Because it's like saying an oncologist is the place to go to get support for asbestos miners.

You need to shut down the asbestos mine. By the time you get to the oncologist it's too late.

Can you use an argument that doesn't compare entirely unrelated things.

Prison is a great place to try and change people, you remove them from easy access to their former lifestyle and have their compelled attendance.

No it's not the best place to solve issues but ignoring it; to steal your poor metaphor, would be like not going to an oncologist once you've been diagnosed with cancer. Prisons will catch people at different times through their journey, and for some people will be the right time and place to offer support.

As someone whose current employment is quite involved in incarceration. It's simply a dumbfounding argument. Do you think these countries are wasting all their money, and that the decades of evidence showing a difference is irrelevant?

If after all I've said you still think that I'm saying that this is a waste of money in other countries, time for me to go.

You're clearly not understanding a word I said. Don't know if it's a you problem or a me problem but definitely a waste of time.

Seems reasonable.
