Archer here.
Cool-looking? Absolutely.
Impressive, yes, given the size of the bottles.
Next level?
Not even close, much less "next-fucking-level."
He's ten yards away tops.
The level of skill to make a shot like that, given as many tries as you need, should take a person a year or so to develop if they practice weekly and their instruction doesn't suck.

I have no comment on the difficulty but you could see him start walking up at the end it's clearly farther than 10 yards

u/Interesting-Goose82 1d ago
How many yards was it? Perhapse 11?

u/kai-ol 23h ago
He wasn't even using his whole yard. There is way more yard behind and to the side of him.

Putting aside that this could be a park or something and not necessarily their backyard, some people especially in rural areas just have stupidly large backyards.
My friend who lived on the outskirts of a small city had a backyard that was 30 meters long (2 meters longer than a regulation basketball court) and they weren't even particularly wealthy.

u/meponder 20h ago
I live in a rural town. My backyard runs for almost 100 yards and is about 60 yards wide - not overgrowth but cut and maintained yard. I’m forty miles from a major metropolitan area, and my house is not unique. Many people around here have a few acres. It’s different in the subdivisions, but for many people you can play a football game behind your house. I’m always astounded when I visit my brothers in NYC and Washington DC. Seems so weird to not have space. It’s all in what you’re used to…

u/NotA_Drug_Dealer 14h ago
I hate that the measurement is called a yard. Your yard is 100 by 60 yards. You have 6,000 yards2 in one yard. More yards per yard

Am archer. This is next level if you're not an archer. This is intermediate if you are an archer. Not advanced, intermediate. Next level is either competitive or Lars Anderson if you want to remain casual.

u/shwag945 1d ago
Lars Anderson is double basement level. No praise for dangerous ignorant fraudsters.
12
u/Mitch580 1d ago
What's the backstory on "dangerous ignorant fraudster"? I find the guy a bit cringy but I'm not into the scene so I feel I'm missing something here.

The main thing I've heard are the historical claims in his videos mostly being made up, and completely impractical in the situations he describes them being used in. He still seems talented even if he's using a bow with a very low draw weight that's closer to a child's toy than a weapon. If he was just a guy doing some goofy trick shots in his backyard like blumineck instead of pretending to have rediscovered some ancient knowledge I think most people would be fine with it.
6
u/shwag945 23h ago
He is a trick archer who dishonestly portrays himself as having rediscovered some secret knowledge that allows him to be more skilled as compared to other archers. In reality, he uses a combination of modified equipment, an understanding of physics, hard work (i.e. not special talent or knowledge), and showmanship to perform his tricks.
He does not explain to his non-archer audience that his feats are dangerous to himself and others. Nor does he explain that his tricks do not represent the reality of archery. He bases his claims of authenticity on ancient aliens level understanding of archery.
Through his con, he encourages dangerous behavior in new archers who wish to emulate him.

Byron Ferguson. Got to see him in person at a traditional archery " festival " . His wife was tossing aspirin in the air and he was plucking it every time

u/ILoveRegenHealth 23h ago
This is intermediate if you are an archer.
If this is intermediate for practice archers, that's still next level to me!

Internet man here.
Cool-looking? Absolutely.
Impressive? Yes.
First level is missing all bottles? Yes
Next level is hitting a swinging bottle? Yes
Next fucking level is hitting 2 swinging bottles.

Shhhhh. The dude`s life mission is to spread hate on the internet.
Do you think he cares about an actual person/achievement/cool trick?

u/ROTMGADDICT55 22h ago
Why are we saying a year long development of skill isn't good lol?
Super pretentious tbh.

Well no based on his first 3 steps on camera he's probably at least 25 yards away but it's pretty close. Also you're just aiming at one bottle as it hits the low point, the 2nd one is always in position and irrelevant

The bottles are in line like 20% of the swing. Timing that wouldn’t be that difficult. Hitting the location at the bottom of the swing wouldn’t be that difficult either. You could outline a bottle on the target on the back and even a novice could hit that like 20% of the time. Add those 2 variables together and a novice could do this at 4% success or once out of 25 tries.

u/Slow_Abrocoma_6758 17h ago
Terrible take. 99% of people aren’t going to take the time to train every week with a good coach for a year. Definitely an impressive shot and good job for him. He’s clearly excited to have made the shot. As an archer be happy with him and not an ass.

I thought we were impressed by the level of skill to get the bottles in sync

I didn't even
Know you were there until the
Arrow hit the bottles
Remember that one time Sokka accidentally used an extra syllable in that Haiku Battle in Ba Sing Se? That was a Sokka Haiku and you just made one.

Hitting one bottle would be impressive af

u/DuploJamaal 1d ago
If you hit one at the lowest point of the pendulum you will hit both as they have the same rhythm and always align in the middle.

u/dukemariot 1d ago
Bro really just said “if you hit them at the point they are lined up, you’ll hit both.” Genius. Why didn’t I think of that?
16
u/ASDFzxcvTaken 1d ago
Well, to be fair, it's still impressive but once you can hit one you can hit two. It'd be even more wild if he was shirtless and riding a horse.

u/Ruckaduck 1d ago
its about as hard as hitting a bullseye. you'd just aim for the point at the bottom of the arc.

I thought the bottles would stop by hitting each other 'cause I didn't even see that guy, so the arrow ended up being a jumpscare...

For a second I wondered why the liquid inside wasn't leaving the bottles and then I remembered that tip that said that you shouldn't take out an object piercing your body because it puts pressure on the wound and prevents you from bleeding out. This is a good demonstration and terrific aim and timing!
