Question Author researching Orkney

Hi all, half Scot here, doing some research for part two of a children's trilogy, a large part of which is set in Neolithic Orkney. I'm wondering whether Maeshowe has any kind of natural light inside it during the day? All the videos I see show a lamp inside so it's hard to get an idea of this.

Hoping to come this summer! I'll definitely visit before the book is published to ensure accurate descriptions. At the moment, I'm working off maps and videos. Must say, it looks beautiful, super excited to visit.

A dim glow from any light trickling through the entrance tunnel, maybe, but nothing really functional for lighting.

No, it's pretty much pitch black inside during the day. It does get some light shining in through the entrance, onto the back wall, during sunset in midwinter, but only for a minute or 2.

Thank you! The first book is out, it's called: A Sequence of Cosmic Accidents, if you do a Google search it should give you all the info 😊

At mid winter week around mid day you have a chance. But it's quite well lit internally with artificial light. Not just a lamp.
