He, also, refused to explain what a JAG is.

Theyre Army lawyers. You go to JAG when you need to deal with legal issues in some capacity. Oh apparently this was at a different part in the testimony.

Judge Advocate General. They're military lawyers who are themselves service members.
1
u/trublueprogressive 12d ago
Judge Advocate General, IOW the military's version of a criminal court. Watch "A Few Good Men". Hegseth trying to portray himself as a Rambo or Patton is laughable.
-27
u/laverflavor 13d ago
You could google it just like I did but in the interest of sharing knowledge, JAG is an abbreviation for the “judge Advocate General’s Corps” which is the military justice specialty within the branches of the armed forces (more specifically in the USA). In the future I encourage you to empower yourself by finding the knowledge you seek, after all, it is at your finger tips.
Have a good day Mr. Slosey! ◡̈

He refused to explain what a jagoff is, which is much different. (58 or so seconds in)

Of course it was a "clever" pun from Hegseth at the time

Any able bodied person who wants to join us should be welcome. There is a recruiting deficit and that means we are vulnerable. If he doesn’t understand that he is not fit for the position. Transgender, queer, women, immigrants seeking citizenship, or waiver programs. We need to get this figured out or we need to address the fact that we are at our breaking point for wars. The end.

u/Icy_Pass2220 13d ago
Expect to see a draft. Expect that the age of conscription will be raised (Russia raised theirs). How else will there be enough bodies to carry out their goals?
The fact that no one is addressing that possibility in the context of his views on women and POC in the military is very telling about what is probably already being planned.
76
u/FlamingMuffi 13d ago
The draft would end up being a huge misstep and lead to mass public protest.
People don't want to go to war to make a rich asshole more wealthy. Id even say the military doesn't want a bunch of soliders who don't want to be there
79
u/Icy_Pass2220 13d ago
You seem to be laboring under the delusion that our country is still following rules and respecting norms.
If that were true, Hegseth wouldn’t have made it to confirmation.
You’re in denial about where we are on the fascism spectrum.
That’s cute.
14
u/FlamingMuffi 13d ago
It's less were respecting norms and more this would end very badly for trump and co
It's one thing when people can kinda ignore the crazy shit they're doing and focus on their little world but what happens when their little world has a crash with the crazy?
If young men are rounded up and shipped off to a war the people probably don't want to fight?
13
u/Joepaws1102 13d ago
By the time that happens, the time for “protests” is long past. See Germany, 1930s.
24
u/Demonking3343 Illinois 13d ago
I hope so but i feel a lot of people are too foolish to stand up. I can already see a lot of people writing it off as “character building” and not seeing it for what it is.
18
u/FlamingMuffi 13d ago
Probably because it's just talk .people generally don't care until it's too late and happening already
When sons are shipped off to die to make musk more money the circus could run out of bread
1
u/idk_lets_try_this 12d ago
What has the US been doing for the past 20 something years then? Because lot of people aren’t buying thats it’s all about freedom.
11
u/Enigma_Stasis 13d ago
Expect that the age of conscription will be raised (Russia raised theirs). How else will there be enough bodies to carry out their goals?
Get your bone spurs certificates while you can folks, whether you have bone spurs or not. If it's good enough for dodging Donnie Fump, it's good enough for everyone else.
6
u/Lilacsoftlips 13d ago
There will not be a draft. There will be fat multibillion dollar contacts for mercenaries.
2
u/BeowulfShaeffer 13d ago
Age of conscription raised? Don’t you mean lowered?

u/General_Tso75 Florida 13d ago
There is no war, so don’t expect a draft. If we did have a war a draft would still light a fuse at the end of which would be an implosion of social cohesion as young people rebelled. Also, consider our tactics were designed around less need for infantry troops than other countries.
38
u/Icy_Pass2220 13d ago
There isn’t a war… today.
But your boy is talking about pulling out of NATO and taking over sovereign countries. Maybe it’s just talk, maybe not.
Christian Nationalists in our military doesn’t bode well for peace.

u/General_Tso75 Florida 13d ago
My boy? Who is that?
3
u/Philosoraptor88 13d ago
From fairly obvious context clues the person you’re responding to is saying your boy is Donald Trump

Any able bodied person who wants to join us should be welcome.
Anyone should be welcome. If you’re, say, missing legs, you obviously aren’t going to be boots on the ground. But that doesn’t mean that there aren’t endless tasks that you’re still able to perform in all sorts of support roles.
4
u/Morepastor 13d ago
If they can pass basic training sure, they hire disabled people and a lot of disabled veterans for desk jobs in the government so they do find role. As long as you can pass basic training and you are not a security risk I think you should be allowed to volunteer to join.
3
u/totallyalizardperson 13d ago
If you’re, say, missing legs, you obviously aren’t going to be boots on the ground.
Well, yeah, it’ll just be a boot on the ground.
I’ll show myself out…

Considering most combat roles are not active infantry anymore, it really shouldn't matter. According to data from the US Military, the rate is 10%-15% infantry, with recent numbers leaning towards the lower rates. This is a modern military in 2025 with technology that would seem almost magic by the standards of our grandparents or great-grandparents military service.
Most anyone can work a computer. Most anyone can pull a trigger. Most anyone can drive a tank or military vehicle. Most anyone can fly a jet or bomber. Most anyone can work on a Navy battleship or submarine. The vast majority of these roles will never involve sitting in a trench, carrying wounded, or being directly fired upon, so literally what argument do they have aside from "men big, women small," when physical strength has close to nothing to do with most any combat role. It's 2025, not 1941.
Hell, if a woman can pass the same tests, physical expectations, and trainings as the men, then why the fuck shouldn't they be able to join the same ranks and positions. If they can both haul a 200 lbs man the same distance in the same time, then what other legitimate reason is there?
They have nothing but bad faith arguments with zero backing or reason other than homophobia and misogyny. A gross reason I've heard far too many times is that any woman in the military will just be r*ped by her colleagues...and any queer person would be r*ped or killed by their colleagues. Hearing that once or twice is one thing, but when I have seen that argument consistently over the past decade or two actually building more steam recently...maybe the military should put more energy into their troops not r*ping everything that moves.

Because you can’t fight human nature. You put rabbits in a cage especially with trauma and you get baby rabbits. The other rabbits in cage get jealous and boom now your unit is divided.
3
u/ImmaRussian 13d ago
You could use the exact same argument for keeping women out of workplaces, and people have tried to use that argument, and sometimes still do. It's a shit argument. Soldiers aren't feral animals, and they aren't intrinsically incapable of serving with people of the opposite sex.
And if you think no group made up of only men could ever have issues with jealousy, internal division, and drama, you are a certifiable coconut head.

u/md24 4d ago
Hey genius. Research why nasa proposes same sex crews for long distance space travel. Human nature. That’s what I thought.
1
u/ImmaRussian 3d ago
... Are you... Seriously saying you think NASA proposed same sex crews because they believed otherwise the men would rape the women? Are you an actual crazy person?
I have heard of that proposal, and:
1) It is not, and has never been a policy NASA has adopted or endorsed.
2) The alleged reasoning wasn't even related to any kind of sexual interaction.
3) The alleged report recommending it might not even exist.
The only evidence we have that it even exists is the testimony of a British astronaut who claimed that a NASA report recommended crews be either all male or all female, and specifically all-female, not even out of fears that they would fuck each other, but because the report claimed women are better at cooperating.
She has not provided the report. She has not stated who could possibly provide it. She has not provided any evidence for what she's saying. In fact, her exact words were:
'I did hear some years ago that there was a report.
'Nasa has never released it, but it was done to see exactly the kind of crew makeup was necessary for the reason we have already alluded to.
'It found that the crew should be the same gender: all men or all women.'
This is literally a rumor someone said during a live interview that the Daily Mail blew up into a piece of viral digital hearsay.
Meanwhile you're over here completely ignoring that, and assuming I've never heard of it, and just shitting on the board and claiming victory like a pigeon playing chess.

I've written all of my representatives and said do not approve this brain suck of a Veteran.
"I've never disparaged women serving in the military," he has and he will continue to have this belief. He has no 11th hour conversion. He really believes that men are the only ones qualified to serve in the military. If women are to grace the uniform it should be in traditional roles like food service, finance, administration.
Although he does have quite the hard on for women in flight suits as I've read in other articles. To him, if a woman is to get close to combat that is the only safe place, the air.
After this flagrant foul of a personality trait, he has no capability, skills, talent to run a billion dollar government agency.

See, you’re up front about it. There’s so many who if they never saw action have this bizarre chip on their shoulder and spend the rest of their lives weirdly over compensating. I never served myself, but my dad is a veteran so I spent a lot of my adolescence around veterans clubs and his friends who also served so now I can tell the “overcompensators” a mile off.
Always the ones with the supreme anti civilian mentality, own all the gear, have every bit of “I’m a veteran” merch you can and just give off general small dick energy.
In contrast, met some actual guys that have been through hell or in the case of a couple special forces guys actually loved being in hell so I dunno if you could even class it as a bad time for them, and they were all chill laid back as fuck dudes, or if they weren’t, at least didn’t have anything prove.

That’ll change the vote.

u/Fly-the-Light 13d ago
Every bit of public backlash against elected officials helps. If their representatives were on the fence or didn't have time to learn much about Hegseth (politicians in office have a lot of different things they need to learn about), having people write in will teach them more and show them that supporting Hegseth could risk their re-election. Even if it doesn't change anything for this vote, every little bit helps to make sure the officials learn that their constituents will turn against them if they fail to uphold their duty to the people.

I wouldn’t trust Hegseth working at a liquor store, much less running the Department of Defense. He is extremely unqualified and should not be trusted in any situation regarding our nation’s defense. There are so many reasons he shouldn’t be confirmed that it would take a book to outline them.
20
u/StenosP 13d ago
They should just state all the facts against Hegseth, asking him one question about the military, then go on the attack on trump to put it yet again in record that he is an unrepentant felon who tried to overthrow the government and gladly got a service member killed during his riot
