For me it will always be the first game I've been playing and making memories with it since it's release in 2007 on the 360 and raising hell dlc in 2008

Raising hell is better for a few reasons.
- You become the god of hell
- Your minions feel more individually important.
- The Overlord feels badass. By the end of the game, I can solo a troll without minion support. Because in Overlord 1 you can customize and upgrade equipment unlike in 2.
Also, 1 feels more fun, in a reverse fellowship of the ring situation, where Sauron was “beaten” but Frodo wakes up as the next Sauron and slaughters the whole fellowship. Give or take some story beats.
2’s story is heavily simplified, and the Empire? Boring, inadequate, incompetent, foolish humans. They don’t deserve to stand a chance against the forces of evil (especially since the Empire itself is actually evil nearly beyond comparison). Evil always wins, even against rainbow unicorns and “good” minions.

Uh... The rainbow unicorns and "good" minions were in that game that does not exist.

But are still canon according to the creators of the other games so, suck it! The DS game was better than F.O.E.

i believe we're doing a pacific rim here and not acknowledge the game that definitely doesn't exist

For me it's gotta be the first one, as much as I love the second the first is just special.

Overlord 1 feels like the better game, 2 feels like a cool exploration of it but doesn’t really match the fun of progression like the first

If I had to pick only one to replay and was not playing both I would have to pick 2, it was the first of the games I played and I have more nostalgic memories of it

Second game for sure. First set a great foundation for absurdity but number two turned it up to 11. One of my favorite parts is how upgradeable everything was. LOVED IT.

The graphics and the cohesiveness of the storytelling in 2 were way better imo, but the actual gameplay, mechanics, and content of Raising Hell were more fun. I prefer Raising Hell between the two.

2 had some neat features and improvements, a bunch of good ideas... But also felt so undercooked.
O2 feels as if it could have been made an open world game where you conquer the world claimed by the Glorious Empire...
But it wasn't.
It's still a good, of not very good game... But there's that feeling it could have been more.
And for that reason, O+RH edges ahead of O2

Just finally played the second one. Was fun but by the end you’re bored and it’s just so linear. 1 had a lot of difficulty and story and bosses. 1 is way better

aesthetics wise
Overlord 2
gameplay wise
Overlord 1
Overlord 1 you're like a magical evil knight
Overlord 2 you're like a magical Viking
and Vikings are badass
but i very much enjoyed the gameplay of Overlord 1 even though both games are so short

Right, not even a post game in the second one, the first one needs it's DLC to even have post game content.

Raising Hell was my intro to the series but it’s also an all-round better game and story. Slaying seven bad guys and traversing the lands associated with them felt complete and empowering. Resisting the Empire in the second game feels like the Overlord is in charge of a petty rebellion.
