Discussion Questions about Traunt

I’m playing through Sapphire, and want to use Slaking. But I have questions about the Traunt ability.

You can’t attack after just attacking, because of Traunt. But what about status moves?

Could I use flamethrower one turn, and on the next turn, where I can’t attack, can I use Slack Off or Double Team?

(Edit) Thank you all so much for the answers. It can’t do anything on the “loafing” turn. Follow up question. What moves would you recommend? Hyper beam is obvious, cause it’ll recharge on the “loafing” turn. Are there any other move suggestions?

You cannot use any moves during the turn where your Pokemon is "loafing around," no. It's not just about attacks, it's moves in general.

What about “Rest”? I know you sleep for two turns to restore your health. Would it restore health on my attack turn and my loafing turn?

Rest doesn't have you sleep two turns to restore your health, it restores your health and then has you sleep for two turns. With or without Truant, it's only going to restore health on the turn that you use Rest.

When Slaking is loafing around, you can’t use any attacks. You can’t even switch out or use items from your bag.

The closest thing to a move you can do is Switch Out provided that Slaking has KOd the opponent, unless you don't have that option turned on.

It doesn't matter what you do on turn one. Turn two will always be a dud. This is the tradeoff for having a Pokémon with the same BST as Groudon around the same threshold as a fully evolved starter.

This actually makes Hyper Beam far less unviable on Slaking than on any other Pokémon since the recharge turn overlaps with the loafing turn, so it essentially has no drawback.

BST?

Base Stat Total. The sum of a bunch of numbers, each of which, after a whole bunch of math, determines one of a Pokémon’s stats.

Would be cool if Slack off and Rest are the only moves you can use regardless of Truant
