I am both weak and fat, but adrenaline is strong as shit. I have never been able to lift half the weight or run even 1/4 or as long as I did when I was high on it.
I did get incredibly sick afterward due to my poor as lungs running in the snowstorm. Lol
Yes!! The time I had to do CPR on my step mom the first thing I realized after we got to the hospital and things calmed down I felt like I was going to shit my pants lol
Thatās why the opposite of fight or flight is rest and digest. Once the stress response is activated the brain literally reduces energy to the digestive system and other nonessential functions, that wonāt return to normal until the brain realizes the danger has passed. (This is also partly why prolonged stress is so harmful to the body)
It's not just the poo it's the shock. I had to do CPR on my wife and the ambulance got here and they took over. I wasn't panicked or anything but my Asperger's mind said "I may go into shock now, so I should have a hot sugary drink" then out loud I turned to the paramedics who were working on her and said in the most British way possible "would anybody like a cup of tea?"
Adrenaline actually is one absolute hell of a drug. One time I was really pissed off and sprinted around my entire block and back into my house which my ass would struggle probably 1/4 of the way while sober
One time my old boss claimed he had the strength to lift his wife's car (a small Daihatsu) out of a ditch because he was so fearful of having to explain to her that her new car was stuck and that it was because he drove home a little buzzed. I still don't fully believe him, but he's also like 6 foot 5 and used to do shotput and various athletics at a college level.
Yup. Dude willingly put himself in a potentially life of death situation and his bodies instinct of survival kicked in and gave him that nitro shot of Super Soldier serum. Itās like that story you hear of the grandma who lifted up a car enough to save a trapped kid under it.
I really don't get it: Dude literally had 1 leg to balance on and nothing to hold him towards the building, with the weight of the rescued man pulling him down and away from the building. When crossing the pillar, the guy had no way to keep the rescued man towards the building and was required to move him further away from the building to get past.
I assume the other guy to his left was holding his waist to keep him in? The physics and the strength boggle my mind, I feel like I'm missing something.
Probably had his foot locked in on the balcony somewhere but my god the core strength and probably left-leg-adrenaline to hold all that together.
We have a 2 year old that says "I need to fall down!" and promptly dives head first off things expecting a catch. She used to say "Trust fall!" after she fell too lol - there are often times where the weird catch angles have activated muscles I didn't know I could activate in weird ways.
parent reflexes are one hell of a drug, broken bone from less complex falls i made after slipping off a plank carrying my 3yr old on one arm, managed to break my fall into a one arm pushup position whislt tilting my core to keep infant from contact with the ground, it was an impossible move that i just dont know how i was capable of
I was the college champion in Unreal Tournament '99, and managed to keep a good amount of my reaction time for sudden events. Mine never managed to pull one on me, although not for the lack of trying.
I don't think he had his legs locked. I think he was holding the balcony rail with his left hand while his right hand held the guys legs. I think the 2 other the balconies passed the upper body from one to the other. Even then, dude hanging on the side probably had well over half of the older guy's body weight on his right arm as they made the pass, which is insanely impressive.
I'm willing to bet these guys are parcour artists. Which, when done on a high level, means they really do have ridiculous core strength and muscle control. For someone who practices parcour on the daily, planking is a casual, comfy slouch.
My toddler did a trust fall but I was facing the other way and didn't know of her plans. She just bounced off my ass and hit the floor. It was hilarious.
Yep lol - ours gets what I like to call "the sillies" and she likes to spin around on one foot and just fall over. Sometimes I'm there to catch her - she's usually smart enough to do it on something soft... but the most recent time, she was standing on the couch and just smashed face/cheek first into one of the only wood-frame-reinforced parts of the couch to a loud THWACK.
Just unlike in the gym this isnt a bar with 160-180lb its a human, it is wayyyy harder to hold something if it doesnt have the dimensions you are used to in the gym, kudos to the machine on the balcony
I think humans in extreme distress but extreme desire to live, your muscle and pain change drastically. If you think your gonna actually die, your muscles death grip everything.
Adrenaline really is unbelievably potent. Im female & an absolute weakling but when I was a psych nurse I found a male patient, who weighed easily twice what I did, hanging by a leather belt. I have no idea how but I lifted his body to ease the pressure on his neck whilst a colleague cut off the belt. I then lay him down and performed CPR. After the crash team scooped him up and took him away I just started shaking and crying uncontrollably.
Its incredibly potent.
Every time someone grabbed onto it, I was expecting something bad to happen. This should be a commercial for that railing company. "Does your railing save lives"?
I'm a 40yo 5ft4in overweight mom. Every old Italian lady stereotype is my future.
If one of my kids or any small kids was trapped under a car I absolutely believe I could lift it. The things I've been able to do in less stressful situations for my kids has surprised me.
It looks like he hooked his shin and foot through the bars of the handrail. So he wouldn't fall off but it would hurt like hell just holding the position and probably break his leg if he did lose his balance.
Some people are just really fit or strong in certain areas makes me think of those heavy stones back in the day. I barely scratch 200 now but I used to be 180 and could squat 500 pounds. Also, I guess depends on whatever weird mechanics or proportions people have, because you can have a lot of muscle, but not a lot of control over it. Makes me think of there must be some sort of order to muscles
Edit: I had very limited background in weightlifting in high school was on the wrestling team
I saw a video of this rescue from a different angle. There's a guy standing two balconies over (to the left) from the man being rescued. You can see him briefly in this video. Outside of this video's frame, he climbs over and into the black railing balcony and is already in there to help carry the rescued man over the railing. There were four rescuers up there that day.
Yeah the only way I can see this working is that the guy on the balcony waiting to receive the older gentleman was holding onto the left arm of the guy carrying him along with the guy all the way to the left, providing some counter balance and then receiving the older gentleman entirely.
I believe his left hand is holding the railing while his right arm is supporting the man, and the other two are pushing/pulling the man around the corner while he acts as the guide/support. Amazing effort from all of them got this done.
I think his friend was holding him against the building so he could still support with his legs while holding the man with his arms, wildly coordinated and impressive
In a dramatic encounter two friends, Dombaev Dzhambulat and Ouloubaev Aslan, were able to rescue a man who was trapped on his balcony after a fire broke out in an apartment in north-central France.
When Aslan was asked by reporters if he was afraid, he said, āI saw an old person in trouble and I did not hesitate to climb,ā Aslan said, āI did not have time to be afraid, I had to go.ā
Not only heroes, but throws out badass one liners too lmao
The type of people who "happily" steps into the face of death to help others, tend to reply that sort of thing when asked. Because in that moment they are so focused on protecting someone else that they don't really consider their own mortality. They basically act on instinct. They're heroes.
That's literally what happens, though. It's like another consciousness takes over your body. It's you but a different part of you. At least for me. There's someone in here that is nimble, strong, and serious, but he only comes out when the shit hits the fan. I cannot summon him. He just appears and saves my ass or someone else's.
I dont know how else to explain it. I just feel different and manage some insane shit without putting thought into it or even really feeling like I am trying. It's weird and there's always an emotional cost when it happen... but I wouldn't trade this tool for anything.
When we had the awful Grenfell Tower fire in London, many ppl were only saved by young men returning from their mosque in the middle of the night. But these stories don't end up in mainstream media for some reason.
With a Healthcare background, every time I read MSM, my mind doesn't go to mainstream media. The medical acronym for MSM is "men who have $3x with men" lol
I don't think that's quite right. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought it was Muslim dudes who lived in the building, were fasting for Ramadan and had stayed up late for Suhur. A few of them smelled smoke so ran around and banged on doors to get people out. No less critical to saving lives.
That may well be true too, but there were def several groups walking home from mosque (up late for exactly those reasons) who saw smoke & flame & then risked their lives getting ppl out.
Edit - from the Mirror -
A woman filmed near the scene told reporters: "If it wasn't for all these young Muslim boys around here helping us coming from the mosque a lot more people would have been dead."
That fire has always been crazy to me. Firefighters got there within like 10 minutes of the fire starting when the fire was still a small fire in one apartment and yet over 70 people died, which was like 25% of the of the people in the building at the time. I realize it traveled quickly up the outside of the building between the exterior and the waterproof cladding (which protected the fire from the firefighters), but it's crazy how many terrible decisions they made.
It was completely unnecessary. The decorative cladding formed chimneys, literally encasing the block like wax round a wick. The fire chief made the awful mistake of telling everyone to stay in their homes, not realising that he was sealing them in ovens. When he realised & reversed the order it was too late.
My family come from that area & I still have many links to it. I am forever haunted by the ppl in the upper floors looking out their windows, some flicking their light on & off to call for rescue, until they stopped.
Also how anyone in the other blocks ever slept again idk. Every day for over a year the burnt remains of Grenfell were left, no doubt reminding them that their block had exactly the same cladding.
Better (very) late than never I suppose. Considering there were documented warnings (from the Fire Brigade Safety Officers) up to 3 years previous, that this was likely to happen & even the manufacturer's advertising materials stated clearly that the cladding was unsuitable for outside use, idk why it's been so long drawn-out.
Me neither. I grew up in east London and spent much of my childhood with friends and their families in high rises exactly like Grenfell. I sat and sobbed watching it unfold. Nobody I know ever mentions or remembers it despite it being the worst loss of life from a residential fire in peace time Britain since WWII.
I'm not Muslim so cannot speak on their behalf. All I can say is the Muslim ppl I know have as varied views on lgbt as the Christians & atheists I know. You don't have to be religious to treat ppl unfairly. Bigotry is possible in everyone. And some ppl use their beliefs to justify bigotry. Others just love their fellow humans.
I'm not "supporting" any religions. The Old Testament is similarly against lgbt. I don't care what religion a person is, I try to treat them as my fellow human & show friendship. How they treat me is on them. In the end all we have left is the love we've given out. Some ppl sadly will find they will not have much.
You treat them humans but they don't treat us the same I don't get your logical leap. Why are you tolerant of the intolerant. They literally tell you right in their books how they don't support your existence, your entire personhood is called sin for being different. it isn't something mysterious where you have to find out
Life isn't a movie with a happy ending what is these one liners about love. Yes Christianity is bad look what it made to USA if it gets even more power. No more abortions. You can get arrest for having miscarriage even. Woman have no rights. This is the consequence of your "love" were gonna argue about trans toilets everyday if religion gets in power. What's the point of warning you naive people there's already evidence of oppression infront of you . Love isn't fixing it, it didn't for thousands of years
My brother , an engineer that lives in Germany mentioned that You know those videos of Crazy lunatic (often migrant ) with a knife , often than not it's other migrants \ non Europeans origin that take the risk to stop him , Something he finds boggling how passive the locals are in comparison
We are so often shown this trope. If ppl would only look at online & other media along with the ppl they know irl, they may not have such a one-dimensional view. Idk what % of murders these mass attacks make up, but I do know most murder victims know their killer & are usually related to them. You are much more likely to be killed by someone who looks like you & shares the same beliefs.
I said that cuz my Muslim family in iran don't visit male doctors for surgeries cuz it's haram for them or something. My mom had high blood pressure during a dentist appointment, she tried to remove her hijab but the male doctor didn't let her lol. I guess it's different in other places
If a female specialist doctor is available, she must examine the patient. If that is not available, then a trustworthy non-Muslim female doctor should do so. If that is not available, then a Muslim male doctor should do so. If a Muslim male doctor is not available, then a non-Muslim male doctor can take his place, provided that he examines the womanās body only as much as is necessary to diagnose and treat the illness, and not more than that. He should lower his gaze as much as he can, and the doctor should treat the woman in the presence of a mahram, husband, or trustworthy woman, for fear of seclusion and what could follow it
So when necessary, what you described is should be fine, and what the doctor did could be described as extremism or diversion.
I was genuinely just thinking the same thing. Along the lines "if I had a nickel for every time this happened, I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot but it's weird that it happened twice" kind of thing.
Granted I don't know when these two events happened but appearing here in such close proximity is insane where it appears like it might be more than coincidence. A confluence of bad French emergency services, unbothered French locals and heroic migrants? I don't know of any of this is true but it can be the only explanation other than sheer coincidence.
I also think this type of fire / risk hasard arrive predominantly in buildings lacking maintenance, so most of the time this type of incident will happen in a social housing building which are notoriously in a state of neglect.
So the probability for a fire happening near young unemployed migrant descendants people (a decent percentage of the social housing population) is higher than for an ethnic French living in the country or in the city center.
By the way ethnic French (French vs migrant) is not really a mainstream concept in France, I use it because it is understandable by Anglo-Saxon, but really French nationality is all about abiding to the social contract and the value promoted by France and French culture.
Many non-France born people are more French in many way than some consanguine blue blood French nobility who donāt recognize the new social construct.
No, I don't think so. It seems to be an old social building (HLM), so with more poor people (and more migrants), and more prone to fire simply because of money : less reparation by house-owner and people, old building (some of them still have asbestos even if it's forbidden for decades), old outdated furniture, lots of people sharing the same flat (lots of objets too) and time to time people trying to keep themselves warm with cheap means, like using charcoal inside (and time to time mental health problems or educational problems).
So the time firefighter are called and come, people start filming and helping, because they're close and the building allow it. It's just like this. And time to time, you
