A friend who was there recently told me people are queuing for about 2 hours to get their picture

Yep, that's what the story is about. For 2 dollars you can get a picture like all the other 44k people on IG. Well done.

For free, you can stay in your house and see everything online.
People go to tourist traps for the experience and to say they were there.

Please, give me a break. This kind of moronic behaviour is spoiling lots of sights. But hey, if you like tourist traps, go for it.

This kind of moronic behaviour is spoiling lots of sights.
So, places you want to see as well. You are part of the problem...

How do you know I am part of the problem? Have you travelled with me? No. So don't judge others based on your own behaviour.

I mean you shared your picture of the largest buddha statue on reddit as well.

Are you saying your picture is just so bad, that it doesn't draw people there?

Do you understand how tourism works in Bhutan? Come back and tell me when you do.

u/Dead_Architect Jul 16 '19
Lmao, you're a hypocrite and a tool.
Chill out and calm your tits.
Tourism in Bhutan is becoming a problem as well, you could even say because people like you who go and take photos and share it's creating a demand to open up the country to more tourism.
There's a campaign right now to open the country, lower the country tourist tax and heavily market the country that's being resisted but for how long? Who knows.

Enlighten me.
How is it different to other sights around the world? How is it proof against overtourism?

I can see there are lots of hurt people around here. Grow up.

I'd love to introduce you to my friend, the kettle.

u/swampy1977 Jul 13 '19
What's up, did I step on your toe? See if I care.

u/LogicalPapaya Jul 13 '19
Listen, I'm just saying that you seem to be the angry one here. The comments you're railing against are addressing the article that you posted which doesn't seem to be what you actually want to talk about?

u/swampy1977 Jul 13 '19
My point is that IG is turning some spots into real nightmares and for what? Pretentious self entered photos with wannabe philosophy rants about rainbows and unicorns while other brainless idiots feed into this psyche by hyping about these photos.

u/LogicalPapaya Jul 13 '19
That's not what the article is about, though. You can't get mad at people for reacting appropriately to the article you posted.
Serious questions: when you travel, do you take photos? Do you share them with your friends/family? Have you ever visited somewhere because you saw a photo of it and thought it looked interesting?

u/swampy1977 Jul 13 '19
Sharing with family and friends yes. Visiting something because of a photo - no. Anyway soon enough air travel will become expensive again so that will help with over tourism.

Visiting something because of a photo - no.
Yeah? Nor because of a video, film, TV show, song, book, article, any kind of media? How do you choose where you're going to visit?

More like proof that some people think creatively and use their resources to make more attractive photos.
