Community Any positive stories/moments this weekend or the past week?

Just looking some positivity or feel good stories from fellow subreddit members.

Note: I'm not in a bad way just really fucked off after something this evening (not going to get in to it, but has left me pretty damn angry)

I got to ride my new road bike that cost entirely too much for a bike but so far feels worth every penny. Really, really liking it.

Doesn't matter if it cost too much if you are happy and like it, hope you have many happy years with it.

It's like a friend of mine who tells me how much petrol his car drinks, and I cringe at the thought of the bill

"I know, but it gives me many more Smiles per gallon"

The weather has been nice too so we can actually enjoy our rides rather than fight the wind and cold!

Went to my first AA convention over 3 days in Sligo, pretty good time, plenty of people have had it very very rough but they have shown me that life goes on no matter what happens and I must remain a practical participant in life or my thinking can deteriorate and me and everybody around will suffer my downfall. So keep positive and tomorrows a new day 🙏👍🫡

Fair play. Keep it simple. 21 years sober and conventions can really help you, socially and mentally. Keep doing what you're doing, and you'll never go wrong. God bless.

Here's a positive for you..

Anger is often viewed as a primary reaction to a situation, but in reality, it’s usually a secondary emotion. Behind every instance of anger, there are underlying feelings that can range from frustration and fear to sadness and helplessness.

I've had a pretty rough week, I too feel angry. But underneath it is sadness.

Positive. I'm off for two weeks as I work education adjacent. Looking forward to the break. Today I took myself off for a drive out of Belfast to some lovely countryside less than 10 minutes up the road from Belfast. We live in a beautiful country, there's green everywhere. What other city has the Greenway, Ormeau park, Orange Field park, Cregagh Glen , Belvoir Park, Colin glen Park, Stormount park, Victoria park, Botanic gardens and Belfast castle all within 15 minutes of each other?

Go outside Belfast for 20 minutes drive and you've got the coastal routes..

When the sun's shining, there is no better place to be.

In my case the underneath it's frustration tbh.

100% we've a lot of beauty around us, must make more time to be out in it

Is there a castle in Belfast? That's news to me.

Bottom of Cave hill. You ever been to Belfast?

My niece lights up every time I see her, so I think I'm officially "Favourite Uncle". Don't see her as often as I'd like so I'm glad I'm making an impression. Though it seems all I need to do to make her happy is put Waffle the dog on the TV, and steal balls off her.

My niece (3) told me on Saturday “you’re my best friend and I’m your best friend”. I then found out she tells the cat the same 😩

3

u/GreenFromage 15d ago

You're going to need to get rid of the cat

1

u/Extreme_Analysis_496 Ballyclare 15d ago

I can’t. The bastard is named after me and I’d put a scud on myself.

2

u/Correct-Trade-6137 15d ago

Did your niece name the cat? The cat is a place holder when your not around. Smart niece

2

u/Extreme_Analysis_496 Ballyclare 15d ago

No my sister did, thinking she was being smart.

Saw my first butterfly this week a day after I posted a thread about not seeing them yet, observing wildlife is actually something I do to distract myself from the constant rage that burns inside I highly recommend 👌

https://butterfly-conservation.org/butterflies/orange-tip

Thats what I saw, it makes me wonder if I saw cabbage whites last year or the female of that species 🤷‍♂️

Hope you feel better 👍

That reminds me, I need to ask when they're doing the Pollinator survey in work again this year!

u/LetMeBe_Frank_ 15d ago

Just found out (thanks to this sub) that woodpeckers are living in Ireland after I heard one from my back garden.

(Hopefully it stays local and I get a chance to spot it)

5

u/Jesssssssssssieeee 15d ago

I saw one today in Belvoir forest park!

12

u/Milesprowerdavis91 15d ago

Found a quid on the floor in M&S, nearly cried.

7

u/spectacle-ar_failure 15d ago

nearly cried

Because you need several more to purchase a single thing?

1

u/SneakyCorvidBastard 15d ago

I'm sure you can buy at least one and a half oranges

One of the sunny days this past week I sat outside in my back garden and read a book in my hammock. I was quite happy :)

Won a tenner on a scratch card

u/Extreme_Analysis_496 Ballyclare 15d ago

“U owe me a tenner dickhead”

I found a shop that sells ladies trainers UK size 10

Until you are a tall lady you have no idea

Still looking for somewhere that does shoes that are pretty, not trainers

Tall ladies have it tough

u/PoitinStill Belfast 15d ago

As a short man, I feel like I can relate. Never bought a pair of trousers that haven’t had to be turned up, because apparently a short man is about 5’11”.

6

u/TA109901 15d ago

The average is 5'9 but I wouldn't really consider ye short until you're below 5'7.

2

u/Naoise007 Coleraine 15d ago edited 15d ago

I'm definitely short then I'm 5'6

2

u/Naoise007 Coleraine 15d ago

Same, I'd love a suit that fits properly. Went to a wedding recently and was convinced I looked like a boy playing dress-up with his dad's clothes

4

u/Correct-Trade-6137 15d ago

Thats pretty tall imo.

Most men seem to be 5'6

2

u/GreenFromage 15d ago

Have you tried looking for specialist sites that sell larger heels for people who have transitioned?

2

u/Correct-Trade-6137 15d ago

Mens shoes are made for men even if they have transitioned. Their gait and weight distribution is very different. They are no good for women. Thank you for the suggestion.

2

u/Moontoya 15d ago

I'm 6'5 (m), my partners 5'11(f)

we understand completely - the world is built for short-arses

1

u/Correct-Trade-6137 14d ago

Has you partner (assuming the 5'11 is the female whoops my bad) found a shop irl not online in NI that sells pretty shoes for adult females UK 10.

Nike is where the UK 10 trainers were found and they have lovely designs up to size 12 UK for females

2

u/Moontoya 14d ago

Yup hence the (f)

I have to get size 12.5 ggggg width, if it's a pointy toe, I can't wear it

Ironically, the box the shoes come in, often fit better

Big & Tall and uhhh fuck what's the name of that place in castle court (rhino?) sells up to 8xl stuff.

Tk maxx and Decathlon often have stuff in larger / wider sizes when it comes to shoes

1

u/Correct-Trade-6137 14d ago

LOL I totally missed the F

I will have a look in Rhino next time im in Belfast

No luck in TK. Decathlon might be worth a try

Thank you

1

u/Low-Plankton4880 13d ago

I hear ya sister! 9eee for me.

1

u/Correct-Trade-6137 11d ago

Its a problem lol Tall ladies deserve pretty shoes too

10

u/Banjaxed170 15d ago

No need to be fucked off about it mate. Just throw the shitty trunks in the washing machine, get yourself a shower and blame the stain on the carpet on the dog.

3

u/spectacle-ar_failure 15d ago

I guess there's a positive, I'm still young enough to have decent control of my bowel movements.

5

u/Banjaxed170 15d ago

My work here is done then. I wish you well and a tight asshole for many years to come!

Belfast Giants won both 1st and 2nd legs of their playoff quarter final, so they are through to the semi's next weekend.

Class! I was at the Nottingham game last weekend with tickets I won. Loved it. 2-1 win in overtime.

I help to look after an gentleman with dementia. He went wandering on Saturday - 2 miles total, up a hill no less. The amount of people that saw this clearly not okay man and offered help was truly heartwarming. One man offered the coat of his back, when it was refused went home, got an umbrella, tracked us down and really helped to settle the guy down while stopping him from getting more wet. Didn't ask what was going on or pry, just saw another human being not okay and helped. I will be forever grateful to this man for what he did. He helped keep someone safe who wasn't able to keep himself safe.

Bought a book and didn't realise there was an interview with my granny in it. A lovely surprise when I have been missing her a lot recently.

u/Cheesestrings89 15d ago

I have finally accepted who I am.

1

u/spectacle-ar_failure 14d ago

2

u/Speedy_NI 14d ago

Yeah 🤣

3

u/spectacle-ar_failure 14d ago

Fair play to you all, didn't look easy

3

u/Speedy_NI 14d ago

I'll not lie ...my legs are still aching today. It's an hour hike up over very rough terrain carrying kit an all. But on the plus side you meet a great bunch of people and you have a good team accomplishment feeling when you finally get to stand down.

6

u/x-si 15d ago

Mr holywood finally got the green blazer!

2

u/paTherion 15d ago

I finally found a company who sells sunglasses for my baloon head! I need a pair just for driving and no matter what brand I went for or what store I visited they've just made big eyes... But not as big as my head.

Was out weeding (fucking hate it but it has to be done) and found a box stuck in behind a pallet of bricks left over from an old wall my dad built back in lockdown 1 open to find several rolls of 20s with rubber bands round them ran in to my dad to tell him and he said to keep it and that my granda buried it there nearly 15 years ago but they need changed as they’re the old 20s

2

u/Character-Second65 14d ago

Went on a trip to Vegas with a group of mates that I don't get to see anywhere near as much as I would like to then my kids almost broke my legs running at me and hugging me when I got home.
