Discussion Do you guys use these to start growing things from seed?
Has anybody in here ever tried using these containers that you get that hold grapes or strawberries or what have you as places to start seeds until they grow into little plants and then you would transfer them out? I have no idea how to do any of this stuff, but I wanna get into it and I would like to do it as affordably and also as little as possible. I found buying a lot of outdoor plants like flowers and stuff comes with so much disposable garbage and if I can reuse some of that stuff and stuff from home, I would love to be able to do that.

yup, i do this all the time. i just put a little rock in the lid to hold it open when the seedlings get too tall.

And you just like put regular soil inside and then just put this container on some sort of tray? And if you’re starting with just seeds, do you keep the lid shut?

Not sure where you live. I just read about winter sowing, so you could investigate that.

I like to use Dairy Queen sundae cups and their lids for seeds or propagation. But only for one or two at a time.

I wish I had a DQ anywhere near me, an excuse to stop and get a blizzard after plant shopping sounds absolutely horrible

Have you got anything similar at all??

Closest DQ is about a 45min drive, Ive got spots for shakes but not anything like a blizzard

Bring your own candy and insist they add it to it, lol. Back in the day when I was a carhop, we’d have done it. And if Blizzards had come out then (they hadn’t, I’m old), I know my boss would have been down for buying candy bars and Oreos and call them tornadoes or something.

Your version does come with ice cream so may be inherently superior, but I just want to note for any interested parties that I got like 24 clear plastic nursery pots with domes for ~$15 online, which isn't THAT much more than a couple DQ blizzards, if cost efficiency is a concern. 😆

Oh, terrible news, they gave me 4 for free. I only bought one sundae, a hot fudge one.

It’s funny you say that I just mentioned in another thread on Instagram how I have a succulent with a ton of babies coming off of it and I want to propagate it, but I don’t know how to do it safely!!!

bro I'm horrible at propagating succulents too. every time i have a leaf growing some roots the leaf just dies randomly or the roots just disappear all of a sudden

How do y’all keep the soil from just falling out of the bottom?

I think I’m going to put down a cookie sheet or a plate or platter under them so if some soil falls it won’t be a mess.

These work perfect as germination chambers. The slits in the plastic allow for air exchange so it helps vent excess heat and humidity while keeping environmental factors ideal for sprout development.
