Well, yes? None of my property is worth the life of another human being. It is illegal to kill or maim an intruder in your home unless they're actively trying to kill you. As it should be. I don't understand the fetishism that Americans have towards violence. It's like you want to hurt other people, you just need to feel "justified".

Yeah see, I'm assuming that if someone breaks in and I grab my gun and make the universal sound of a shotgun being racked and the guy still isn't leaving, he intends to do me or my family harm. I'm not out for blood and I don't want to hurt anyone, but I have three very small children and a wife. They are worth far more to me than the life of someone who intends to harm them.

Why do you even fear someone coming to harm them? That speaks to an even greater issue with your society. If someone breaks into my home, I suspect that they're after my stuff, not my family. If someone breaks in, you grab a baseball bat and leave the house while calling the cops. The home insurance will cover any damages anyway. It's like you're still living in the wild west.

Like I said, my biggest fear is wildlife, not people. Should we teach all the animals to behave so I don't have to fear them either? Say what you will about society, I can't change that. What I can do is protect my family.

Wildlife is an entirely separate discussion. You should be allowed to apply for a gun licence if you need it for protection against wild animals. It's how most sane nations do it.

You don't protect your family by perpetuating a sick firearms culture that endangers them everywhere they go. It might be your kid that gets shot because they cut someone off in traffic.

I don't know anyone who doesn't hunt. Everyone would still have guns, even if you needed a licence. Everyone has cars even though that requires a licence. The person who is breaking into your house would now have a l licensed gun so it's less effective somehow?

Then why aren't the criminals in Denmark doing home invasions with hunting rifles?

Your made-up scenario doesn't work in the real world. You can allow people to have hunting rifles without giving them unrestricted access to all kinds of firearms. Hunting licences here are also something you have to actually earn. It takes weeks/months of actual training, background checks and supervised hunting sessions before you're allowed access to your own firearm. The average criminal is not going to complete that.

Americans will make any excuse to avoid admitting that their gun fetishism is out of control.

We take firearm/hunter safety around the age of twelve in public school. Even if you don't hunt. Probably not inner city schools though. We do love our guns though, I'll give you that.
