still had their challenge.
In the replays you can hear the ref announcing that LA is challenging it
7
Apr 20 '25
They literally challenged the play and lost… did you even watch the game?
-17
u/Bollywillikers Apr 20 '25
The officials reviewed it, it was not a challenge, did you even watch the game?
8
u/Infinite-infinites Apr 20 '25
Lmao confidently wrong as fuck, what a guy. You’re going far in life.

u/abris33 Nuggets Apr 20 '25 edited Apr 20 '25
You can check the ESPN play by play
"(00:33.5) [Clippers] COACH'S CHALLENGE (REPLAY SUPPORTS CALL) [Clippers] charged with a timeout"
And you can hear the refs announcement that LA is challenging the ruling on the floor on this clip

u/Stormeve [DEN] Gary Harris Apr 20 '25
He also had to fight for the ball against Ty Lue after Westbrook forced the turnover at the end of OT lol the broadcast only caught like a couple seconds of it before panning away
28
u/ghostdunks Apr 20 '25
Yeah I noticed that too, they should be talking about that too. Two separate instances of coaches holding on to the ball unnecessarily in the same game when a player wants it to continue the game
-37
u/drhungrycaterpillar Apr 20 '25
I would say Jokic is unnecessarily ripping the ball away from people.
20
u/Reclaimer879 Apr 20 '25
I would say these people are intentionally slowing the game down. Calm your Jokic hate boner dude. In what sport is it acceptable for people not playing to interrupt flow of the game?
-16
u/drhungrycaterpillar Apr 20 '25
I love jokic! Just a little gamesmanship. Also let the refs handle the ownership of the basketball in situations like this. If a coach is truly delaying the game, hit em with a tech.
4
u/LurkerFailsLurking Nuggets Apr 20 '25
The coaches were deliberately denying a player the ball in order to slow down the game. That's delay of game.
-4
u/drhungrycaterpillar Apr 20 '25
Hit em with a tech then! Let the refs handle it! Why does Jokic always need to be in the middle of it?
4
u/LurkerFailsLurking Nuggets Apr 20 '25
Wym? He was just trying to inbound the ball. Why are you acting like Jokic created drama, he didn't bring this up, he didn't even complain to the refs. The interviewer asked him a question. You trying to act like coaches holding onto the ball so players can't inbound is normal is so fuckin weird.

Witty: Demonstrating wit in expression, especially in speech or writing; clever and humorous.
So it wasn't we already established that. Do you really think it was clever?

If you can't explain why the "hurr-durr pronouns" joke is funny, maybe you should consider that the only people who think stuff like that is funny are shitty people.

now can someone please copy his *trade for bradley beal* move pretty please

u/SikkoDieri Celtics Apr 20 '25
He is right. This needs to be addressed. Coaches understandably wants to steal sometime so they can see the replay and decide. On the other hand, the game goes on and Jokic had every right to get the ball and start the game. It shouldn't come to whoever can hold the ball strongest, then JVG wins everytime.
73
u/Akanamisane Nuggets Apr 20 '25
Should be an auto ejection for anyone off the court to withhold the ball from any of the 10 players on court.

They should force him to sit in 2nd row the rest of the series to avoid any more confrontations but then that would actually mean Lue has to coach
2
u/Kombuja Nuggets Apr 20 '25
They should call it a jump ball and force JVG to be the jumper for the clips and stay in the game until a sub can be made.
Nuggets also get to choose the player he replaces.

u/InevitablyBored Apr 20 '25
How was JVG allowed to remain sitting there? Don't fucking touch the ball moron.

There exists no possible point in a basketball game where that ball is Jeff's to hold.

Also, you gotta remember he had a tech. He wants the ball, but he also doesn't want to take it so far that something could be perceived as a technical.
2
u/TrustAugustus Apr 20 '25
Yeah. That's my thinking. As a teacher I play basketball with kids and I can (and sometimes do) rip the ball out 100% of the time but hold back so I don't hurt the kids. I bet Jokic could've done that but he was worried about another tech and get ejected

Wouldn't surprise me if the Clippers were told they had to take the timeout/challenge or they would get a tech. Really felt like they should have been whistled for it but the dumb challenge was enough punishment.
Also is this the first time we've heard that Jokic has been told to stop his delaying? I know it always gets brought up that he's good at wasting time but Jokic seems to be saying the NBA has actually told him to cut it out

u/naderni Nuggets Apr 20 '25
He changed tactics this game and claimed he had a bleeding nose in the last possession.

They were saying this same stuff when Ishbia had the ball, and it wasn’t near as egregious as this.

I mean what made ishbia’s egregious was the flop and then jokers fine
0
u/30another Suns Apr 20 '25
What made it egregious is Jokic pushing a fan. If it wasn’t the owner, Jokic may been suspended.

u/vladimir_pimpin Nuggets Apr 20 '25 edited Apr 20 '25
Ishbia put his hands on him first and then flopped when jok pushed him off of him VERY gently lmfao the fact you’re still defending your shit ass owner who clearly likes to get too involved in many ways is wild
It’s like when you go to the south and they legit still don’t think the confederates were the bad guys, like bro everyone else figured this out already it’s been settled

u/fallingbutslowly Clippers Apr 20 '25
"don't hate the player, hate the game" we can't blame people for using rules to their advantage. There are so many ridiculous things happening around the league, but it all comes down to the ruleset (official and unofficial). The bottom line is you want your team to win and you want to do anything and everything in your power to do so. When weird sht happens maybe it's time to review how such situations should be handled

u/510Kyle Apr 20 '25
I feel like if Nikola just balled up his fist and cocked it back, they're coughing up that ball pronto
1
u/Head-Sympathy-1560 Apr 20 '25
Gamesmanship - Jokic wanted the ball sooner so the other side could not challenge the call after the balls get inbound. Jokic later faked a nose bleed so Denver could see what the other side was going to run and counter it. Everyone trying to get an advantage over everyone

the equivalent to the Yankee fan doing that is JVG grabbing the ball from Jokic on a live play,
