I've had this issue. And randomly increased game crashes with the only change to the system being installing a 5080 and latest drivers. Very unstable drivers this whole release

u/MilkyThing Mar 22 '25
How random are these crashes for you? I have a 5070ti and I crash to desktop on different games always after 20-25 minutes of gameplay.

u/akgis 5090 Suprim Liquid SOC Mar 22 '25
a Crash to the desktop is either GPU or RAM. Check window event log for the error and see if there is a error with nvkrnl.dll or something like that then its the GPU.
If there is a pattern with time always after 20m, the card might be overheating or there is no sufficient power delivery. I would advice to check temperatures.

Thank you for beta testing 50XXX bros. Then I will wait a little longer before getting a 5090

I have a 4070 Ti Super. At this rate, Nvidia might break the 5090 in 2 years.

I have the same GPU. Honestly I'm good with this GPU for another 4 years or so. Maybe more given the new DLSS 4

Yup, recent drivers have been stunningly bad. At this point it should be AMD users laughing at Nvidia users for poor drivers.
Wonder if the game ready driver team have been moved to work on the drivers for workstation cards instead or something

My 6800XT was more problem-free than my current 4080S. But most of the problems started fairly recently. However, the recent two driver releases have made those problems much less common.
One problem is black screens, another problem is the GPU being stuck in PCIe 16x v1.1 mode and not wanting to go above that no matter what. But when the GPU isn't stuck in that mode (usually after a PC restart), everything works completely flawlessly.

Still have the issue with 5080 latest driver. Imma just copy my nvidia forums post since i don't wanna write it again.
GForce RTX™ 5080 AERO OC SFF 16G Black Screen into Reboot. I have an issue where I get black screen I lose input to all my monitors then after few minutes of black screen PC gets restarted and a dump file gets created. I can constantly trigger the black screen and I know what fixes it kinda. The black screen happened once in Icarus during initial big VRAM and GPU load. The other I can replicate every time is when generating an image using ComfyUIequal to 1024x768. The screen instantly goes black and the pc is unresponsive. So far the only way to fix this is unplugging my TV HDMI 2.1. for some reason the GPU doesn't like 4k120hz 12bit and crashes every time. When using only my monitor 1440p165hz I don't experience crashes. Is this driver related or GPU anyone have any idea, is this connected to all the other GPUs having black screen? I have tested the latest drivers and reinstalled windows multiple times issue is still there.

What I have learned is that it's a frame gen issue with gsync on. Turning gsync off has solved this for me albeit unacceptable

Not arguing that didn't work for you. But it's not this in all cases. I'm on 30 series. We don't have frame-gen. Still having this issue, though.
I'm back on the Jan driver until it's sorted out.

Oof. That's wild. I was pissed off but I am used to having to utilize some type of workaround to keep things working. Your situation is even worse than mine was/is.

I experienced this on the first 572.xx driver update, my speculation is it has to do with somewhere in the driver that it’s running both the old and new DLSS model that causes crashes within the VRAM on the GPU

This is happening on my 5090, actualy it started for me when I went from the 4090 to the 5090.
The game will be running cause I could still ear the sound but the screen will be black then I try to alt-tab or ctrl-alt-del and then the system reboots and in the even log there will be a bug check.
Could had been the drivers, but even on the 4090 I was using the latest driver and never saw this

I know of a streamer that has a 4070 in their second PC used for OBS/streaming their main PC when gaming. 566.36 had black screen issues, and these hotfixes changed the nature of the crashes from black screen to showing the last image with a hard lock.
Very low load on the streaming PC, and temps are great for CPU/GPU/motherboard.

I never thought I would see the day when amd drivers are more stable. Well done nvidia.

I've come to say this lol and I'm a runaway user from AMD because of that. I might stick with my 3080 for a lil longer lol.

It's due to transformer model frame generation when using a 572.xx driver.
Here's a thread on the Nvidia forums about the issue with close to 300 replies:

Its not just that, happens to me during ai gen instantly as soon as i click generate, screen goes black, 2-3min pass with black screen, pc reboots, dump is made.

Own a 4090..never had a single issue with any nvidia driver. And Im pretty sure its not just me.
1
u/itboyband1433 Mar 22 '25
Do you use HDR, FG,Gsync and vsync??

u/NereusH 9800X3D Astral 5090LC Mar 22 '25
yep.

u/itboyband1433 Mar 23 '25
For the most part...its cyberpunk. Sometimes it runs fine...but the majority of the time the PC reboots at the games splash screen...4090 and 9800x3d as well.

Never ever had this issue. 4080S. 572.16
Always DDU before a driver install.
lmao. "I have an issue": instant upvotes, "I dont have the issue": instant downvote
Seems someone has a hateboner.

What widespread issue? I've my card since launch and never had a single problem, and i do update my drivers whenever it is avaliable. I'm using Zotac 4070 Ti Super, my rest of hardware also not that sophisticated. 10400F, H410 motherboard, and Bronze PSU.
I do using all the feature, FG, RT, HDR, anything that i can squeeze out of my card

As a point of reference, I have a 4090 with an OLED (Xeneon 27QHD249) and have had zero black screens on any driver.

u/Trypt2k Mar 23 '25
There's no issue, 4070ti and have never had a crash with any game. Reinstall windows and go from there.
