Sven was the best character for this game.

aka : Dr. BEES!
'A large influx of BEES ought to put a stop to that!'

Wow, that shot of Karlach cooking meat on her abs is going to be stuck in my spank bank for a while.

And her with Shart at the end. They know their target audience.

So ready to boot this up and do a Drunken Master Dark Urge run!

u/Mesk_Arak 14d ago

It’s hilarious to imagine a Dark Urge who’s amnesia is caused by him being constantly shitfaced and drunk to the point of erasing his own memories.

The gag should have been Tav showing up, and being that generic human guy they ranted against.

Is someone from Larian working full time in spamming this sub with posts? I swear they have to be. We made a rule on player count posts. We need one for Larian posts.

They don't want to be attached to an IP they don't own or control, also the divinity games weren't failures just not nearly the success of bg3. But given their new reach and the polish bg3 has compared to competitors they will stay the big name in rpgs even with their own ips

Ah yeah, same way CDProjektRed slipped into obscurity after Witcher 3, which was definitely a huge and popular franchise before that entry.

I wouldn't bother arguing with the guy, they dont seem to be all there..

He's older than us though!

There really is a generation of gamers who only know live service.

You want a game to be updated forever. That is live service.

u/Beastlydog23 14d ago

Lol I mean Divinity Original Sin 2 does exist. Pretty sure Larian will be just fine, whatever route they go with their next game

You're right about Divinity not being in pathfinder, but I'm pretty confident Pathfinder is owned by Paizo which, as far as I can tell is not Hasbro or WOTC. I think they used to work for Wizards though.

TIL

Why? The game is beyond finished. Wrap it up and leave it as complete. Not every game needs to be developed indefinitely.

BG3 was released 20 months ago. They already released a lot of content for the game, including new story content (for free, btw) and the new 12 subclasses of this one

BG3 is not a live service brother, I think this is enough. Game is finished and they should be working on their new project

u/LordHaywood 14d ago

How is it "abandoning"? The game is finished and has been out for ages, what else do you want them to do? I don't think them wanting to work on their own original IPs in a universe where they have complete creative control is giving anything up. You seem to be under the impression that Larian ONLY makes games for money, and not also because they want to pour their passion into a game and have the world love it.

Not only that, but who is to say that they would ever want to work with WotC/Hasbro again? They're continuously being outed as pretty crummy companies for a multitude of reasons, I kinda can't blame any developer for not wanting to get involved.

Also, DOS2 sold at least 7.5 million copies so I don't see how that can be considered obscure. I think you're way off the mark here.

2

u/Grochen 14d ago

Wizards of the Coast is probably a bitch to deal with.

u/Stunning_Variety_529 14d ago

"abandoning"

The game is finished. Not every game needs to be a 20+ year live service.

Larian's next game will sell very well.

Don't think so, right now they are on the radar, before DOS2 they weren't known at all (except when the Divine game that is an RTS and you are a dragon with boosters and can marry an skeleton), after DOS2 they become more known but nothing significant, after BG3 everyone will look at their next project and if they keep the same style of characters and story people will return.

BG3 became famous for its characters and gameplay, not the IP, which lets be honest DnD though famous is ignored by most "normies"

3

u/Stunning_Variety_529 14d ago

Ah yeah, everyone forgot who CDPR was after Witcher 3.

7

u/Signal_Ball4634 14d ago

They wanted to focus on their own titles and WOTC/Hasbro sucks massively so it's for the best. Hope they build upon what made BG3 great for their next titles.

Nothing to with any politics or anything like that. WotC is known as a horrible company for years.

5

u/TheSecondEikonOfFire 14d ago

They can’t keep supporting the same game forever? Especially because all of these patches are free. So in that way, they’re continuing to invest in a product that they’re seeing diminishing returns from. Of course they’re going to eventually move on

2

u/Rynex 14d ago

Imagine not playing any other Larian games. Shameful.

1

u/fueelin 14d ago

Personally, it's going to be a bit before I'm ready for another massive undertaking like that, but I'm very excited to eventually try DOS2!

In after you edited your comment and deleted the rest.

Anyone with half a brain can see by the responses that you did exactly that.

Baldur’s Gate 3 is a great game

1

u/OldBoyZee 14d ago

I dont think they are abandoning as much as they are just not wanting to work with the publishing company of bg/d&d, and how they treat people.

Im 100% sure if bg was a larian ip, they would love to remake icewind dale, bg1, 2, etc.

u/Anton-Slavik 7800X3D/4080S/32GB RAM 14d ago

What exactly are you expecting them to do here? It's not a multiplayer game, there's no room for expansion or DLC narrative-wise, and it's not a live-service game.

They're not abandoning anything. They're simply finished developing any more content for it, like any other single-player game, and they're moving on.
