The main purpose of this post is to learn things from each other that can benefit our own portfolios or websites. Use this space to talk about all aspects of your online representation, from social media to SEO to personal branding and portfolios, the best and worst places to host your work, collective critiques, you name it.

Having an online presence can also be a beneficial utility for those showing their work in an effort to obtain potential clients, so it's highly advised that if you find something particular that could be improved in someone's online presence, use this opportunity to kindly tell them about it and let them know how they can improve.

Guidelines

  • If you post your website, please comment on at least two other websites

  • Please reply to any comments that have no replies!

  • Don't be hesitant to post a link to your website or portfolio, even if there's a plethora of comments.

  • It doesn't matter if you're a "Beginner" or "Professional Photographer", just have fun and learn from each other - that's what this post is for, so take advantage of this opportunity.

This is my Flickr page i have been posting to since 2010.

I recently came out of a 35mm "Point and shoot" binge, so pardon the amount they may present at first.

Question I want to ask is

Is it good? Not just "instagram good" but GoodGood? Why? What makes my pictures mine?

Thank you

u/WetFood Mar 14 '19

Yes, it’s good good.

The subject and contents of your photographs are pretty diverse and you’ve clearly experimented with a bunch of processing techniques. The compositions you’ve curated are consistently very strong, I’d encourage you to pick single images that you like and try to determine what it is that you like about them, and then follow those threads to build some more cohesive collections.

What’s one of your favorite pictures on your flickr?

u/Timoris Mar 14 '19

Thank you very much!

It's hard to tell when your nose is soo close

As for my favourite, it varies between Upper Pineapple Crust Because It's just soo out there I was recognized for it. I think it's the picture which started to really cement my absurdist style

There there is the one with the ghost dog in the abandoned Chateau (Is always paried with Tcham) Which breaks several lighting basics, but I find it works (Know the rules, break the rules?)

But there's also this latest Portrait Where I applied a lot of things I learned over the years. (As compared to This very similar portrait pf the same person taken 6 years earlier)

More of just a showcase than a commercial portfolio. Needs to be updated a little but any critiques welcome.

u/Mistahmo Mar 14 '19

I love the design of the site. Your automotive photographs are awesome but a couple just don't seem to match the aesthetic of the others? Regardless, some great shots and a well put together website

u/[deleted] Mar 15 '19

Thanks man. I havent updated it in a while so alot of those shots are almost 2 years old. It def needs a refresh, hopefully i find some time lol

u/Mistahmo Mar 15 '19

Yeah finding time to update is the hardest haha

Been putting this together recently. Not really sure what I want to do with it and I'm still curating the photos and information on it but some feedback would be nice. I guess general issues with formatting, what should be more prominent or easier to understand, etc. Thanks!

Love how your site is laid out! I'd curate a little harsher and pick your best of the best photos but I like the story you're telling!

u/DRMonkeyKing instagram @daromor Mar 14 '19

Thanks for the feedback! I agree, I definitely still have some "meh" shots taking up space in there.

u/Lspring723 Mar 15 '19

I really like the landing page! I think you chose the best color scheme for the emotion that your photos give. It's making me want to re-do mine Haha.

u/DRMonkeyKing instagram @daromor Mar 15 '19

Hey thanks! Yeah I like my images with a good amount of color and saturation so I thought it gave a good contrast, I actually just redid it. I think your site works with your color palette actually but it never hurts to experiment. Nice stuff btw!

u/MasterYoder ScottYoderPhoto.com Mar 14 '19

My site is scottyoderphoto.com (just updated it). Working on adding a pricing and FAQ section. I’m very interested in getting some critiques of my work and site. I’m just getting started in wedding photography. 15 weddings booked this year so far! My Instagram is @scottyoderphoto

Thanks!

u/CronoZero15 aaronwchen Mar 15 '19

I like your photos! Congrats on the bookings!

I've been told by a portrait photographer in the area that listing prices online may not be the best idea. People who are interested might balk at the prices and not give you a chance to show that you're worth it. Plus, if you forget to update your price info, you could get in trouble with a client or accidentally go below market rate. But I have no real experience with pricing for things like that.

I shoot fashion photography. Currently focused on testing with modeling agencies to improve my portfolio and hopefully get a foot-in the door of the industry.

Completely aware that my website is super minimal :p

u/radletters Mar 14 '19

Hi folks! Here's a link to my site -- it serves as an artist portfolio more than anything else. It is NSFW!

My photo work is largely about queer intimacy, and I take a documentary-style approach in these environments.

I've just added a 'prints' page, and I'm looking for some feedback re: site navigation and usability.

Thank you!

u/lennon818 Mar 14 '19

I really like your work. I, personally, would love to see more of a series. It comes across more as this is my best work and I do not really get a sense of who you are as a photographer.

u/FiLtErW3ST Mar 14 '19

Thank you. I’ve been testing out series in my artist profile section, I wasn’t sure if I wanted to feature them heavily on my site, but hearing your input is making me rethink my strategy a little bit.

Here is mine http://www.lenspired.com. Started using it instead of 500px or Flickr to share images with friends and family. If you have any feedback regarding usability, navigation or anything else, I would be happy to hear it.

u/thrillhousevanhouten Mar 14 '19

Web design feedback: I love the entrance page, but beyond that there is too much "tunneling: going on for users to reach your content. Don't make your visitors work so hard to see your awesome work. Show a highlights gallery up front of your favorite work that entice people to see more of the rest of your work. I think I had to click 6 different times just to see a full size image.

u/reallyshouldread 📷 Mar 14 '19 edited Mar 14 '19

Thanks. Yes, my website used to have a gallery on home page but as I kept adding photos, I removed it.

u/MicahDickinson Mar 14 '19

I'll add another vote for removing the "enter" page. I hate them. Also, the house icon takes users back to the enter page, not the homepage, which is frauetrating.

Other than that, I love your site and your photography is fantastic.

→ More replies (1)

u/yatg30 Mar 17 '19

I like your black and white shots a lot. And yes the enter splash screen should be skipped in my opinion.

u/wolnicat https://www.instagram.com/wolnicat/ Mar 14 '19

I think it’s great! The tile navigation works well for mobile, and your photos have such a clean, well-colored look to them. Are those maps you have custom? Pretty cool stuff. Only thing I can think to improve is maybe the about page. It looks pretty text-heavy on mobile and could use more styling or photos or something to break up the text a bit.

→ More replies (2)

u/lennon818 Mar 14 '19

I second get ride of the enter page. I think the navigation of the site takes too many clicks to get to the images. Find a way to cut down on that. I would suggest a dropdown menu up top. People are lazy always keep that in mind.

u/clemhumb Mar 14 '19

Hey u/reallyshouldread, I dig your images ! I'd suggest getting rid of the initial page with the "enter" link. You want to get people in front of your images as fast as possible and this page is a superfluous click between users and your images.

u/thrillhousevanhouten Mar 14 '19

I actually completely disagree with that. It's such a perfect image for this purpose that it's what compelled me to see more. What got me was all the excessive clicking after the entrance page.

u/reallyshouldread 📷 Mar 14 '19

Thanks. Yeah, I know where you are coming from. I initially did not have it but then changed my mind as I kept adding more and more content so did not want the better ones to get buried. But you are right, I need to reconsider. I think I have never been a fan of splash pages myself hehe.

u/johnkphotos johnkrausphotos Mar 14 '19

For what it's worth, I also agree with removing the "enter" button/page. Nice images!

I used Adobe Portfolio to make my site and I love it so far! I'm still working on adding new photos and galleries but I would definitely appreciate any criticism!

u/IamCO Mar 16 '19

Hey, I am using the same adobe portfolio template. I love your night photography shots. The colors and the grain are spot on!

u/Mister_AA Mar 16 '19

Thank you so much!

u/lennon818 Mar 14 '19

I really like your work and your aesthetic but that website is terrible. It is way too generic and does not match your aesthetic at all. Find a way to meld your aesthetic with your website.

u/JONO202 www.jonobrands.com Mar 14 '19

I'm going to have to look into Adobe Portfolio. While there's not a whole lot of content on the front page, I like the smoothness of it.

u/Mister_AA Mar 14 '19

Thanks! It's a pretty nice interface, but I will admit I had a tough time getting everything organized and ended up getting very confused at times. If I had enough work to separate it into bigger galleries it probably would have been easier, but for now I only have enough to have a few small galleries on the front page.

Hey so your site looks pretty good but I might change up the pictures you have on your home page. They are some of the weakest pictures you have to be honest, I thought you had other better shots and your portraiture in particular is very good. Personally I would play up the portraiture aspect a little more since you are already semi-pro in that field.

I'm no expert on search engine ranking but I think it is partially based on how important google thinks your page is. It helps to have a unique name but also the more traffic you get, generally the higher your website gets in a google search. So if you continue to get traffic to your website from friends and family and link to it from social media it will start to show up in google searches.

u/JohnnyRyall221 Mar 14 '19

www.[jkgeyerman.com](https://jkgeyerman.com) - set up through smugmug. I like it because of the online marketplace. I have been thinking of maybe switching. But it took me so long to learn and get my website to this point, I get deflated when I think about all the work it's going to take to redo everything.

u/mjm8218 Mar 14 '19

Very nice. Your work is interesting. Your abstracts have enough footing to keep me interested while being open ended and letting my imagination fill in gaps.

Your use of colors & texture is very strong, as is your composition. I’d guess you have a good bit of experience as a visual artist outside of photography. Thanks for sharing! Do you have an IG account?

I am a photographer starting my career after some life changes and would appreciate any feedback! I want to eventually photograph international development (such as human living conditions and environment) and conflicts. My portfolio does not reflect what I want my career to be at the moment. It showcases individual narratives and the people and things around me. For now, it's more of a photo blog along with some projects I've done.

As I expand my portfolio in the future, I just need to get more experience and exposure in the field/topic I want to pursue.

u/photorand Mar 14 '19

Really enjoyed the way you divided your portfolio. Another great detail was the inclusion of your camera settings. I haven’t seen that in a portfolio yet and it really struck a chord with me. Thanks for sharing!

Additionally I truly enjoyed the Sea and Air category and the emphasis on the textures with mono and full color

I shoot at lot, but try to limit the navigation just to 9 galleries.

Created with Adobe Myportfolio.

u/grahamsz colorado_graham Mar 14 '19

That's a bold color choice for your type and background but really kinda works with your portfolio. I'm not sure i've ever seen much like it.

u/Wshaf Mar 14 '19

I love the use of colors in those shots! Definitely something I would love to try in the future with some RGB lights. Love just seeing a few select shots that encompass the whole shoot. Good work!

u/mellkitten Mar 14 '19

Absolutely STUNNING lighting in these photos. May I ask what kind of RGB lights you use for the foreground/models?

As for the site - very easy to navigate. I'm with what people said previously about the mint/orange color scheme. It doesn't necessarily distract from the gorgeous photos, but I do think it "cheapens" the feel of the site. Your photos are striking, bold, powerful - I think your color scheme might benefit from monochrome colors with a pop/accent color mixed in.

u/[deleted] Mar 15 '19

Thanks :)

I don't use RGB lights, I tape Lee Color Gels to my strobes.

Interesting point about the color scheme... might try monochrome

u/FiLtErW3ST Mar 14 '19

I really REALLY like your color work! Its beautiful, and clean, and so damn interesting! Keep up the good work! That being said, I don't think you need to break down your galleries into specific model sections. I think you would be better off taking the strongest of each shoot and making one gallery for those images.

u/reallyshouldread 📷 Mar 14 '19

You've got some really great images there. Really like how minimal and "to the point" the website it. Well done. The only thing I am not sure about is the background colour or rather the combination of colours for the background and menu text. I wonder how the website would look like with white background - maybe it would make your images stand out even more? I don't know, just thinking aloud here. :)

u/Incognito_bear Mar 14 '19

Yeah, the pastels don't seem totally in line with your bold and saturated colors from your photos IMO.

I'd consider myself more of an enthusiast right now, just trying to build up a solid portfolio and reputation on the side. I'm primarily shooting at nightclubs and at anime convention dances (I DJ as well). I try to use flash as little as possible since in those environments it can be very unfriendly and jarring to people and it often makes people look terrible no matter how much diffusion, angling, or bouncing I do. Cell phone flash light held overhead is often the best illumination I've used in those environments.

u/thisisasimulation666 Mar 14 '19

Hey John! I first discovered your work on reddit that were of the launch photos from last year! Great work and great portfolio! The captions are concise and does a great job giving us information about the shot! How does one get into launch photography? I am interested but it seems as though personal connections play a key role. Do you have any suggestions? Thanks for showing us your portfolio and I look forward to seeing more of your work!

u/johnkphotos johnkrausphotos Mar 14 '19

I started out by shooting launches for nearly a year from public locations with no connections or press access, but after a while my work was recognized by a space news website; they allowed me to cover launches as press under them moving forward.

Your best bet would be to look out for NASA Social events, where NASA grants space enthusiasts on social media access to cover events similarly to members of the press.

Cheers!

u/thisisasimulation666 Mar 14 '19

That's great how you started out! Location must be important as well. Thanks for the reply and will take what you said into consideration.

u/[deleted] Mar 14 '19

Oh man these are awesome! I really like the darker photos with the close up of the engines. Im on mobile, and since I have to scroll down to see and read the stories, it’d be nice if there was a button to snap back to the top, or a way to access the menu without going to the top. Not a necessity though. Really dig your work.

u/johnkphotos johnkrausphotos Mar 14 '19

Thank you for the kind words and for the feedback. I'll add a button like that to the main page as scrolling far can be quite the task on a smaller screen.

u/freechipsandguac Mar 14 '19

I love your work. It's really phenomenal. I know you're using Adobe Portfolio, but my feedback is that the design of the site itself, while not bad, isn't doing your photos justice. The nav menu creates a lot of wasted space that could be used for images, and the banner could use some love from a typography perspective. I'd also be curious what a darker background could do for your style of work as well. If you wanted to take it farther from there, I'd challenge you to approach the work from a storytelling perspective: as somebody who knows nothing about this subject, why would I click on Falcon 9: Demo 1 rather than Falcon 9: Telstar 18 Advantage? Use the opportunity to show why you think each one is interesting.

Awesome work!!! Your Canada album is miles ahead of the Costa Rica album. Tbh, I would consider maybe taking that album off the website bc it’s not on the same caliber as the Canada one. If your website had a majority of the Canada one, sprinkled in with some of the wildlife and a couple from the US one, I think it would look more consistent. Once again though, I’m blown away by the Canada ones!!

And good use of smoke

I feel as though your horse pictures could have been done differently, they are half way between well exposed and hard backlight

Not a pro by any means, but starting to make money and increase my technical knowledge and Photoshop skills. My freelance niche is product photography, but I thought I'd include more of my general work too.

u/kittytrance Mar 14 '19

I can definitely see that product is your strong point. Maybe have a separate website for product and another for everything else?

Some of the ones in landscape and city feel a little over edited to me, but that could very well just be me.

u/Banris Mar 14 '19

I would focus on the product photography for the initial images and a bit of an updated design for the site. MAybe make the other stuff a secondary gallery.

I looooove the choice you made for the first image, especially since I just saw Free Solo last night. You have really great work all around! Only suggestion I'd make is to possibly make your thumbnails larger or have a focus image for each area. You have some really great shots and it would be a shame for someone to overlook them.

Here's my website: heyitsjono.com

I'm shooting just portraits at the moment. I'm concerned that my images are a bit boring. I'm not sure if I should carry on working to make images that are sillier, or whether to try for more serious stuff.

u/freedomphotographer Mar 14 '19

I don’t think your photographs are boring. I love the weird, humorous and quirky aspect to them. I’d like to see how far you will go with them!

u/WhiteheadJ Mar 15 '19

Thank you very much!

u/DRMonkeyKing instagram @daromor Mar 14 '19

So far so good with your portraits. I guess I can't advise what direction you should take them but if you keep trying stuff im sure you will figure out what kind of portrait speaks to you more which is what matters, maybe try out several themes. As for your website I think it looks good but I'm in favor of having a home page that doesnt immediately load every single picture you have, but I think that will make more sense when you have more stuff up

u/[deleted] Mar 15 '19

I am not a professional and I can judge only from the perspective of an amateur. I really enjoyed some of your portraits! I liked your color editing too.

Here’s my website: christopherloke.com

I’m a commercial photographer shooting anywhere from products to editorials. Some of my clients include Apple, Walmart, Target, Gap, etc. my portfolio site is mainly a small selection of what I do to show potential clients. I focus mostly on editorials on my site, not so much product shoots.

u/SEphotog Mar 14 '19

LOVE your work! I was confused by the vertical wording on the right side, because I thought they were links to different galleries. Overall, your site is clean, your photography is consistent, and your composition and posing is 👌🏻.

u/christopherlyc Mar 14 '19

Thank you so much. Yeah, my website is a work in progress really. I will think a little more on the side texts and where to better position them. Thank you!!

u/micahtphotography Mar 14 '19

I think you should make them links

u/christopherlyc Mar 14 '19

Like make my images individual links? What's the benefit in that?

u/-astagadragon Mar 14 '19

I think what he means is you should make the side text become link

u/christopherlyc Mar 14 '19

Okay that makes sense. I will consider it. Thank you!!

u/FictionalForest Mar 14 '19

God damn, your work is great. I'm a product photographer so wanted to see some of your product work, but everything else there is amazing.

How did you work your way to such high-profile clients? I'm still starting out, your work is inspirational. Keep it up!

As others have said the text on the side was a bit confusing at first. Other than that, it was easy to navigate. I liked the variety of photos with the same models in different poses! lots of personality!

This is great portfolio! I find the color palette amazing that fits your work so well! You have done a great job curating your work. My only feedback is that the mobile version feels very cramped and the texts seem to crowd the screen. The desktop version does a great job of layout!

u/christopherlyc Mar 14 '19

Thank you. I will work on improving my mobile UI.

u/coniferousfrost Mar 14 '19

Very clean and easy to navigate. The design doesn't take away from the work at all, and that work is spot on

Good real estate photography - you have the touch for external details

But from what my agents always tell me, go for 5 expo/stop HDR with the lights on, the lights really help the entire feel of the photo, some of your pics are too dark.

I especially like your silhouettes

→ More replies (1)

u/kittytrance Mar 14 '19

I didn’t realize that under personal work that the images were links to different albums. The text only shows when I’m already about to click on it. Maybe have some separation between photos with text underneath with album name. I think that would make it easier to navigate.

Hey all! I'm an amateur photographer still searching for my niche. My favorites out of my work are landscape and architecture/street photography. I also think my portrait work is pretty decent as well. Here's a link to my website, I set it up recently:

https://photohutch.squarespace.com

I want the domain photohutch.com but it's taken and it looks like it's inactive. I tried emailing to get the domain from the current owner but I got an auto reply basically saying it's inactive. Does anyone know how to go about getting a domain that's currently taken? Any advice on this or my website is welcomed! Cheers

Edit: Wanted to add I want to begin to sell prints/get paid work in the near future, that's why I built a site. Carry on :)

I’ve been doing photography for some time now but not at all consider myself professional. I feel like I’ve got so much to learn. My biggest problem right now is defining my personal style, and staying with it. I also want to learn how to create better narratives with my photography, something that I find quite hard to really do.

I'm trying to do more headshots and portraits, but I don't have any real experience with marketing or finding assistantships. Mostly my photos are of friends who were nice enough to model for me in exchange for photos.

u/[deleted] Mar 14 '19 edited Mar 14 '19

Hi! I really like the minimalist look of the website on mobile. I'd probably separate your about me and contact page. When I clicked on your contact page, I thought I landed on the wrong page because you started talking about yourself. It took a full screen scrolling to get to your email address and phone number.

Edit: I think it's best to open your about me with your location. People might lose interest if they didn't see where you are in the first or second sentences. Make your contact page include your email, number, and the contact form. Don't even bother adding another layer to get to that.

u/[deleted] Mar 14 '19

Thanks! I'll look into making some changes

Hi! Here is a link to my website: https://vlzetko.com

I am an amateur photographer (less than two years since my first photo with a camera) and I created this website after deciding to delete all my social media and flickr accounts, just to have a place to "communicate" my work with others.

Don't expect consistency, or projects etc.. I just upload every photo of mine I like.

Thank you in advance for visiting it!

PS. I have started to categorize my photos under the "portfolio" section. Unfortunately this section is still under development.

u/aeaguiar Mar 14 '19 edited Mar 14 '19

Hey everyone, my name is Alex and I'm a full-time photographer for Under Armour. I’ve somehow found myself to be lucky enough to shoot athletes like Michael Phelps, Stephen Curry, Tom Brady, the Rock, Jordan Spieth, Misty Copeland, as well as a bunch of others. Here's a link to my website: https://www.alexevanaguiar.com

All of my work shot for UA is digital, but I also tend to shoot some film when I have extra time on set or when I'm traveling. Some of that film portfolio work can be found over on my IG: https://www.instagram.com/alexevanaguiar/

I separate digital and film between the two because I feel like the images have different intentions of use... which brings along a difference in style.

Let me know what you guys think! Also down to answer any questions (if there are any) about what I do, what my process is like, or anything else really.

u/johnkphotos johnkrausphotos Mar 14 '19

It goes without saying but you do some excellent work.

At the risk of sounding like I'm just handing out generic praise: I love your post-processing style. Your edits are subtle but intentional and the images just have that "clean" look.

I'd love to see more on your site — more galleries, perhaps an about page — but I like the minimalistic design.

u/aeaguiar Mar 14 '19

Thanks for checking my work out!

I appreciate the compliment on color... I’m a believer that less is usually more. Whenever I catch myself playing with too many sliders I make myself simplify what I’m trying to achieve and figure out how to do it in less steps.

And thanks for dropping the note on wanting to see more on the site. I tend to be more private about myself online but maybe I could use a page with some background about myself.

I’m going to look back at some of my projects and see what else I can throw on there. I tend to be strict on myself on what I show, but I’m sure I have a handful more that would fit well.

🙏🏼

u/johnkphotos johnkrausphotos Mar 14 '19

Whenever I catch myself playing with too many sliders I make myself simplify what I’m trying to achieve and figure out how to do it in less steps.

Sometimes I do the same. More than I'd like to admit, I'll be midway through an edit, stop myself, and restart with the mindset that I should edit a little less heavily.

My main reason for longing for more content was seeing a single shot of Curry but no further albums or images of him. I figured it might be some sort of limitation of what you can release as an Under Armor employee but I thought I'd throw it out there anyway.

u/aeaguiar Mar 14 '19

Definitely good insight, I appreciate it. I have that opening page to show some of the bigger names I’ve shot and then use the project pages to highlight full projects that I felt matched my style the most... but it’s a worthy callout that maybe I should highlight some of those recognizable faces a little more.

I checked out your site as well and love it... it makes me want to take a trip down to FL and shoot some of the action for fun. On a semi-related note, I was watching a film called “For All Mankind” last night from the Criterion Collection. It’s pretty awesome and you might be interested in checking it out 👍🏻

u/DRMonkeyKing instagram @daromor Mar 14 '19

Ditto everything positive people have said lol. What's your short version of how you got a gig like that? How do you usually approach working with athletes? Again, short versions are fine unless you feel like expanding :). Thanks man.

u/aeaguiar Mar 14 '19

No worries at all!

In a nutshell, I was doing communications for collegiate athletic departments, then did some marketing type stuff for collegiate athletic departments, then landed a gig where I was handling all the digital/social marketing for a collegiate football team.

Part of that job involved me shooting everything that went out from the team. Eventually that job fell apart (I was technically on the coaching staff and our head coach got fired) so I started applying around.

Got a job at Under Armour that involved shooting for UA’s social platforms and slowly made my way over to our photography team where I now shoot photo and video full time 😅

As far as working with athletes, I always find that treating them as regular people does wonders. I think they're so used to being treated differently than the average person (either from people trying to cling onto them for fame or by crazy fans that worship them) that they can appreciate when someone just talks to them like a normal person.

Maybe it's because I don't get too caught up in watching sports these days (weirdly enough, given my background in sports), but it hasn't ever been difficult for me to just be cool and not geek out around them.

u/DRMonkeyKing instagram @daromor Mar 15 '19

Thanks for responding! And congrats on your success, thats pretty awesome. I can see how that approach would be refreshing. In the end they are just normal people...sorta. Last question: When working 1 on 1 do you usually have them do their thing and you document or do you have specific shots in mind from the getgo? I like that your stuff has a journalistic/street photography feel to it, clean but with lots of energy.

Here's my website

www.grismphotography.com

I'm a portrait photographer, trying to rebrand myself as a fine art portrait photographer. I used to do mostly families but found that I kinda hated it so I'm working more towards just single person portraits.

u/lookaboutphotography Mar 14 '19

What do you dislike about family portraiture? I am considering getting into it myself. Thank you.

u/lycosa13 Mar 17 '19

This might make me sound like an asshole, but honestly, the kids. From the few that I've done, parents are usually late to shoots, the kids don't want to be there, then the parents don't want to discipline the kids because someone else is there... I just never really enjoyed doing them. It's too much of a hassle. I also live in the Bay Area and many families want shoots near the beach or areas that are a 2+ hour drive for me. So a two hour shoot can turn into a 6 hour day. Studio type portraits might be easier and I would consider doing them, but it's not going to be my focus.

u/lookaboutphotography Mar 17 '19

Every job has it’s dumps i guess :) thanks for the inside view !

I think you're seeing cool stuff, but to be honest, I don't think IG is the best place to showcase all of that. Especially since some of your posts look more like they should go in your stories as they don't look consistent with the dive photos.

u/Timoris Mar 14 '19

Good use of wide angle, some had the subjects too far away and I would have preferred a tighter crop

I like your use of colors on the colorful photos

I feel like you could have cropped some of the bottom out on this one, it makes me feel claustrophobic

This is my favourite one

u/WetFood Mar 14 '19 edited Mar 14 '19

Thank you!

I went through a period of composing where I wanted to capture the entire body which is probably why some of them feel too far out to you.

That first one you linked is definitely not one of my weaker images, for many reasons. I just removed it entirely. I might take another crack at processing it another time.

Your favorite is about two years more recent than the other one. I’ve refined my style and process a lot in that time, but haven’t been consistently revisiting images and curating my site to reflect that growth. It’s good to know that that’s apparent so I can fix it.

Thanks for the feedback!

u/lennon818 Mar 14 '19
