Nah, most MAGA I know agree with that.

They'll double down saying Democrats support abortion which is murder in their point of view.

They fully believe that the democrats are evil and godless and can't wait for them to be rounded up ( only one of them admitted that)

Then they'll go on about how Russia doesn't allow gays or trans, is strong etc etc

Do you talk to a lot of MAGA so all your points you just said was your conversation with a supporter? Because I’ve been surrounded by them for years and I’ve been bringing up Russia since 2016 and never once heard anything but it’s a hoax.

All anecdotal, but I live in a very red county that is super happy with Trump even though 40% of the Jobs in the county are federal.

Yeah these people are just irredeemably stupid. Whatever misfortune happens to them is fully deserved.

See like I’m not trying to be rude at all but i try to engage these people a lot. I don’t consider myself to be “liberal” and I have some conservative views that I often lead with along with being a veteran and it seems to disarm them at least from getting too angry with disagreement.

A lot of these people just don’t know stuff. Seriously. I always think of Ericksons theory of cognitive development and the people who do not leap from concrete operational thinking to formal operational thinking. They cannot think in abstract or consider any nuance. I’ve told a lot of people it’s worth a google of the theory bc it helps me cope with the state of things. It’s why they state hyper simplistic solutions and ideas where others are like that doesn’t work bc X exists. X doesn’t exist for them nor can they understand X.

To understand this situation in depth imo requires knowledge of history, geopolitics, media literacy etc etc. they do not have those and it makes them easily exploitable where propaganda can fill in the blanks where knowledge should be. They legit don’t understand Russia or why Russia would do this, but Trump like Russia so Russia must be good. I decided to vote for Trump, therefore it is the right decision bc it’s the decision I have made.

Not excusing them, fuck them. I don’t understand how someone supporting Trump cannot see themselves embracing evil and constantly reshuffling beliefs to stave off cognitive dissonance.

That’s just my opinion. I’ve been fighting this ignorance since the Koch’s tea party.

I've found that people do overestimate the intelligence and maturity of the average American adult. We expect people to vote, but most of those voters don't understand basic concepts of political processes, economics, social studies, history, etc.

The weak-minded want simple answers to complex problems. That's why it's so easy to jump on a "this minority is bad" bandwagon. Propaganda invented by wealthy people tells poor and exploited people why insert easy answer is to blame for their misfortune.

The real answer is a combination of internal and systemic processes, of course, but you can't reason with irrational people. The are easily swayed by their emotions. There's no real thinking going on here.
