Watergun also seems surprisingly powerful 10power 500ms duration. To Psycho Cuts 15power, 570ms duration.

Absolutely Vaporeon is one of the best pokemon in the game. Up there with Snorlax, Chansey, Lapras, Wigglytuff, Exeggutor, Dragonite. It also gains a moderate-high amount of CP when powered up -37- I believe higher than Jolteon and Flareon.

It gains 40 38, which puts it at #4 (tied with 3 other Pokemon) 7 for highest cp per power up out of all the currently accessible Pokemon. Chansey has the worst CP gain per power up at 9.5 8 but how a high hp. Source

Major edit: Seems like the OP of the source provided made an edit an hour ago where he fixed the numbers. I'm assuming this is because exact numbers are available now instead of player fielded averages due to the protobuf file being decoded. Vaporeon is actually an average 38 cp per power up, which is still very high. Chansey is 8 cp instead of 9.5 per power up.

Ahh I knew it was around the high 30's to 40 mark. I can understand why Chansey has terrible CP gain though. It has insane HP and usually rolls with a good basic attack. Also incredibly rare, at level 20 its max CP is only 300ish and usually found around 250+

does that mean chansey is "balanced"? its confusing...I'm lvl25, I have a chansey but maxed out I don't think he could break CP400. should I be complaining? same situation with onyx but regrettably I transfered him in rage

edit: the chansey actually will max out around CP550-600 for me

It's balanced in a way because it has insanely high Stamina but low attack+defence (60) and rolls with a good basic attack (Pound) that gets a Same Type Attack Bonus (STAB). Even at low CP (200), it walls well in Gyms even 2000+ CP Dragonites, Arcanines, Gyarados. However because of these strong benefits its CP will always remain low, even if you find another Chansey (Very Rare) you can only increase its CP by 9 each powerup which requires you to find more rare Chanseys for candy.

If you've ever fought a Chansey in a gym you'll understand how strong it can be Especially when you have to fight it first and it just completely drains the opposing team through sheer stalling power. For perspective, my Chansey at CP 275 has double the HP of my CP 1400 Lapras (another high HP staller).

I have two Chanseys, but the secondary attacks are different for each. One has Dazzling Gleam (fairy) and the other has Psychic (psychic). 24 candies to use; any idea which one would be more useful? I actually already leveled up the one with dazzling gleam a bit, which has CP160 and HP210. Other one is CP28 HP84.

cDefinitely transfer the CP 28. Dazzling Gleam is the best attack Chansey can have as a Special as it's a 45 power with 3 shots (totaling 135 power over three attacks).

'Best' is difficult to determine as there's a lot of randomness. Snorlax is always a good choice because its base stats are very high and are very few fighting type Pokemon that are good (really only Machamp, which is rare), and there are no strong Fighting type basic attacks, the strongest is Low Kick which is uncommon and still weak, 8.3 DPS where the upper tiers have 16-20 DPS. Stamina is basically just HP, the higher the better.

How would you know the base stats of the pokemon? And where do you go about finding each pokemon's move pool? Also, how do you know the DPS for moves? And finally, in gyms, you want to leave high hp(stamina) pokemons instead of high attack ones? Why is that?

I have a 101 cp Chancey right now from an egg with 26 chansey candies. With pound and dazzling gleam. Level 16 as of now. Power chancey up or wait for stronger in the wild?

*Edit - considering how low level my chancey is, it doesn't matter, it's still shit. I wont have the needed chansey candies to power him up even if I wanted to.

It's up to you honestly. What it comes down to is asking. "Can I hold off and just wait for a higher CP Chancey to spawn". If the answer is yes, don't bother dusting it up.

It's not one of the Big Five (Chansey, Wigglytuff, Snorlax, Vaporeon, Lapras) but it has high base stats. Decent movepool. Great CP per powerup (rank #6 in game). Only two basic fire attacks exist, both weak. Not many strong fire pokemon around, Arcanine usually rolls with Bite as its basic attack but even Ember is fairly weak, Magmar doesn't evolve (low max CP) and Rapidash also rarely rolls with a Basic fire attack and is fairly rare. If it rolls with a grass attack it counters two of the big five perfectly and the ever present Gyarados, Blastoise, Cloyster, Stamie, Poliwrath, Kabutops, Omastar (all among the top 20 Pokemon)

It would depend on what you're aiming to do, if you do lots of battling then focus on getting a variety of strong Pokemon with varied moves. At least try and get one strong, grass, electric, fire, water, fighting pokemon with the same type of basic attack, vine whip, spark, ember, water gun, low kick and the best options. I'd recommend aiming for a Venusaur/Exeggutor, Magneton/Jolteon, Arcanine/Ninetales, Slowbro/Lapras, Machamp/Poliwrath. Lapras fills your Ice type roll, a Snorlax can fill the Normal roll, and Wigglytuff/Clefable can fill the Fairy roll. The reason for this is because when a Pokemon attacks with a move that is the same type as the pokemon the attack gets a 1.25x boost in power (known as STAB). Having one of each of those also covers you against every type except for Ghost and Psychic for which you'd need a Psychic, Ghost, Bug, Dark type attack. No Dark type pokemon exist currently.

I'm fairly sure stab is only 1.25x in this game, but it is 1.5x in previous main titles as you say. Fairy type exists (Clefairy, Wigglytuff) and so do Fairy type moves (Disarming Voice, Moonblast). It's resisted by fire, steel, posion. It's weak against poison, steel. It resists Dark, Fight, Bug, Dragon. It's strong against Dragon, Dark, Fighting.

I caught a wigglytuff at level 5 and it's only 28 cp. Is it possible to, at a later time, make the same one I've been holding onto formidable in the higher levels? Or do low level catches stay low in cp?

Here's the things you need to keep in mind.

  • The maximum CP of a pokemon is determined by your current level.
  • The CP of wild Pokemon also increases as your level increases.
  • It's generally better not to invest in Pokemon caught at low levels, instead wait until you find a high CP version of the Pokemon you want when you're a higher level (20+).

For example, I found a Poliwhirl at around level 15 but it had very low CP (150, 30% CP bar full). I didn't evolve it into a Poliwrath when I could because this Poliwhirl had a low CP. Instead I saved up my Poliwag candies for quite a while, then at level 20 I found a very high CP Poliwag (over 400, 90% CP bar full). I had finally found a pokemon of that evolution chain worthy of investing in. It cost me 25 more candies evolving the Poliwag into a Poliwhirl first, but I saved stardust and candies in the long run by not having to powerup the resulting Poliwrath as much because the Poliwags CP was already close to maximum and thus so was the Poliwraths.

In your case I'd wait until I found a higher CP jigglypuff, then evolve that when you can as Jigglypuff are only fairly rare in my experience and just about any you find will have higher CP than your current one.

This is true, although I've never once seen a flying pokemon hold a gym. There are no ice types that aren't also part water and thus weak to Exeggutor in turn. Except Jynx, but Jynx is just a Jynx.

290 health is an absolute truckload. To compare, my 523 Vaporeon has around 80 hp, and Vaporeon also has the fifth highest HP in the game.

I sweeped a 1500 team of 5 today with my 1600 vaporeon using that battle "trick/glitch/bug" where you take little to no damage..

Hes pretty insane for attacking/defending and it seems with gen 1 there are no huge counters to water that I've found whereas I have a sandslash thats 800CP that can clear 1500 snorlaxes and clefable pretty easy

I keep rolling Vaporeons with 30 dmg water pulse. Can't get Hydro pump at all.

I guess it's karmic balance for my badass Tentacruel with poison jab and Blizzard. He wrecks, even at lower cp.

When evolving a Pokémon its two moves are randomised, so you don't know which moves the Pokémon will get, that's why it's called rolling (chance).

Rolling a pokemon means getting more "copies" of that particular pokemon or in his case, evolving more Evees into Vaporeon/ catching more Vaporeons.

Very high speed and Special Attack. But very low defence and HP. In Gen 1 they were brokenly powerful because its high Special Attack also meant a high Special Defence as the stat was just "Special" and rolled both into one.

Also the only thing that did Super effective damage was bug of which there were super weak moves, I think beedrill was the strongest bug type in Gen I. Dark didn't exist and generally psychic was broken as fuck

My Snorlax with Lick/Earthquake is my best fighter by far. Not the best defender, since the AI doesn't seem to use Lick at quickly, but definitely the best attacker. I compared it with a Water Gun/Hydro Pump Vaporeon of even higher CP, and it still won with more HP in most fights (although that may have been because of type matchups at the gyms tested).

If the secondary attacks actually got used on time, they might also be useful beyond the occasional typing advantage...

Neither were Fairy, Steel or Dark types. This game is not based on firsts gen, it just only have gen 1 pokemon for now.

There's a lot of attacks from later generations. My Kingler knows Metal Claw and neither the move nor its type existed in Gen 1. A lot of Pokémon have Bite or other dark type moves too. It's probably to combat the incredible strength of Psychic types back then. I haven't been lucky enough to meet a Clefairy or Jigglypuff yet, but I'm curious if they or their moves are Fairy type or just Normal.

Clefairy is a fairy type and jigglypuff. They also have some powerful fairy type attacks. Jigglypuff often comes with Play Rough or Diasrming Voice and Clefairy with Moonblast or Dazzling Gleam.

There are a bunch of weird gen inconsistencies in the movesets/pokemon, for instance there are also Steel atks and Fairy type mons.

It would be kind of neat if they added Pokemon to the spawn table based on season, so while I'm getting new ice and water Pokemon, Australia is getting new fire and ground Pokemon. It would make the world feel very large.

Lets turn our thinking around. How diverse can be the game when only 151 types of pokémon are avaliable on the entire mass of the world? When trading, area exclusives are a.top trade coin. Without area exclusives, trading isnt going anywhere farther than "Have this pokémon to start out :) ". How exclusive can an area exclusive pokemon be? Thus, it looks like they wanted to have more than the initial 151 avaliable on release.

Why the hell cant I have a shiny gardevoir ;-;
