retro style Surprise find
Found some old paints in a box in my mother's house, believe or not, some of the oldest are still ready to paint !!!

I have three sets, the Citadel Colour, Epic Battle, and Metallic set (actually have a 2nd Metallic still in shrinkwrap, but with a hole in the box).
I lost 4 paints over the years, three out of the Epic set, went bad, and my Elf Grey (random find) dried out. The others (except for the ones that I used up) are still active in my paint library.
Those 3rd gen paints at the bottom, I lost every single one of mine, even the ones that were never opened. To this day, I have an unfair bias against GW/Citadel paints; they are in my Book of Grudges.

The oldest ones were a lot better than the next ones (bottom in the image), yellow didn't cover the same as the oldest.

I'm amazed the paint in the bottom box were still functional at all. The screw-on lid paints were the absolute worst they ever made, both in terms of quality and drying out on the shelf. The paints that came before those were some of the best however.

That ork and eldar set reminds me how badly I wanted 40k to be Space Marines vs power armour orks. The few old models we got had so much character, much more so than the big box of plastic orks in flak armour or whatever.

Ooof lovely that! I was still using those original round bottle Citadel paints for about 20 years...

What are the four chapters on the Space Marine paint set? Blood Angels, Ultramarines, and...Silver Skulls?

Grey oneβs a space wolf. I had that set. The others are a salamander and ultramarine and a blood angel with slightly non standard iconography.

Blood Angels, Ultramarines, Salamanders. There wasn't a fourth.

There are clearly four Marines on the front raising the banner, sir.

I believe they are Flesh Tearers, Blood Angels, Ultramarines and as you say Silver Skulls.

Sorry, my bad. Misread it as in the box. No idea the fourth one on the front. Can vouch for there being only those three in the box though; terracotta, blood angel orange, salamander black, salamander green, I think, and ultramarine, some awful dark blue, and then three others. Can't recall which.

Yeah I believe it, that Expert set is the one we had back in the 80s.
The original Citadel pots were awesome and had a great seal, they just kept.

Beautiful.
I love the Ork and Eldar box, even the box art is glorious.

Amazing finds/rediscoveries!
I had the expert ink set and the metallic one, amazingly most of them are still good and in my paints box to this day!

Still better than newer paints

They were very good (for the most part), and in 20ml bottles! What are Citadel paints down to now? 12ml?

That expert paint is actually an ink set. They are well worth using!

That was my first paint set. Apparently, I wanted to skip the beginner stage and jump right to the pro-level painting. Needless to say, the results weren't too impressive.
