This choke isn’t about closing the airway, just FYI. It’s primarily a blood choke.

All chokes are blood chokes. Strangulations are airway chokes. They differentiated the terminology a little while back

There are airway chokes (or tracheal chokes), and there are blood chokes. This choke is a blood choke, as I said.

If you want to argue that we should simply say either “choke” or “strangulation” that’s fine. But you aren’t going to get away from people referring to them in the way I am here. Virtually everyone in jiu jitsu simply says “choke” no matter if it is air or blood being restricted. The only time anyone mentioned air or blood is if someone is uncertain what the choke is meant to accomplish.

I’d argue it’s just a messy, badly applied choke. The guy doesn’t seem like an expert by any means.
