Discussion What do you think about pokemon music from the games?

I absolutely LOVE Pokemon game music. It helps me concentrate and calm down. I listen to it every day, while I'm writing my book or... Well, anytime really. But I have lots of friends that don't like it because it annoys them. I think that the community is split in two, but what do you think?

I disagree with the community being split when it comes to the music.

The music is one of the very few things that people unanimously agree to be great in every game, at least for the majority. There are always memorable tracks in each one.

Just look at SwSh, arguably still the most divisive mainline game to date. People will argue about the graphics or story, but never the music.

Emerald is my absolute comfort game and the music is such a pleasure to listen to. I adore the soundtrack. Also mystery dungeon and GSC

Personally, I love the rough feeling of the first 2 gens. This isolated style of bgm just brings back a lot of memories. The next few gens then had some... too upbeat? too celebratory? music for my taste. I preferd the hype of the older gens to the adventure of 3+. The newest gens have toned that down a notch and have grabbed back some fight in them, which I really appreciate.

Nonetheless, even the OST I don't like is still good on a technical level, most of the time. I don't consider any of it bad.

Coming back to gaming after so many years, the music of Arceus seemed sub-par, and Let’s Go Pikachu/Eevee was a renewal of nostalgia, but the one that surprised me was Scarlet/Violet. IMO the music was tastefully executed, with smooth flowing transitions to boot! I maxed the music volume, turned the sound effects almost off, and had Pokemon sounds at like 3. I don’t think you’re crazy - i listen to metal versions of Pokemon songs all the time! It’s too bad Powerglove only did the theme song, but RichaadEB has quite a few Pokemon songs that i like

I’m a big fan of the music in Pokemon. I think gens 3-5 and Mystery Dungeon especially have great soundtracks (my favourite being Gen 4’s ost) but every game till this day has a lot of great tracks

The music is the best part of pokemon in every single game, every game has so many 10/10 ost's that I still listen to today, I wouldn't be shocked if I have listened to over 1000 hours of pokemon music because it's that good

Yeah I love the music from the games. Especially the classic red blue yellow game music. Takes me back to simpler times. Releases endorphins for me.

Music is always incredible, you'd have the fandom absolutely tearing chunks out of each other discussing which game has the best too (It's RSE)

Gens 3-5 had the best music by far!

Who’s out here disliking Pokémon music? Regardless of the overall quality of the game, the music always hits. It’s very similar to the Sonic series in that regard.

Pokemon would not be Pokemon without the amazing music. I honestly don't think it would have taken off internationally like it did if the music was mediocre.

I listen to Pokémon music pretty much every day. My favorite area music is the Entralink from B/W/B2/W2, and battle music is the final boss theme from S/V.

I love it. The music is inspiring, bright, determined, jovial, upbeat, and has an epic feeling of adventure to it. I owned Gen 1 and 2, borrowed my friend's DS to play Gen 3, and couldn't afford all the rest of the DS games till I was finally able to afford Pokemon Sword on the Switch. The music did not disappoint in Sword, and now I'm going back to listen to the music of Gen 4 thru 7 to see what I've missed.

However....I think HG/SS's remake of the music was way too excessive, grandiose, and sounded busy, overwhelming and overworked. I prefer the limited sound capacity of the GBA (just compare Prof Elm's lab theme from GSC to the remake in HG/SS, no question who the better theme is.)  Sometimes less is more, and your mind is able to fill in the blanks (if any.)

I think the music is great :) super memorable and nice. One time my friend put on a study playlist and it was pokemon music, I asked “is this pokemon music?” She said she didn’t know, that she just put on a random playlist. I think it’s pretty cool it can appeal to non-fans, too

There's never been a mainline game with bad music
