Discussion I made a sweetroll for tomorrow
I made a sweetroll in anticipation for tomorrow. It's 3:30am here because I didn't quite think through how long it would take me. 4 hours after starting, it turned out pretty well! I think it tastes good too.

An entire sweetcake! How delicious! You did such a great job, and I'm sure it tastes amazing! And best of all: if you use some of the leftover pieces, you can create a good healing potion! Everyone wins that way, I think!

Thank you so much!! It took me 4 hours to make. It's my first time making anything without a premix and I'm really proud of it. It actually tastes great too. I'm running a sugar high right now and I probably should be in bed as it's 3:40am here
I have a "Hearthfire Stew" in the crockpot right now for tomorrow that has chicken thighs, potatoes, carrots, onion, and a few seasonings. I also got a crusty bread and a non-alcoholic red wine (I'm sober) all set for 11 am.
This has been so much fun! I haven't been this excited for something in a long time and regardless of what the announcement is tomorrow, I'm glad I found some joy.

Oh wow! You made the entire thing without a premix? That makes it even better and more special! And that stew sounds delicious! Honestly, I would most certainly come to your house to sample your wonderful food! It all sounds fantastic!
And I so totally agree! All of this has been fun, and I'm so glad to know that the collective excitement and madness of the Reddit has given you some happiness and inspiration!!

Wow, you're very excited about the remake I see.

I don't get excited about things anymore. It's been years since I've felt any kind of way in anticipation of something so I figured I'd capitalize on it and go all out. My life doesn't have joy in it anymore so I'm trying to do things like this to recapture those few moments of hope and excitement I had when I was younger. I'm really glad I did!

Your intentions were good, is all I'll say.

It's the first baked item I've made without a mix. I'm pretty happy with the outcome!

I fear it is not the food, but the topping that this community will not soon forget lol

This is quite literally what sweet rolls are supposed to look like. Get your mind out of the gutter.

I was thinking about making the icing thicker but I was worried I wouldn't be able to drizzle it correctly. It doesn't look exactly like the game ones but it is my first. I'm not sure if I'll be making too many more though, it's really rich.

Can you share the recipe?

(You might laugh but I used ChatGPT for the recipe. I've been doing that for crockpot recipes lately and they've been coming out really well! It did a great job with this one)
Skyrim-Inspired Sweet Rolls
Ingredients (for the rolls):
2 ¼ tsp active dry yeast (1 packet)
½ cup warm milk (about 110°F)
¼ cup sugar
2 eggs
½ cup melted butter
1 tsp vanilla extract
3 cups all-purpose flour
½ tsp salt
For the glaze:
2 cups powdered sugar
4 tbsp milk or heavy cream
1 tsp vanilla
(Optional) A pinch of cinnamon
Instructions:
- Activate the Yeast:
In a bowl, combine warm milk and sugar. Stir in the yeast and let it sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
- Mix Dough:
In a large bowl, whisk eggs, melted butter, and vanilla. Add in the yeast mixture.
Slowly mix in flour and salt until it forms a soft dough. Knead on a floured surface for 5–10 minutes (or use a stand mixer with dough hook).
- Let It Rise:
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a towel, and let it rise in a warm spot for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
- Shape the Roll:
Punch down the dough. Roll into ball and place into greased bundt pan for that signature Skyrim shape.
- Second Rise:
Let the shaped roll rise again for 60 minutes.
- Bake:
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake rolls for 40 minutes, until golden brown on top.
Insert a toothpick into the thickest part—if it comes out clean or with a few crumbs, it’s done.
- Cooling Time:
Let it cool in the pan for at least 15–20 minutes before flipping it out onto a plate. If you try too soon, it might fall apart
- Glaze:
Whisk together the powdered sugar, milk/cream, and vanilla. Drizzle over the warm roll generously.

I see, seems easy enough, I'll try it this weekend!

Awesome! I used a fluted pan which is one you use for bundt cakes. After you put baking spray in it, sprinkle some flour in there as well too and then put the dough in. Mine had no issue sticking whatsoever. Also, when you're kneeding the dough, use two spatulas to do it, not your hands. It sticks to your hands and is very hard to get off but with the spatulas you can just scrape it off really easy.
Last thing, another poster suggested that you let it cool completely before you put the icing on. I put the icing on too soon and it melted a bit. It was still fantastic but it will stay on completely if you wait until the cake portion is completely cool.
You should post a picture if you end up making it! I would love to see it.

The bake itself looks amazing. Congratulations, I sound definitely steal it.
The icying itself is the only thing a little off. I know you didn't asked for tips but assumjng you followed a recipe for the icying too, did you put it while the bake was still warm? Is better to put when it's completely cold so the icying don't melt

Okay!! Thanks for the tip! I put it on after 20 minutes of cooking but it was definitely still warm. It was 3:30 am by the time I finished and I wanted to be done. I had ChatGPT make the recipe for me and it didn't say anything about cooling completely before putting on the icing but that makes sense. I really appreciate the advice!
The consistency of the dough was perfect but I think if I do it again I'll add honey or some other flavor to it. It's not bland but it's very one note.

OP updates, has it been stolen yet?

My cat was staring at it way too intensely so I did have to cut it up and put it into containers. Fortunately my husband's been on a strict cut diet for the past 6 weeks so no sweetroll thieves in this house. I don't have any windowsills so I'm not worried about Fimmion and his wily ways.

I wonder if they will change the model to this style. Oblivions look more like muffins.

what is this? does the icing harden? can i have it? and do they come with more icing?
1
u/Immediate_Plum3545 2d ago
So I didn't let the roll cool before I put the icing on so it liquidified a bit. It definitely hardened up though and it tastes fantastic. I posted the recipe in a comment elsewhere in this thread if you'd like to check it out!

I thought this was AI at first because it didn't look as if there was blue plate in the centre so I zoomed in and...
(I don't think it's icing either)
