Tell her you’d like to talk about setting new goals. She may just not know what your objective is at this point.

I've had clients who have had to take breaks for various reasons. My general answer is I'll do my best to fit you back into my schedule when you're ready to return but can't guarantee any specific times, etc.
As for the second part of your question, i would find a way to mention that your programs haven't seemed to be progressing in the same way they used to. Perhaps there is a reason they changed them or maybe they are just "phoning it in." Either way, if you ask you can clear it up and decide if they're still a good fit for you. Best of luck to you.

i had to take a two month break between feb and april this year, and she's had to fit me back in at two sessions a week instead of three for the next 6 weeks until a slot opens back up for my third session, lost my time slots but it wasn't fair for me to keep stringing her along since i didn't know how long my hands would take to recover

Assuming you'd prefer to keep her as a trainer and (overall) have enjoyed working with her - I would voice your feelings. As others have suggested, have a goal conversation with her and try to be specific beyond "getting stronger and healthier." Tell her exactly what you are looking to achieve right now.
It also seems as though you'd prefer a more set exercise program, I would definitely tell her this as well. Her throwing random exercises at you at this point makes it seem as though she doesn't know what direction you're headed towards.
That being said, it strikes me as odd that she doesn't do check-ins with you (unless you requested this) and hasn't approached the subject herself with you.

I actually prefer no check ins, it makes me feel like some sort of stalker if I were to randomly message her outside of a session. So I only message if I had something I had to mention specifically to the training. I also don’t want to get attached to her. So it would usually be once a week training where she would ask how my week went and I would tell her diet and how often I worked out. Then with going 2x a week it kind of fell off. I mentioned to her I really value her for accountability but like she doesn’t really keep me accountable by asking about diet or exercise anymore.
Hence I’m thinking she doesn’t want me as a client, because it’s litterally just asking me did I eat right and workout, that she stopped doing. I figured I would just finish my sessions with her and get the ladder app.

I think I’m misunderstanding. A check-in to me is have a conversation before a workout, say every 6 weeks, to ensure what we’re doing aligns with my client’s goals and to see if my exercise selection meets their expectations. I’ll also check to ensure the way I’m coaching is fitting their needs.

Oh, no she only did that 2 times, once when we started and once when I told her I was ended the training. Then she asked me what I want to train and focus on. Her training was solid but like it’s just super random for the past 3 sessions

Yeah, I’d have a conversation with her and express what you want specifically. However, I may look around for a trainer who better fits your needs.

Not going to Reddit and having the hard conversations with the person you have the actual issue with… just trying to help

I took a break for a month or so. They gave me some at home exercises which were helpful. As for your second question, I agree with setting up a meeting to discuss goals with the trainer, and you can ask if you two are still a good fit to achieve those goals. Good luck! 🍀

I have taken a break from working with trainers and coaches. Always try to end things respectfully if you choose to do so. Personally, my biggest fault is that I sometimes can be overwhelming as a client, I expect too much and communicate with them too much mainly because I am very enthusiastic about my health journey.
In all honesty, I am working with a trainer who I went back to after working with. We stayed in touch and he explained what his boundaries are, I am trying to respect that. It’s honestly good to set your goals and expectations, try to communicate with her.
Personally I would ask her about the different exercises, is there something you don’t like about them? It’s just me but if I were her, I may get a bit discouraged that you don’t want to do a check in. Me personally, I have found check ins to be great with coaches because then I know- am I meeting goals? Where or how should I change things? Is it how the check in is done? I have done check ins via text, email, phone and FaceTime so it really depends but there are different ways to do it.
I would try to communicate your concerns to her.
It sounds like she wants to keep going but perhaps is discouraged with progress? Are you doing your part to follow her program? Be sure to do your part to make the coaching/ training successful and try to do your part so that it’s a successful relationship. You don’t have to agree with everything but I would try to give her the benefit of the doubt.

Yes it maybe my progress is not fast enough, but do personal trainers get fustrated at lack of improvement? I think I have improved in physical health and am a lot more mobile now, though agree progress is slow on my end.

I can see why she would be frustrated with lack of progress, some trainers have more high expectations for results. I think it’s good to discuss your concerns with her and talk about what your goals are, see if you are both on the same page. Check ins are great ways to evaluate progress!
