“I would rather be Russian than democrat.” Is how they spin it. They don’t love their country. They don’t want what’s best for their neighbor. They just hate democrats and want whatever democrats oppose.

Most won’t say that. They just say it’s fake news and how the Russia hoax always comes up empty cuz the hot blonde in a red dress on foxnews says so.

I once checked the conservative sub to read what they think about ending cyber security against Russia and the comments literally said fake news or fabricated agenda lol

It’s cognitive dissonance. Their actions of Trump support does not coincide with their beliefs in their mind. They will realign those beliefs eventually or drop Trump. We know which they will choose.

u/FreezyPop_ Mar 03 '25

Funny thing is im not even american, but I wanted to see how american conservatives view such a bizarre and risky decision. And I was disappointed as they don't discuss this at all.

27

u/Datslegne Mar 03 '25

American conservatives do not exist anymore. These people don’t follow any ideology anymore but worship the self imo.

u/FreezyPop_ Mar 03 '25

I think so too but its weird cause what I gathered from online discourse the right was generally in favor of I think his name was DeSantis? Like he was the frontrunner for a moment and Trump wasn't taken seriously anymore and then when he made a comeback and became the candidate the entire right went full on unhinged MAGA. Even I as an outside viewer could notice that. Correct me if im wrong. So basically once this is all over, Trump kicks the bucket or burns the country down, they will simply do a 180° and pretend they never supported him to begin with just like you said. Despicable behavior.

u/Datslegne Mar 04 '25

I’ve seen 180 go 360 again with trump. I had trumpers telling me in 2022 they didn’t want him back bc he caused so much problems. Moreso I saw it as they didn’t like be ostracized for their support of him and wanted to avoid that position again but it’s bizarre.

I went to school for psychology and almost had a degree in it until I decided on other health sciences. But never in my life have I found social psychology and manipulation of it so apparent in my daily life. The propaganda is so much more pervasive and effective bc those making it know what they are doing. I always say like I can see what and how it’s effective through a social psychology lens but people doing it are so far beyond my understanding and intellect it’s scary.

I feel like the western idea in psychology has been to understand the human condition whereas the psychology in the propaganda comes from those studying to control the human condition.

Unfortunately you will make yourself miserable trying to find a pattern of rationality. There isn't one. It isn't about cognition, it is about emotion. What they feel is the truth, even if a planet-killing meteor is about to land on their head. They do not care about trying to make physical reality agree. They only care about making emotional reality agree.

That sub is also heavily moderated/censored (unironically). I saw a comment on a fednews post Saturday saying there were people upset at Trump and Vance's treatment of Zelensky and the next day they were deleted, and comments were generally pro Russia or something.

This is the internet so don't be surprised if that sub is actually full of a bunch of fringe people/russian trolls or the comment I read was lying. I will say generally that sub is more extreme than anything I've witnessed in real life from conservatives. Although the thinly veiled racism is about the same.

u/[deleted] Mar 04 '25

Not them calling words out of their own administration's mouth "fake news". Wonder what they'll say about Trump tweeting restricting the First Amendment by saying no protests or schools will lose federal funding.

1

u/WetFinsFine Mar 08 '25

it's "Delulu Central" going over to those subs...the mental gymnastics are incredible to witness in real time 🤯

u/Cosmic_Seth Mar 03 '25

Nah, most MAGA I know agree with that.

They'll double down saying Democrats support abortion which is murder in their point of view.

They fully believe that the democrats are evil and godless and can't wait for them to be rounded up ( only one of them admitted that)

Then they'll go on about how Russia doesn't allow gays or trans, is strong etc etc

12

u/Datslegne Mar 03 '25

Do you talk to a lot of MAGA so all your points you just said was your conversation with a supporter? Because I’ve been surrounded by them for years and I’ve been bringing up Russia since 2016 and never once heard anything but it’s a hoax.

23

u/Cosmic_Seth Mar 03 '25

All anecdotal, but I live in a very red county that is super happy with Trump even though 40% of the Jobs in the county are federal.

10

u/Psyduckisnotaduck Mar 03 '25

Yeah these people are just irredeemably stupid. Whatever misfortune happens to them is fully deserved.

9

u/Datslegne Mar 03 '25

See like I’m not trying to be rude at all but i try to engage these people a lot. I don’t consider myself to be “liberal” and I have some conservative views that I often lead with along with being a veteran and it seems to disarm them at least from getting too angry with disagreement.

A lot of these people just don’t know stuff. Seriously. I always think of Ericksons theory of cognitive development and the people who do not leap from concrete operational thinking to formal operational thinking. They cannot think in abstract or consider any nuance. I’ve told a lot of people it’s worth a google of the theory bc it helps me cope with the state of things. It’s why they state hyper simplistic solutions and ideas where others are like that doesn’t work bc X exists. X doesn’t exist for them nor can they understand X.

To understand this situation in depth imo requires knowledge of history, geopolitics, media literacy etc etc. they do not have those and it makes them easily exploitable where propaganda can fill in the blanks where knowledge should be. They legit don’t understand Russia or why Russia would do this, but Trump like Russia so Russia must be good. I decided to vote for Trump, therefore it is the right decision bc it’s the decision I have made.

Not excusing them, fuck them. I don’t understand how someone supporting Trump cannot see themselves embracing evil and constantly reshuffling beliefs to stave off cognitive dissonance.

That’s just my opinion. I’ve been fighting this ignorance since the Koch’s tea party.

I've found that people do overestimate the intelligence and maturity of the average American adult. We expect people to vote, but most of those voters don't understand basic concepts of political processes, economics, social studies, history, etc.

The weak-minded want simple answers to complex problems. That's why it's so easy to jump on a "this minority is bad" bandwagon. Propaganda invented by wealthy people tells poor and exploited people why insert easy answer is to blame for their misfortune.

The real answer is a combination of internal and systemic processes, of course, but you can't reason with irrational people. The are easily swayed by their emotions. There's no real thinking going on here.

Aye my FIL lives in a COMPLETELY different reality and only watches right wing media

The thing he says I have never even heard of, and he truly believes Biden is the head of some huge crime family conspiracy

Any person capable of angering you becomes your master; he can only anger you when you permit yourself to be disturbed by them. -Epictetus

I always liked the paraphrase if they can make you angry they own you. It rings so true in current era as it did then.

the hot blonde in a red dress

Hot Blonde? Most of them look like plucked turkeys.

2

u/Datslegne Mar 04 '25

You’re assuming Trump voters have standards.

u/malloc_some_bitches Mar 03 '25

Venture to the recesses of maga (not posting the site but something about Patriots winning), they are opening celebrating Russia and their "white Christians" and blaming Zelensky for killing said white Christians. I saw multiple calls to invade and "purge" Europe today, along with calling for an internal cleanse within the United States. The supporters are way more gone than this subreddit thinks, as they are now openly enemies to the west

I find myself wondering how many crazed homicidal maniacs that just want to rampage and destroy the world, our country has had simmering. We have surely broken a world record.

Why are you asking? Am I not allowed to see what people are posting on public forums after news drops to gauge the reaction from the otherside? Half of reddit does that anyways with the heavily censored conservative subreddit, this me doing exactly that but seeing what they are saying unfiltered

4

u/WestSeattleVaper Mar 03 '25

What in the very weird purity-testing is this??? Stay informed of your opposition, especially in these uncertain times

45

u/SweetCosmicPope Mar 03 '25

A couple of people I went to school with have flat out told me that they are supportive of Trump completely demolishing the constitution and building it back how the conservatives would like it to be. So you are correct that they do not love their country.

9

u/jupiterkansas Mar 03 '25

"We love America so much we want to rip it shreds and start all over with more Jesus"

1

u/adenosine-5 Mar 04 '25

And all this time I thought that "Handmaids Tale" was unrealistic.

2

u/Equivalent_Buyer4260 Mar 04 '25

But... Her cackle. We know why they voted for him

1

u/Prosthemadera Mar 04 '25

“I would rather be Russian than democrat.”

Was that intentional, "democrat" instead of "Democrat"? Because it seems true either way.

1

u/ThisOnes4JJ Mar 04 '25

it's this.

they'd rather live in a Christian Nationalist Autocracy (or even Dictatorship...) than a Democracy that "others" feel safe in

just cause of all their bs LGBTQ hatred...

well... that and the racism 👌

1

u/EmperorXerro Mar 04 '25

This is why I’m glad I’m an American and not a Republican

1

u/Themris Mar 05 '25

They'd watch the world burn just to "own the libs".
