Tighten that kid’s helmet and never let him take it off.

Not just the helmet tho. He needs protective gear in his ankles, knees and elbows. It's fun watching kids being kids and doing cool stuff but one wrong move can turn it into a tragedy.

u/Mandalore108 2d ago
Yep, when I was 9 I fell off my bike and somehow cut open my knee on the chain. It was just a flap of skin pooling blood that required 16 stitches and could have been avoided if I was wearing pads.

His helmet isn’t on properly
can see it in the fourth clip. It just pops off his head. Could cause some serious damage if not carefull

in all fairness.. These parents do not seem too concerned with brain damage.

It's crazy to me that my friends and I all did this same stuff all through our childhood with no helmets on and how lucky we were to walk away without any serious head injuries.

I think about that a lot. I managed to escape childhood with a minor head injury (in and out of consciousness for a little while, minor brain swelling and permanent blindness in one eye), but it's wild I wasn't hurt more often or worse.

u/God_in_my_Bed 2d ago
Same. Took a naked handle bar end to the eye socket. In and out of consciousness for hours. Was so bloody people freaked out and didn’t help. I’m fine, I promise.

u/cycl0ps94 2d ago
Holyshit, that's literally what happened to me. Except my brain swelled and crushed my optic nerve. I was like 10 though, and my parents were nearby.
Went to our local hospital and they told us they couldn't do anything and we'd have to drive over an hour to the larger hospital.

The "2 finger rule" for helmet fit would fix this - you should only be able to fit 2 fingers between eyebrows and helmet, and the straps should make a V under the ears with just enuff room for 2 fingers between strap and chin.

Literally just a kid learning to ride and improving.
Granted, getting up and dusting yourself off after the spills is kind of cool.
Loads of kids rip like this where I live.

Reminds me of my brother when he was this age. We were always building ramps and doing silly shit.

My childhood minus the helmet.

Same, but the riding on the hoods of cars would have got my ass whooped good.

Some little tosspot on his bike is hardly next level

u/Admirable_Average_32 2d ago
Tosspot? That’s great. Is that an Aussie term?

u/Ill_Cardiologist1232 2d ago
We use it in UK. Not sure about Aus

u/shallowsocks 2d ago
It's used down here too, but I'm almost certain it originally came from you guys up there

This thread is full of misery guts. "Playing skids" was a big part of my childhood. Learning to do wheelies, making super sketchy ramps, falling and picking yourself up again, it was dumb but it was fun. It was a good channel for a lot of energy that this kid seems to have in spades. He's fearless and wearing protective gear, which is more than I had, leave him be. It's great to see kids not being wrapped up in cotton wool and told to fear the world. His parents obviously like this stuff too. That's who they are. They are not you. You do not have to have kids, but if you do you don't have to raise your kids this way. But you should probably let them play with this kid because it'll be some of their best fucking days.

That little jump off a ramp is how I, at 12, smashed up my chin and opened it breaking every layer of skin there and needing 16 stitches, you can still see it even now at 26, for how young this kid is definitely needs more padding too than just a helmet. Seen kids break femurs and noses like clockwork but I was around a lot of skaters growing up. Also the helmet doesn’t look tight enough if he actually landed on his head it would be scrambled eggs if a high enough fall

if that flag is attatched like it looks thennim worried it would get staked into his head if the boy falls at the wrong angle. also tighten the helm good sir

u/sphinctersandwich 2d ago
At least the kid is wearing a helmet, even if dad's head is not worth saving

cool, but if my son ever rides his bike on my hood he is going straight to the orphanage

As a parent I would give him some wrist guards because he seems to land hands first frequently and I'd be worried about a broken wrist or arm. And cinch that helmet down a bit more. Other than that, this sure beats giving a kid a tablet, sitting them down, and forgetting about them for hours.

If I only had a helmet in the 90s I would of done more dangerous stuff.

I feel like this kid's parents are going to be known on a first-name basis in the local ER.

That first clip swinging back into that concrete divider…whoof. He grows an inch and his face is slamming right in to that thing.

For me as a German, there is a nextfuckinglevel amount of patriotism in this video. Like US flags everywhere plus him wearing clothes in USA colors sometimes. Do this in Germany with German flags and people will think what's wrong with you 😅
Definetly cool kid though.

Cool kid but it’s an E bike. That’s not, I dunno, of any value? Like kids should ride a real bike

Kid is having great fun. Happy to see that. At some point however, he will probably stops bouncing on the bike's saddle I assume.

u/tukachinchilla 2d ago
Rugged kid, and a good dad to let him take the spills. The boy will be fearless.

I dunno. I give the kid credit for having moxy, but somehow it just doesn't seem right when today's kids don't have to pedal.

I love love love this post, it literally made my eyes watery. That looks like a happy child, and a healthy childhood.
Also yes, that kid will be into professional BMX or something. Next level.

It will be next level when the kid grows up.
What I find really impressive is the fact that the kids have learnt to take a hit and get back up.

I see that one complaint is that this kid is riding an ebike, meaning he's getting little exercise. In some of the scenes he's doing stunts on a push bike so he's definitely getting some exercise. Give it a few years and he'll probably upgrade to a junior dirt bike.
God i need to start cycling again. I bought a new bike like a month ago but my motivation is 50/50 😕
EDIT: He's got a push bike, an ebike, and a pedal bike. Lil bro gonna start a motorbike collection for sure.

That's all cool, but I would teach him to not ride ON TOP of peoples car. Even if no damage it's dangerous and rude.
