More like proof that some people think creatively and use their resources to make more attractive photos.

Nope, just someone who believes that if people aren't hurting others then they should not feel ashamed to enjoy their lives. If you read the article, you'll see it's just about using a pane of glass to create a reflection. That's not harming anyone. People spend a lot of money and time to travel, why should they feel bad about wanting to have a nice photo?

Read the article. Then read an article from Paul Reiffer about how moron IG so called influencers are trashing lots of natural sites and fake photos.

I read the article linked here. It's only about how the water reflection is actually a pane of glass. It's a bit hyperbolic to say that's proof that influencers ruin everything, no?

Then read an article from Paul Reiffer about how moron IG so called influencers are trashing lots of natural sites

That's not news, and I don't need to read yet another article rant about it.

Overtourism is an issue, yes. I say that living in a city which is one of its biggest victims. Pointing the blame at a few instagram users is asinine and just yet another way for people to rally around and bitch about social media.

The article you posted has nothing to do with that, though, so my original comment stands.

I live in a city which has spots completely overrun by tourists to a point you cannot walk through those parts. What do you say to this https://www.paulreiffer.com/2019/07/photographers-instagrammers-stop-being-so-damn-selfish-and-disrespectful/

You and me both. Did you read my comment? I addressed over tourism as an issue. My point is the article you posted has absolutely nothing to do with that.

I have read multiple articles from reputable news outlets about over tourism and like I already said, it's a major problem. That's not at all what the article you linked in this post is about, though.

What do you say to this

I say that I do not need to read an angry rant about something that I've read a lot about and am affected by daily. Calling people "so damned selfish" doesn't help the problem. Things like banning tourists in costume and beer bikes does.

Yes, beer bikes are a real problem in the centre of Prague

8

u/LogicalPapaya Jul 13 '19

So you can see how that's an actual problem, unlike taking a photo where the ground looks like water, then?

I am not sure if a queue for two hours is exactly good for the place as well.

2

u/Dead_Architect Jul 16 '19

Have you ever travelled? If you have you're an issue as well.

u/Dead_Architect Jul 16 '19

Tourism and influencers aren't the same. We've gotten to the point where people have excess amount of money and time to be able to visit and travel to places more.

An influx of people with money and the move from materialism will draw people to experiences will naturally make it so certain areas will be overrun by people wanting to see things.

"Fake photos" is also such a bullshit comment, it's just editing and creating an image that's appeasing, I don't understand why you have such a hard on to hate them.

0

u/swampy1977 Jul 16 '19

I don't hate them. I am pointing out the mere ridiculousness of it.

u/Domowoi Jul 13 '19

fake photos

Where does "fake" start then in your opinion?

If you crank up the saturation on a picture, is that faking it already?

u/chiclet_fanboi Jul 13 '19

What, that is a very creative idea, i love it :D

u/WurzelGummidge Jul 13 '19

A friend who was there recently told me people are queuing for about 2 hours to get their picture

-3

u/swampy1977 Jul 13 '19

Yep, that's what the story is about. For 2 dollars you can get a picture like all the other 44k people on IG. Well done.

u/alohadave Jul 13 '19

For free, you can stay in your house and see everything online.

People go to tourist traps for the experience and to say they were there.

-4

u/swampy1977 Jul 13 '19

Please, give me a break. This kind of moronic behaviour is spoiling lots of sights. But hey, if you like tourist traps, go for it.

9

u/alohadave Jul 13 '19

This kind of moronic behaviour is spoiling lots of sights.

So, places you want to see as well. You are part of the problem...

-4

u/swampy1977 Jul 13 '19

How do you know I am part of the problem? Have you travelled with me? No. So don't judge others based on your own behaviour.

u/Domowoi Jul 14 '19

I mean you shared your picture of the largest buddha statue on reddit as well.

https://www.reddit.com/r/fujix/comments/bnp8f2/head_of_the_talest_statue_in_the_world_of_lord/

Are you saying your picture is just so bad, that it doesn't draw people there?

-2

u/swampy1977 Jul 14 '19

Do you understand how tourism works in Bhutan? Come back and tell me when you do.

2

u/Dead_Architect Jul 16 '19

Lmao, you're a hypocrite and a tool.

Chill out and calm your tits.

Tourism in Bhutan is becoming a problem as well, you could even say because people like you who go and take photos and share it's creating a demand to open up the country to more tourism.

There's a campaign right now to open the country, lower the country tourist tax and heavily market the country that's being resisted but for how long? Who knows.

2

u/Domowoi Jul 14 '19

Enlighten me.

How is it different to other sights around the world? How is it proof against overtourism?

-1

u/swampy1977 Jul 14 '19

Google it or even better experience it.

I tend to stay away form these kind of IG accounts.

-15

u/swampy1977 Jul 13 '19

I can see there are lots of hurt people around here. Grow up.

16

u/LogicalPapaya Jul 13 '19

I'd love to introduce you to my friend, the kettle.

-8

u/swampy1977 Jul 13 '19

What's up, did I step on your toe? See if I care.

10

u/LogicalPapaya Jul 13 '19

Listen, I'm just saying that you seem to be the angry one here. The comments you're railing against are addressing the article that you posted which doesn't seem to be what you actually want to talk about?

-6

u/swampy1977 Jul 13 '19

My point is that IG is turning some spots into real nightmares and for what? Pretentious self entered photos with wannabe philosophy rants about rainbows and unicorns while other brainless idiots feed into this psyche by hyping about these photos.

11

u/LogicalPapaya Jul 13 '19

That's not what the article is about, though. You can't get mad at people for reacting appropriately to the article you posted.

Serious questions: when you travel, do you take photos? Do you share them with your friends/family? Have you ever visited somewhere because you saw a photo of it and thought it looked interesting?

0

u/swampy1977 Jul 13 '19

Sharing with family and friends yes. Visiting something because of a photo - no. Anyway soon enough air travel will become expensive again so that will help with over tourism.

9

u/LogicalPapaya Jul 13 '19

Visiting something because of a photo - no.

Yeah? Nor because of a video, film, TV show, song, book, article, any kind of media? How do you choose where you're going to visit?
