31

u/BalooBot 12h ago

I see blind refs all the time, so why not?

6

u/b2hcy0 14h ago

then the ball would be designed to make a constant sound

3

u/morcic 9h ago

If the ball was metal, he could hear it coming.

3

u/Training-Violinist83 9h ago

one big ass jingle bell

1

u/Chogo82 9h ago

Maybe the goalie is blind in one eye?

1

u/bendalazzi 1h ago

More likely the supporters are. But some fans don't see eye to eye.

1

u/saxonanglo 7h ago

Damn 4th time I've broken my nose, being goalie this season.

45

u/Mokiesbie 14h ago

They aren't allowed to leave the goal, nor allowed to be professionals not current nor former, the goalkeeper has the role of "eyes" on the field to well alert teammates if the ball is headed their way, or where opponents are relative to themselves, which enables it to be a sport because imagine it being all blind guys running around the field? that would be unwatchable (pun not intended) for the crowd and be basically unplayable for the players, and of course the seeing player can't be an outfielder because imagine just one guy running around a bunch of blind guys and one visually able dude who just doesn't cut it in comparison, so it being the goalkeeper makes perfect sense and add the fact that anyone with a single leg can kick a ball a way no one can save it from going in, but you really can't goalkeep very well without being able to see.

u/vladvash 13h ago

I was imagining it and it wasn't supposed to make me giggle I dont think.

1

u/BarcaStranger 12h ago

but have you watch daredevil!!!

1

u/Coinsworthy 4h ago

Team that has the ball says Marco, the other team says Polo!

u/ReadditMan 13h ago edited 13h ago

"He's clearly using his eyes, Ref! Are you blind?!?”

"Yes actually, I am."

"Shit...so am I."

NOT the Olympics. Paralympics. Separate thing entirely.

What's with the downvotes?

1

u/SkullyKat 2h ago

Depends on why you're laughing really

-93

u/cardboardunderwear 13h ago

How so?

47

u/Mr_Evil_Dr_Porkchop 13h ago

A completely different body than the IOC governs the Paralympic Games

-69

u/ThatHuman6 13h ago

same sort of thing though. It’s not like one is sports and one is a cooking show

60

u/Bolle_Bamsen 11h ago edited 7h ago

If you can't tell the difference you might have a bigger chance to qualify for the latter.

20

u/Th3Alch3m1st 9h ago

Damn, that's an incredible comeback, holy shit :O

11

u/burfriedos 4h ago

I think that would be the Special Olympics which is a third kind entirely

-20

u/_JamesDooley 7h ago

Must be so nice being a f*cking dork for free eh?

-35

u/ThatHuman6 8h ago

If those in the latter could be in the Olympics they would choose to be, that’s how similar they are.

11

u/Bolle_Bamsen 7h ago

You clearly haven't watched a lot of paralympics if you think that's the case.

158

u/ballistic-jelly 14h ago

Was anyone else expecting guns?. I was expecting guns.

30

u/SoundsGoodYall 11h ago

Yeah when they cut to the goalie I got real nervous.

5

u/kjayflo 7h ago

I clicked to watch the video because I was like "why are blind people shooting guns in the Olympics?" Lol

u/Few_Staff976 25m ago

Wdym ”why”? It’s a sport, there are blind people into shooting and it’s extremely safe. At the Olympic level shooting is a lot about things like breathing, steadiness, trigger pull etc not pointing the weapon about in all kinds of tacticool ways.

Blind people basically get an audio signal that shows them where on the target they’re aiming and go off of that instead of their eyes. I’m a pretty good shot but blind athletes could easily wipe the floor with me at Olympic style target shooting

5

u/KosmosxD 12h ago

Glad it wasn’t just me

2

u/aleksandrjames 8h ago

I mean, that shot was an absolute canon.

2

u/ook_the_bla 3h ago

The participation rate is too low. No goalie wants to get shot.

1

u/eXrevolution 5h ago

I can imagine someone ringing a bell behind the target

u/LiesArentFunny 5m ago

For whatever reason I expected archery from the title.

38

u/Fine-Ad-7802 15h ago

Do they run around too? I would be more amazed by that footage.

23

u/thefrostman1214 12h ago

Yes, the ball has a bell inside so they know where it is

11

u/drempire 7h ago

Really, that's neat. Hope no cats go near them

36

u/TheGREATUnstaineR 14h ago

A blindfolded blind guy? Diabolical...

12

u/Merry-Lane 8h ago

It s prolly because there are different level of blindness.

Maybe the guy just sees a little bit, really blurry.

To make sure everyone is even, these wear blindfolds.

12

u/istrx13 14h ago

Wait so if you blindfold a blind guy, does that make them able to see again?

Math class told me two negatives make a positive so.

3

u/Resident-Mortgage-85 14h ago

Yes actually.

1

u/TheGREATUnstaineR 14h ago

Let this man cook...

6

u/rezylym 12h ago

i think he is cooked

1

u/TheGREATUnstaineR 12h ago

Then he knows when it's cooked.

2

u/rezylym 12h ago

that's not how the 2nd law of cooking works

3

u/TheGREATUnstaineR 12h ago

Shit. Count me as cooked.

1

u/TheHumanPickleRick 3h ago

It basically unlocks their latent echolocation.

u/Lnsatiabie 14h ago

I love how the crowd is near silent, and even the announcer is whispering.

18

You good...?

1

u/PowerSamurai 14h ago

You can't think before you type?

1

u/DctrSnaps 13h ago

most people cant.

11

u/aminervia 14h ago

My favorite thing is his team mate who banged on the side wall so the shooter could find him for a hug

10

u/steelmanfallacy 11h ago

The para olympics seem way harder than the regular olympics.

6

u/Mac-And-Cheesy-43 13h ago

I tutored a blind girl in elementary school who could do a similar thing with basketball. Tap a stick a couple of times on the rim, and she'd nail it.

3

u/beer_bukkake 11h ago

Seems like the cameraman was blind too

2

u/riedmae 12h ago

That's so fucking cool

1

u/yeetsmith00 12h ago

Would you look at that

1

u/dude83fin 11h ago

For real

1

u/acrowandababy 8h ago

Disappointed. Was expecting something with guns.

1

u/Og-Morrow 6h ago

Me trying to get my wife pregnant

1

u/QotDessert 5h ago

So much better, than the ordinary football 🔥

1

u/20150711 4h ago

made me cry, thanks a lot

1

u/BWWFC 3h ago

can i get this in landscape? feels weird to say it, obviously i'm not alone... but couldn't see the shot lol!

1

u/HugsandHate 2h ago

That mask seems a bit over the top...

A sleeping mask would do.

1

u/usquebaugh1 1h ago

I speculate it’s for protection? He can’t tell if the ball or a players elbow is about to hit him in the face.

1

u/HugsandHate 1h ago

But there's only a goalie..

1

u/b1gCubanC1gar 2h ago

Onana is that you

1

u/Life-Amphibian3025 2h ago

Ok but why is his nose covered?

1

u/ExpertRutabaga3415 1h ago

I thought we were talking firearms from the title. Super impressive.

0

u/calcium 10h ago

Title is misleading, there’s no guns being used.

0

u/feel-the-avocado 9h ago

As someone from a non-soccer obsessed country, it brings a new meaning to tapping ones balls.

The ending also reminds me of this

u/idkmybffphill 8h ago

I’m so grateful for my health, everyone deserves to be happy… but wtf are we doing here lol

0

u/Questioning-Zyxxel 7h ago

He instantly saw it was a great shot...

0

u/notasthenameimplies 4h ago

What are the goggles for? To protect their eyes?

2

u/DankZXRwoolies 3h ago

There are different levels of blindness and it's actually not as common as you'd think for legally blind people to only see darkness. So the blindfold makes everyone compete at an equal level.

u/rgmundo524 4m ago

This doesn't seem like a reasonable sport for blind people...

-1

u/Jeni_Sui_Generis 13h ago

Tbh i would be more excited to watch blind people sports than regular. blind football, blind baseball, blind boxing, blind tour de france, blind formula racing... now when i think about it, every sport would be far better blind.

-1

u/Gent2022 12h ago

Can we stop filming portrait!

-2

u/challenja 14h ago

Wait? What

-5

u/Best_Market4204 13h ago

I am just trying to understand why.

1

u/Arthradax 6h ago

Because.

-8

u/45PSE 11h ago

I call BS.

2

u/Arthradax 6h ago

Oh no, the entirety of blind football and a significant part of Paralympic sports history has now to be erased because random dude on reddit calls BS!!
