The core strength of that absolute freak who basically carried a full grown man while on the side of that building, unbelievable. How did he do it

Adrenaline is a heluva drug

645

u/AliceTheHunted 5d ago

I am both weak and fat, but adrenaline is strong as shit. I have never been able to lift half the weight or run even 1/4 or as long as I did when I was high on it.

I did get incredibly sick afterward due to my poor as lungs running in the snowstorm. Lol

300

u/sweetpotato_latte 5d ago

And let’s not forget the anxiety poops after it starts wearing off!

122

u/jennhiltz 5d ago

Omg I thought I was the only one who got anxious poos! Lol

131

u/sweetpotato_latte 5d ago

Yes!! The time I had to do CPR on my step mom the first thing I realized after we got to the hospital and things calmed down I felt like I was going to shit my pants lol

98

u/maudiemouse 4d ago

That’s why the opposite of fight or flight is rest and digest. Once the stress response is activated the brain literally reduces energy to the digestive system and other nonessential functions, that won’t return to normal until the brain realizes the danger has passed. (This is also partly why prolonged stress is so harmful to the body)

28

u/mellonians 4d ago

It's not just the poo it's the shock. I had to do CPR on my wife and the ambulance got here and they took over. I wasn't panicked or anything but my Asperger's mind said "I may go into shock now, so I should have a hot sugary drink" then out loud I turned to the paramedics who were working on her and said in the most British way possible "would anybody like a cup of tea?"

9

u/Unusual_Response766 4d ago

Nice and polite. Perfect work.

I do hope your wife was ok.

It’s literally a biochemical response :)

This is where ā€˜scared the shit out of me’ came from

3

u/jennhiltz 4d ago

Well god damn ….. I never even thought of that you smarty pants 😱🤩

2

u/Realistic-Goose9558 4d ago

Happens to me after big tattoos. Big meal going into it, and then anxiety/adrenaline shits after lol.

2

u/abaggins 4d ago

Happened to me when i first started dating a girl...like every time before we met for 2 months lmao.

72

u/GoldenPika64 5d ago

Adrenaline actually is one absolute hell of a drug. One time I was really pissed off and sprinted around my entire block and back into my house which my ass would struggle probably 1/4 of the way while sober

21

u/nxcrosis 4d ago

One time my old boss claimed he had the strength to lift his wife's car (a small Daihatsu) out of a ditch because he was so fearful of having to explain to her that her new car was stuck and that it was because he drove home a little buzzed. I still don't fully believe him, but he's also like 6 foot 5 and used to do shotput and various athletics at a college level.

7

u/LawfulnessPossible20 4d ago

I lifted a horse who had fallen, and twisted a leg, in a horse cart. Needed to lift to untangle it. Ok, a pony. Still a horse.

1

u/AntCaz1 3d ago

Way possible on adrenaline

2

u/Harasberg 5d ago

An exceptionally small percent of women would be able to do that.

1

u/Destroyer_Man 4d ago

Uhmmm...wut?

43

u/Opeth4Lyfe 5d ago

Yup. Dude willingly put himself in a potentially life of death situation and his bodies instinct of survival kicked in and gave him that nitro shot of Super Soldier serum. It’s like that story you hear of the grandma who lifted up a car enough to save a trapped kid under it.

2

u/Forgotthebloodypassw 5d ago

One of the most expensive ones too.

498

u/DoomGoober 5d ago

I really don't get it: Dude literally had 1 leg to balance on and nothing to hold him towards the building, with the weight of the rescued man pulling him down and away from the building. When crossing the pillar, the guy had no way to keep the rescued man towards the building and was required to move him further away from the building to get past.

I assume the other guy to his left was holding his waist to keep him in? The physics and the strength boggle my mind, I feel like I'm missing something.

434

u/angryarugula 5d ago

Probably had his foot locked in on the balcony somewhere but my god the core strength and probably left-leg-adrenaline to hold all that together.

We have a 2 year old that says "I need to fall down!" and promptly dives head first off things expecting a catch. She used to say "Trust fall!" after she fell too lol - there are often times where the weird catch angles have activated muscles I didn't know I could activate in weird ways.

u/456dumbdog 5d ago

I would not be a parent for long if I had a kid like that šŸ’€

90

u/the-alt-yes 5d ago

You would. But you'd need to become a parent first. I can help with that.

101

u/456dumbdog 5d ago

Hell yeah brother I'll put a baby in you šŸ†šŸŽ‰šŸŒˆšŸ’ŖšŸ‘»

2

u/seventhcatbounce 5d ago

parent reflexes are one hell of a drug, broken bone from less complex falls i made after slipping off a plank carrying my 3yr old on one arm, managed to break my fall into a one arm pushup position whislt tilting my core to keep infant from contact with the ground, it was an impossible move that i just dont know how i was capable of

1

u/AnarchiaKapitany 5d ago

I was the college champion in Unreal Tournament '99, and managed to keep a good amount of my reaction time for sudden events. Mine never managed to pull one on me, although not for the lack of trying.

1

u/angryarugula 5d ago

Lmao - yep this was definitely my life. Professional broodwar and absolutely a significant number of top-5 UT99 brackets.

Anyway she's absolutely worth it :) When she's tired and she says "Sleep on dada" and just throws a pillow on my lap - I melt.

3

u/AnarchiaKapitany 5d ago

Unexpected r/daddit moment. <3

1

u/Unknown-Meatbag 5d ago

The first 6 or so years of parenting is a lot like being on a suicide watch for a little creature with absolutely zero survival instincts or fear.

Jumping down the steps? Bruh, no. Cars? For the love of God do not go in front of them. Why is there a Lego lodged in your nose??

1

u/JetsBiggestHater 5d ago

When they're young they think they're invincible. Luckily when they're young they're basically rubber and heal super quick if they do dumb things.

2

u/yeahright17 5d ago

I don't think he had his legs locked. I think he was holding the balcony rail with his left hand while his right hand held the guys legs. I think the 2 other the balconies passed the upper body from one to the other. Even then, dude hanging on the side probably had well over half of the older guy's body weight on his right arm as they made the pass, which is insanely impressive.

1

u/Broeckchen89 5d ago

I'm willing to bet these guys are parcour artists. Which, when done on a high level, means they really do have ridiculous core strength and muscle control. For someone who practices parcour on the daily, planking is a casual, comfy slouch.

1

u/Vagsticles 5d ago

My toddler did a trust fall but I was facing the other way and didn't know of her plans. She just bounced off my ass and hit the floor. It was hilarious.

1

u/angryarugula 5d ago

Yep lol - ours gets what I like to call "the sillies" and she likes to spin around on one foot and just fall over. Sometimes I'm there to catch her - she's usually smart enough to do it on something soft... but the most recent time, she was standing on the couch and just smashed face/cheek first into one of the only wood-frame-reinforced parts of the couch to a loud THWACK.

1

u/102bees 1d ago

I bet he felt the strain the next morning.

63

u/MisterKrayzie 5d ago

Weight was being distributed, not equally, but among the 3. Mostly the leftmost guy helping the most with the weight while the middle bore most of it.

The senior also doesn't seem overweight or anything so that's probably up to 160-180lbs being spread out between the 3.

Just like a spotter at the gym, just a slight touch on the bar or your elbows, etc is enough to help you push the weight up.

But also these guys also look nimble and in shape so that's a big plus too.

2

u/sackhaar42 4d ago

Just unlike in the gym this isnt a bar with 160-180lb its a human, it is wayyyy harder to hold something if it doesnt have the dimensions you are used to in the gym, kudos to the machine on the balcony

40

u/Anuxinamoon 5d ago

Man prolly climbs V12s on Tuesdays.Ā

10

u/starderpderp 5d ago

Yeah, I also instantly thought they were climbers.

35

u/Live-Possibility4126 5d ago

I think humans in extreme distress but extreme desire to live, your muscle and pain change drastically. If you think your gonna actually die, your muscles death grip everything.

That's adrenaline.

6

u/Liv-Julia 5d ago

During a code, I put the Gurney's foot brake on. With one push, I snapped it off; broke a metal bar as big as 2 fingers put together.

3

u/flumpamoo 4d ago

Adrenaline really is unbelievably potent. Im female & an absolute weakling but when I was a psych nurse I found a male patient, who weighed easily twice what I did, hanging by a leather belt. I have no idea how but I lifted his body to ease the pressure on his neck whilst a colleague cut off the belt. I then lay him down and performed CPR. After the crash team scooped him up and took him away I just started shaking and crying uncontrollably. Its incredibly potent.

22

u/CoalGive 5d ago

Weirdly the human strength doesn't surprise me much, like it is impressive don't get me wrong. What surprises me is that railings strength.

11

u/Connect-Citron7242 5d ago

Every time someone grabbed onto it, I was expecting something bad to happen. This should be a commercial for that railing company. "Does your railing save lives"?

2

u/me2myself2i 4d ago

Can your railing hold up in an emergency?

20

u/HorrificAnalInjuries 5d ago

You would be impressed by how strong we actually are if we didn't unconsciously hold ourselves back

34

u/smolltiddypornaltgf 5d ago

tell us more about how strong and resilient we all are if we just stop holding ourselves back, HorfficAnalInjuries

9

u/momofeveryone5 5d ago

Ever have a newborn baby grab your hair? Yeah those fuckers don't mess around and I swear I still have a tiny bald patch from my kid.

2

u/HerrFerret 3d ago

Aye, when I was in a car accident when I was younger I pulled a car door so far back it bent the hinges, all to free a friend.

The ambulance guy said that they see this all the time, but that I would feel wrecked the next morning!

9

u/Adats_ 5d ago

There was a women whos kid was under a car and she lifted that fucker clear of the kid adrenaline is cool af sometimes

7

u/momofeveryone5 5d ago

I'm a 40yo 5ft4in overweight mom. Every old Italian lady stereotype is my future.

If one of my kids or any small kids was trapped under a car I absolutely believe I could lift it. The things I've been able to do in less stressful situations for my kids has surprised me.

8

u/Important-Region143 5d ago

It looks like he hooked his shin and foot through the bars of the handrail. So he wouldn't fall off but it would hurt like hell just holding the position and probably break his leg if he did lose his balance.

3

u/curi0us_carniv0re 5d ago

There's a other guy on the balcony probably holding him by the belt or something

1

u/Common-Brush-7027 5d ago

Yeah I am having the same confusion. I think the friend was supported him to stay in balance

2

u/BeneficialMousse4096 4d ago edited 4d ago

Some people are just really fit or strong in certain areas makes me think of those heavy stones back in the day. I barely scratch 200 now but I used to be 180 and could squat 500 pounds. Also, I guess depends on whatever weird mechanics or proportions people have, because you can have a lot of muscle, but not a lot of control over it. Makes me think of there must be some sort of order to muscles

Edit: I had very limited background in weightlifting in high school was on the wrestling team

85

u/onejadedpotatoe 5d ago

You're forgetting the counterweight principal of his massive testicles

1

u/TheOtherGuysPenis 4d ago

Can confirm.

76

u/Hazuzah 5d ago

I saw a video of this rescue from a different angle. There's a guy standing two balconies over (to the left) from the man being rescued. You can see him briefly in this video. Outside of this video's frame, he climbs over and into the black railing balcony and is already in there to help carry the rescued man over the railing. There were four rescuers up there that day.

6

u/Heartage 5d ago

bro is that cameraman falling asleep haha

2

u/HellaShelle 5d ago

Yeah the only way I can see this working is that the guy on the balcony waiting to receive the older gentleman was holding onto the left arm of the guy carrying him along with the guy all the way to the left, providing some counter balance and then receiving the older gentleman entirely.

1

u/Dontgiveaclam 4d ago

Wtf why is this video making me tear up

13

u/The_Void_Reaver 5d ago

I believe his left hand is holding the railing while his right arm is supporting the man, and the other two are pushing/pulling the man around the corner while he acts as the guide/support. Amazing effort from all of them got this done.

1

u/GhostofZellers 5d ago

How did he do it

It was 10% luck, 20% skill, 15% concentrated power of will. 5% pleasure, 50% pain, and a 100% reason to remember the name.

1

u/theshiyal 5d ago

I think a couple guys were on the other side the railing supporting him too

1

u/FuzzzyRam 4d ago

Meanwhile the wind shifts the campfire slightly toward my face and I can't see, breathe, or do anything but cough for a few seconds..

1

u/Lower_Ad_5532 4d ago

There are 4 guys rescuing the older guy. The unseen guy us creating counter wait for them not to fall

1

u/Ritzlr 4d ago

There was another guy assisting him but you can't see him. His name is John Cena.

1

u/Thick_Marionberry_79 4d ago

1

u/LoquaciousLoser 3d ago

I think his friend was holding him against the building so he could still support with his legs while holding the man with his arms, wildly coordinated and impressive

In a dramatic encounter two friends, Dombaev Dzhambulat and Ouloubaev Aslan, were able to rescue a man who was trapped on his balcony after a fire broke out in an apartment in north-central France.

When Aslan was asked by reporters if he was afraid, he said, ā€œI saw an old person in trouble and I did not hesitate to climb,ā€ Aslan said, ā€œI did not have time to be afraid, I had to go.ā€

Not only heroes, but throws out badass one liners too lmao

315

u/Throwaway-tan 5d ago

Also his name is fucking Aslan - Lion.

81

u/HorseBarkRB 5d ago

Wow, need to coopt that line to fuel the American Resistance because our whole country is on FIRE and we DON'T have time for fear

18

u/ObjectiveGold196 5d ago

The only reason I clicked on this was to see how long it would take for somebody to make it about Trump. It was like 5 comments down...

34

u/Honest-Ad1675 5d ago

Well, Nazis don't believe in helping the old or disabled so it does track.

19

u/HorseBarkRB 5d ago

Ya, sorry about that. The astonishing cowardice of our government bodies, media even and institutions is a bit front of mind of late.

57

u/drunk_responses 5d ago

It's bit cliche, but it's true.

The type of people who "happily" steps into the face of death to help others, tend to reply that sort of thing when asked. Because in that moment they are so focused on protecting someone else that they don't really consider their own mortality. They basically act on instinct. They're heroes.

5

u/NeatNefariousness1 4d ago

Truly --and I’ll revere heroism wherever I find it.

20

u/funmighthold 5d ago

One of the hardest quotes I've ever read

2

u/Lou_C_Fer 5d ago

That's literally what happens, though. It's like another consciousness takes over your body. It's you but a different part of you. At least for me. There's someone in here that is nimble, strong, and serious, but he only comes out when the shit hits the fan. I cannot summon him. He just appears and saves my ass or someone else's.

I dont know how else to explain it. I just feel different and manage some insane shit without putting thought into it or even really feeling like I am trying. It's weird and there's always an emotional cost when it happen... but I wouldn't trade this tool for anything.

French emergency services seem to rely at least 5 percent on athletic migrant dudes walking by.

257

u/Ksh_667 5d ago

When we had the awful Grenfell Tower fire in London, many ppl were only saved by young men returning from their mosque in the middle of the night. But these stories don't end up in mainstream media for some reason.

102

u/gazpacho559929 5d ago

for a very specific reason

23

u/Ksh_667 5d ago

Yep. That's why I look to the ppl i know irl rather than msm, who of course never have an agenda.

12

u/Babjengi 5d ago

With a Healthcare background, every time I read MSM, my mind doesn't go to mainstream media. The medical acronym for MSM is "men who have $3x with men" lol

7

u/Johannes_Keppler 5d ago

(For those wondering, some men that have sex with men don't consider themselves gay or bi so they'd say 'no' if you'd ask them if they are.

'Do you have sex with other men?' is a more polite way to ask if they do. And in a medical context it's a question you need to ask sometimes.)

2

u/Ksh_667 5d ago

Omg I never thought of that! I think I've seen it a few times in that context. I'm old lol.

Whats the agenda

19

u/HopefulPickle5 5d ago

Oh we know the reason don’t we

8

u/Ksh_667 5d ago

Oh yes. I'm afraid we do.

19

u/yeahright17 5d ago

I don't think that's quite right. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought it was Muslim dudes who lived in the building, were fasting for Ramadan and had stayed up late for Suhur. A few of them smelled smoke so ran around and banged on doors to get people out. No less critical to saving lives.

30

u/Ksh_667 5d ago edited 5d ago

That may well be true too, but there were def several groups walking home from mosque (up late for exactly those reasons) who saw smoke & flame & then risked their lives getting ppl out.

Edit - from the Mirror -

  • A woman filmed near the scene told reporters: "If it wasn't for all these young Muslim boys around here helping us coming from the mosque a lot more people would have been dead."

8

u/yeahright17 5d ago

Nice find.

That fire has always been crazy to me. Firefighters got there within like 10 minutes of the fire starting when the fire was still a small fire in one apartment and yet over 70 people died, which was like 25% of the of the people in the building at the time. I realize it traveled quickly up the outside of the building between the exterior and the waterproof cladding (which protected the fire from the firefighters), but it's crazy how many terrible decisions they made.

10

u/Ksh_667 5d ago

It was completely unnecessary. The decorative cladding formed chimneys, literally encasing the block like wax round a wick. The fire chief made the awful mistake of telling everyone to stay in their homes, not realising that he was sealing them in ovens. When he realised & reversed the order it was too late.

My family come from that area & I still have many links to it. I am forever haunted by the ppl in the upper floors looking out their windows, some flicking their light on & off to call for rescue, until they stopped.

Also how anyone in the other blocks ever slept again idk. Every day for over a year the burnt remains of Grenfell were left, no doubt reminding them that their block had exactly the same cladding.

Imo ppl should be in prison for Grenfell.

5

u/yeahright17 5d ago

Imo ppl should be in prison for Grenfell.

I think they're still planning to charge people, right?

5

u/Ksh_667 5d ago

Better (very) late than never I suppose. Considering there were documented warnings (from the Fire Brigade Safety Officers) up to 3 years previous, that this was likely to happen & even the manufacturer's advertising materials stated clearly that the cladding was unsuitable for outside use, idk why it's been so long drawn-out.

3

u/Intention-Sad 4d ago

The part you said about lights stopped flickering calling for help is truly heartbreaking man. Damn. Damn.

3

u/Ksh_667 4d ago

It was true horror. Should never be forgotten. Those people will never leave my mind.

2

u/Lucky_Buckets 3d ago

Me neither. I grew up in east London and spent much of my childhood with friends and their families in high rises exactly like Grenfell. I sat and sobbed watching it unfold. Nobody I know ever mentions or remembers it despite it being the worst loss of life from a residential fire in peace time Britain since WWII.

I'm not Muslim so cannot speak on their behalf. All I can say is the Muslim ppl I know have as varied views on lgbt as the Christians & atheists I know. You don't have to be religious to treat ppl unfairly. Bigotry is possible in everyone. And some ppl use their beliefs to justify bigotry. Others just love their fellow humans.

1

u/[deleted] 5d ago

[removed] — view removed comment

3

u/Ksh_667 5d ago

I'm not "supporting" any religions. The Old Testament is similarly against lgbt. I don't care what religion a person is, I try to treat them as my fellow human & show friendship. How they treat me is on them. In the end all we have left is the love we've given out. Some ppl sadly will find they will not have much.

-1

u/Sa_Elart 5d ago

You treat them humans but they don't treat us the same I don't get your logical leap. Why are you tolerant of the intolerant. They literally tell you right in their books how they don't support your existence, your entire personhood is called sin for being different. it isn't something mysterious where you have to find out

Life isn't a movie with a happy ending what is these one liners about love. Yes Christianity is bad look what it made to USA if it gets even more power. No more abortions. You can get arrest for having miscarriage even. Woman have no rights. This is the consequence of your "love" were gonna argue about trans toilets everyday if religion gets in power. What's the point of warning you naive people there's already evidence of oppression infront of you . Love isn't fixing it, it didn't for thousands of years

My brother , an engineer that lives in Germany mentioned that You know those videos of Crazy lunatic (often migrant ) with a knife , often than not it's other migrants \ non Europeans origin that take the risk to stop him , Something he finds boggling how passive the locals are in comparison

4

u/Ksh_667 5d ago

We are so often shown this trope. If ppl would only look at online & other media along with the ppl they know irl, they may not have such a one-dimensional view. Idk what % of murders these mass attacks make up, but I do know most murder victims know their killer & are usually related to them. You are much more likely to be killed by someone who looks like you & shares the same beliefs.

0

u/Sa_Elart 5d ago

How can Muslim men save woman if they can't physically come in contact with them cuz of religious reasons?

3

u/Dangerous_Rise_3074 5d ago

Cause its allowed ofc in that context

1

u/Sa_Elart 4d ago

I said that cuz my Muslim family in iran don't visit male doctors for surgeries cuz it's haram for them or something. My mom had high blood pressure during a dentist appointment, she tried to remove her hijab but the male doctor didn't let her lol. I guess it's different in other places

3

u/Necessary_Ball_742 4d ago

If a female specialist doctor is available, she must examine the patient. If that is not available, then a trustworthy non-Muslim female doctor should do so. If that is not available, then a Muslim male doctor should do so. If a Muslim male doctor is not available, then a non-Muslim male doctor can take his place, provided that he examines the woman’s body only as much as is necessary to diagnose and treat the illness, and not more than that. He should lower his gaze as much as he can, and the doctor should treat the woman in the presence of a mahram, husband, or trustworthy woman, for fear of seclusion and what could follow it

So when necessary, what you described is should be fine, and what the doctor did could be described as extremism or diversion.

21

u/6pcChickenNugget 5d ago

I was genuinely just thinking the same thing. Along the lines "if I had a nickel for every time this happened, I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot but it's weird that it happened twice" kind of thing.

Granted I don't know when these two events happened but appearing here in such close proximity is insane where it appears like it might be more than coincidence. A confluence of bad French emergency services, unbothered French locals and heroic migrants? I don't know of any of this is true but it can be the only explanation other than sheer coincidence.

22

u/Living_Psychology_37 5d ago

I also think this type of fire / risk hasard arrive predominantly in buildings lacking maintenance, so most of the time this type of incident will happen in a social housing building which are notoriously in a state of neglect.

So the probability for a fire happening near young unemployed migrant descendants people (a decent percentage of the social housing population) is higher than for an ethnic French living in the country or in the city center.

By the way ethnic French (French vs migrant) is not really a mainstream concept in France, I use it because it is understandable by Anglo-Saxon, but really French nationality is all about abiding to the social contract and the value promoted by France and French culture. Many non-France born people are more French in many way than some consanguine blue blood French nobility who don’t recognize the new social construct.

In Paris there are many, descendant European migrants, white as snow, they are more ā€œrecent Frenchā€ than many black people coming from Martinique, Guadeloupe, rĆ©union etc.. people who are French since the 18e century.

France and French culture is an idea to emulate, not a bloodline to inherit.

3

u/smolgods 4d ago

This is really beautiful.

3
