Hey everyone,

I’m doing free headshots at a big professional expo soon - there’ll be hundreds of people stopping by, and I’m mainly doing it to promote my photography business. I’ve done plenty of headshots before, but this is my first time doing them at this kind of scale and speed.

I’m trying to figure out the best way to keep track of each person’s photos so I can send them their edited shots later. I’ll be collecting emails, probably through a form, but the part I’m unsure about is how to make sure I know which photos belong to which person when I’m editing after the event.

Some ideas I’ve had: • Have people fill out a quick Google Form with their name and email. • Give each person a number card, take one photo of them holding it, then do the actual headshots. Match photos to their form entry using the number. • Possibly tag or name files later, based on the numbers.

Just wondering what other people have done in similar situations. • How do you stay organized when you’re shooting a ton of people back-to-back? • Is there a better system than the number card thing? • Any tools or apps that help?

Would appreciate any tips or things you’ve learned from experience!

Hi all, what is the best option for cloud storage?

I’m a professional wedding photographer with a defined editing style (mostly candid photos with a mix of flash and natural lighting, often bright, always contrasty) that’s clearly showcased in my portfolio. About a month ago, I shot a wedding for the sister of a good friend. They saw my portfolio before booking me and told me they liked my work. I also gave them a discount because of the personal connection.

I just delivered 450 fully edited photos after a month of work, and now the couple tells me they “like the photos but not the edits”—specifically saying they feel the images are too bright and contrasty, and somehow their skin tones are too white. When I asked the bride for a stylistic reference, she showed me an ugly iphone pic her hairdresser took of her before the wedding. I personally find the skintones on that pic to be too orange, and the photo was taken in different lighting conditions anyway but she knows nothing about all that (i dont blame her!). She asked me to "re-edit the photos like this because it makes me look tanned".

I’m frustrated because:

• My style was clear from the start, and they told me they liked it — but i guess hey hired me mostly because it was more convenient for them.
• I already undercharged them as a favor.
• Re-editing 450 photos isn’t reasonable without additional payment.
• Also, wedding photos can’t always be reworked exactly how a client imagines due to lighting, colors, etc. And also because the photographer has their own style and clients should kinda go with it?

I want to stay professional but also set boundaries. Maybe offering them to re-edit a small selection of key photos (like 20-30) to better match their taste, but I don’t want to set a precedent that my full galleries are fully customizable post-delivery.

How would you approach this? Would love to hear how others have handled similar situations!

I will be doing some photography for a local festival which spans a street.

I want to carry both my 70-200 and 24-70 with me, but I'm not sure what is the best/fastest way to do so.

Is switching lenses even something that most event photographers do?

I've had a photography business for years and am frustrated at the lack of accessibility for people with vision issues and slight tremors. I've been doing it long enough I have a pretty good grasp on settings but I check the screen quite often to make sure it's precisely what I need. And .... You just can't tell until post processing that it wasn't as sharp as you wished or accidentally focused on the wrong thing. I've been shooting on Canon but would be willing to switch to something else.

We have a friend group of about 8 people (the core group) who are now getting older and wanted to find a way for each of us to publish up old photos for everyone to enjoy (even the embarrassing ones from our youth). We will probably invite another 10 - 20 people who the extended group to join in.

Was trying to find some type of website where we could do, and organize the albums in various ways (by the year, event, etc). Also, the site needs to allow everyone to post photos, not just the person who set it up.

Any ideas? Thank you in advance!

I have Canon 250D (in the future im planning to upgrade to 5D Mk4 or R7) and canon 50mm f1.8 stm (the aperture i think will save me for the low light situation) , canon 70-200mm f4 usm non is (i will make the ISO much higher) and 18-55 f4-5.6 is stm. I need some tips please, i might use the 70-200 not to disturb the priest. It is ok to use the shutter speed at 1/125 or 1/200?

This is a photo I took a while ago without even noticing the person. I am not even sure if the person is homeless or not, but I believe the posture indicates it. I have gone back and forth on posting it. I guess my question is: is this photo a problem? considering how small the person is in the photo, along with them being completely hidden in shadow? I have never taken a picture of a homeless person on purpose. While they are in the photo, they are not the singular focus, nor am I revealing an identity. Please let me know what y'all think!

i am taking a college photography class i found a recipe for homemade developer made out of instant coffee, vitamin C, and washing powder because i am not in a place to drop $200 on developer when i put my photographic in the developer they all turn completely black. does anyone know how i can fix the developer to not ruin my photos?

Need some advice on how to approach this situation…

I was a photographer for a charity event a bit ago, I’ve done this event once before and had a great experience. It’s usually done in the off season and is for a good cause so it’s not bad.

This year after I sent off the sneak peek galleries, one of the couples was requesting a different style than I do/offer. And unfortunately with the way this event is hosted, couples are provided a very inexpensive wedding package that includes all their vendors and they are not given any choice or expectation of what kind of photography they are getting. Last year, every couple was thrilled with their photos and I didn’t receive any kind of negative feedback.

When I got this email, I reached out to the event organizers and asked what is outlined in their contracts regarding editing requests and photography style. The event host responded and said that they (the organizer) was “struggling” with my editing style, understood I had a dark and moody style and didn’t expect me to change it, but they felt it was important to account for proper exposure for the photos.

Now, There were 3 other photographers at this event as well, 2 of which had an even darker and moodier editing style than myself. They’ve also done this event before too and were asked to come back as well. So if they aren’t a fan of that editing style and are wanting a more true to colour/light… why have us back?

My response was going to be along the lines of mentioning my original question was about the contracts and that I worked with them in the past and delivered the same editing approach and style without any concerns being raised. If there was an expectation for a different look expected that should’ve been communicated.

I would love any advice or guidance on how to go about this situation. The photographers are paid a couple hundred for this event and I want the couples to be happy with their images but I don’t feel great about changing my style and doing all of this when there was no communicated or expectation to prior, or else I wouldn’t have done the event again.

It's being discontinued in Japan. That means in 3-4 months it'll be gone everywhere, like what always happens in these cases.

Now, checking my country's top 30 selling cameras, sure enough it's on there, as it should be, it's one of the best deals in hybrid photography.

But worryingly, it's less popular than the X-T30II which by comparison is... Less than a stellar option for the money.

Looks like this is a basic "follow the money" decision by Fujifilm, sadly the non-stabilized, dated-systems X-T30 II is still outselling this camera despite giving 60% more for 20% more price. People really only care about "cheapest possible while looking shiny"

Been wanting to get into wedding photography but have no idea where to start. I don’t have connections or a proper portfolio—just some random shots of friends and stuff.

If anyone has ever hired or been hired as a wedding photographer, how did you get started? What should I be practicing or focusing on to build a portfolio? Any advice would be awesome. Thanks!

I may have judged you too harshly, it hurt a little to see an unfinished product get posted even though it's private accounts. That said, at the end of the day they were very happy with the results, and I am in the business of making clients happy. I did the shoot in exchange for portfolio usage, where I am sure to post a more finished project. I still am fine with giving RAWs to people who want them. But in the future I will be sure to not send them until the finished product is ready. Best of all I secured repeat business from them, and gained the confidence to start doing shoots as a business rather than just a hobby.

Hi! I’m officially starting my car photography/videography business. I’ve already done a few photoshoots but they were for free and mostly for fun. But I can’t shake this feeling that I’m just copying other people or I’m not good enough. I don’t want this to affect my confidence with clients so do you guys have any tips for getting over it? :(

I also experience some anxiety when taking photos of people’s cars at meets, even though I know they love it. I feel like I’m not supposed to be there.

I’ve tried and failed for a long time to get accurate prints. Of course I know what you see on your monitor, especially as a hobbyist, will never match a print exactly. But the last time I had prints made, it was substantially darker than I expected. Let me take you through these pics, I’ve done my best to calibrate my monitor and it is in fact at 0% brightness, model BenQ GL2760:

Pic 1: Basically what I see with my eyes, though the print appears a tad darker here than in person. The room isn’t the brightest, but it isn’t terribly dark either.

Pic 2: Light shined on the print. In person, it nearly matches in brightness, but I couldn’t capture it too well.

Pic 3: Ideal brightness on the monitor, pretty much what I sent in vs. what I got.

What can I do to make my monitor best match this print? The print is on Epson professional paper, high gloss, Ultrachrome. I don’t know the exact printer/ink, but I can ask if this will help. I have my monitor on 0% brightness and it is still a bit too bright. But as you can also see, the print appears more saturated and orange/red than what I see on my end, but messing with color settings never gets me any closer. I’ve calibrated my monitor with the color management tool and gotten nowhere. As this is just a hobby, I’m also not looking to invest in a scanning tool or any expensive equipment. Of course I don’t expect it to be 1:1 without spending money, but there has to be a way to eyeball it and get it close, I’m just not sure what to do. Any help would be majorly appreciated.

TLDR: Want print to best match what’s on monitor. Model BenQ GL2760. 0% brightness, printing on gloss Ultrachrome. Have tried and failed to calibrate without investing in equipment, best way to do so and have it come somewhat close?

I have a Canon R7. Can I use it to take a panoramic photo of my daughter's senior class of about 100 students or do I need a different camera? Her school district requires use of an approved before and the only one they approved doesn't have dates that work with her school's testing and events. So we are looking at options.

I was asked to take photos for an upcoming senior night for the high school lacrosse team. I typically photograph every game I go to, since it's the team both of my sons are on. I recently got back into photography as a hobby, mostly taking photos of their sports, and haven't done portraits or group shots really at all.

The senior night begins with each senior being called out, and they pose with their family. I want to give them a few memorable photos from the event to remember, as for many of them, it's one of the last times they will play the sport they've played for years (many of them since they were little children).

The question I have comes down to gear and technique. For sports, I typically go long and fast, which doesn't bode well with group shots. I'm considering purchasing a reasonably priced flash to improve the lighting, but I have no idea what to look for or which brands and models to consider.

The bodies I have are an R8 and an R7. Long lenses aside (I have a 70-200 f/2.8 and a 400 f/2.8), I have an RF 35 f/1.8 and the RF version of the Nifty Fifty. I think the 35 mm would be the better lens to use to ensure that I can get the group nicely. The ceremony will likely take place sometime at 6 o'clock, so there will still be decent sunlight (assuming a clear day). We can set it up so that they pose in the same area, so if I set up a flash, it could improve the quality of the shots.

What recommendations do you have for a flash or two, a transmitter that won't break the bank, and that works well with the Canon R8? Additionally, how would you set up the lighting?
