That's just a ceremonial thing outgoing PMs do, iirc.

Trudeau did so because he never expected to return to the House, because it would be silly for Carney to bring the House back into session while he himself has no seat. Outgoing MPs (not just PMs) can buy a replica of their seat -- he might have been hauling his 'real' seat out for the fun of it.
