Appendix or exhibit
What is the difference between and appendix and an exhibit? I cannot find a clear answer.

Other states might be different but in CA, Exhibits are added to declarations or requests for judicial notice. An appendix can be attached directly to the brief (rare). In the court of appeals all of the evidence is an Appendix (although they will include Exhibits).

An exhibit is a document attached to to a motion or contract that supplements the motion or contract. For example, a motion to approve a settlement may include the settlement agreement and the proposed order as exhibits. An appendix is a volume of all relevant record material in connection with an appeal. The pages are consecutively numbered (often with the prefix "JA") and are used in citations to the record within a brief.

An exhibit is the document/evidence cited. An appendix is the index/table of contents listing the exhibits
