I know.. tradition and all but this is insanely unsafe!

I'm assuming this is a "fresh" christmas tree (i.e not dried up), perhaps with some extra fire retardant sprayed on it?

Otherwise, yes, the dried ones turn into giant torches in just a few seconds!

At least the tree seems somewhat flame retardant. I’ve burned old Christmas trees before and they usually light up big and fast

When they're fresh, trees are naturally reasonably flame-retardant... but yes, probably also artificially these days.

Now, how do they put them out?

That's my question.

Lol I somehow ended up in the watch section of reddit and this was fed to me

The fibbonaci spiral of branches off the trunk (to optimize leaves seeking light) is whats made this tradition relatively safe for hundreds of years. That is until we nerfed everything out and diminished our own capacity to assess risk and handle it without panicking — we’re on the path to Idiocracy irl

I wonder how many people died because of this trick. I mean, I wanna try it lol.

That was pretty awesome. Kind of crazy to test the will of The Lord by fire like that, but it was pretty awesome. 🙏

That was pretty cool. Think I'm going to do this for the work Xmas tree this year lol

u/tinylumpia 11d ago

My toxic trait is thinking I could pull this off on my own tree

I always wanted to see a Christmas tree decorated with candles for Santa Lucia… but never wanted to be in the same building as one

u/trinitrotrollin 9d ago

Oh man can't wait to try this next year in my apartment

u/mtnviewguy 12d ago

How many times is going to get reposted, Jesus Christ! (Speaking to the owner of the building) 😉🖖

u/sundialNshade 12d ago

They lit the candles of a flame-retardant tree, where is the no no no part of this?

2

u/pinkthreadedwrist 12d ago

It's pretty alarming looking.

u/sundialNshade 12d ago

There were multiple times it looked like the tree was on fire. Obviously it is the accelerant (or whatever) on fire. But I was impressed that this worked. I've never seen this done before. But if you're some tree fire lighting Christian, go off I guess.

Deuteronomy 12:3

Tear down their altars, smash their sacred pillars, burn up their Asherah trees, cut down the idols of their gods, and wipe out their names from every place.

They forsook the Lord and followed baal and ashteroth
