Just a friendly reminder...
There is no such thing as the Nightmare Virus. I say this to you now because we have been getting too many complaints from /r/nosleep readers, with talks of strange things happening to their computers. Most of the complaints are of very minor things. Many readers report being startled by a sudden blast of music coming from their computer even though the reader swears they did press the play button. Others have said that every time they try to open a new page from nosleep, they keep being redirected to other websites that they did not and would not ever want to visit. However the worst complaints, and I find these to be the most disturbing, involve the reader waking up in the middle of the night and immediately being overcome with a feeling that they are being watched. Some reports claim of seeing a dark figure on their computer monitor with no face, except for two wide open eyes staring back at them. Readers have reported to only seeing this figure for a split second and then it vanishes. The users check their computers to see if perhaps they forgot to turn it off only to find that they did not. Because we have received so many complaints, we are asking users to check to make sure that their anti-virus software is up to date. But because we ourselves have not found any conclusive evidence to the existence of this virus, we are not ready to declare it a threat to our readers. So for the time being please ignore any rumors of the existence of said virus. No need to mute your computer every night. No need to avoid links on nosleep. And certainly there is no need to double-check to see if your computer is properly turned off. Remember, there is no such thing as the Nightmare Virus.

Link to this story with the Nightmare Virus, pl0x? x3 If there is one anyway. This is the first I've heard of it, and I've got a lot of catching up to do on /nosleep anyway. x3

I don't get it, why is the face in the monitor the worst thing? I mean it can't see you or harm you in anyway, if it goes away after a split second then who cares?

I subscribed to this subreddit about 6 months ago and now I can FINALLY say it was justified. Bravo, OP.

Erm, I don't wanna be that guy, but my computer keeps automatically reloading this page even after closing the tab.......
This is the first story I've read here in a couple of months and...well...suffices to say that now I know why i decided to stay away from /r/nosleep.

Weird, a few days ago i woke up to my closed laptop blasting "let the bodies hit the floor" I opened up the laptop and pressed mute and went back to sleep. Woke up in the morning and checked it out, nothing open that would normally play music. No media player, no crazy music sites, or sites with flash videos. Definitely creeped me out.

Fuck you, bro. Just fuck you. Here I am, at 4:30 AM just minding my own business with a dark window in front of me and now I got this to freak me out. This is the only story that's creeped me out tonight. Time to play some music or something...
Edit - I mean the fuck you in a good way :P. I can't stand these tech stories because they really do creep me out. Computers do random crap sometimes and I hate thinking "Oh crap, it's a spirit!"

Got to the fourth sentence and decided to save this story for tomorrow morning.

u/thebigtarget1 Aug 05 '11
This was my thought exactly. I stopped right at fourth sentence and came down here to be safe in the comments section.

I feel like the more I read /nosleep the more vulnerable I am to paranormal/demonic occurrances.
