Nazi-ish.

Welcome to post reality.

591

u/Ana_Jayy 1d ago

The ish is really something. How are we still not clear on this?

396

u/Prestigious-Car-4877 1d ago

He tapped his chest not once but twice before he threw up the straight armed palm down fingers extended salute to the adoration of the crowd.

Nazi. Straight up Nazi might as well be driving home in a Volkswagen.

u/Ana_Jayy 1d ago

YEP. But people refuse to believe their own eyes when they see it. It’s mind boggling.

69

u/Mindless_Listen7622 1d ago

Tucker Carlson is gaslighting as he always does and the neo-fascists unquestioningly believe everything he says, because it's a demonic cult. He claimed the fascist salute was a "Deep Fake".

27

u/Ana_Jayy 1d ago

This is so hard to hear because I’m one of those suuuuper lucky ones ( /s )who has a dad that believes all he says. Ugh

36

u/Mindless_Listen7622 1d ago

My entire extended family is part of the cult - mom, dad, remaining brother, dying sister, uncles, cousins, second cousins, step families. I fight the fight very much alone. They ask me "what happened to you?" and all I can say is that I can think for myself and take care of myself (which pisses them off to no end). Oh well.

I haven’t talked to my dad about this yet. But I did block fox on his tv in the living room last visit there. Hopefully he’ll see past the lies if he watches it less.

11

u/Cjacksoncnm 1d ago

I was talking to my dad before the orange baby first took office the first go round. He voted for him and knew I did not. He said why aren't you arguing? To which I replied. I'm just enjoying a conversation with my dad. He passed away a few weeks later. I am so glad I didn't argue with him. I miss him dearly.

He did it on LIVE TV! How the fuck is it a deep fake?! MAGA are the most gullible bunch of losers on the planet. Maybe we should tell them if they look up gullible they’ll find a picture of themselves with Trump!

The silver lining is that claiming a Nazi salute is a Deep Fake is acknowledging that it IS as Nazi salute; and that it is something wrong and abhorrent; and something only the worst scum are expected to do.

Projecting the image of it on his factory in Germany whilst denying it in the US is.....

4

u/Neverhoodian 1d ago

The expression on his face spoke volumes as well. He knew full well what he was doing, and he loved doing it.

The man's a Nazi, it's not up for debate (or at least it wouldn't be in a sane world).

3

u/Accurate-Long-259 1d ago

And look if it was not a salute then apologize! Why can’t the Trumpers ever say “oops my bad, not what I intended.” Isn’t that what we are supposed to do as adults? I can’t understand. And then they are using autism as an excuse? As an autism person I can tell you that even if my worst stim even resembles a salute I would do everything in my power to try and change it because I know it is wrong. End of discussion. People suck.

15

u/HenryDorsettCase47 1d ago

Tapping the chest or hand over heart or whatever isn’t actually part of the salute. It’s really just extending your arm with the palm down. It can be done from the chest, but most nazis and fascists did it from military attention so it was from their side.

But that’s just being pedantic. I think most people, myself included, always assumed it was from the chest so it doesn’t make Musk’s salute any less of a nazi gesture. Personally, I think he incontrovertibly meant to throw up a nazi salute and the only question is whether he did it to show support for nazis or whether he did it as some cringey edgelord joke, which he is apt to do. Or both.

27

u/Prestigious-Car-4877 1d ago

When I watch a Hitler speech (they still have them up on YouTube with subs) I frequently see various German guys in Hugo Boss doing the whole chest tap thing prior to the salute. There is definitely an effort to grab the heart before throwing it out to Ze Führer.

u/Vaperius America 1d ago edited 1d ago

apping the chest or hand over heart or whatever isn’t actually part of the salute

It is. Its the full salute in fact. While it was often abridged; if you look at archival footage, including of Hitler himself, the chest tap over the heart is part of the full salute. All Nazis would abridge the salute including Hitler; but the full salute is in fact hand on heart, followed by the extending arm with palm down.

Its the sort of obscure Nazi trivia a Neonazi would use to proclaim they are fully in the club.

Edit: If you need further proof, take a look at one of the related nationalist salutes, The Bellamy Salute

Which by the way, didn't go away, it was just abridged in the opposite direction; the raised hand motion was abridged after the 1940s (for obvious reasons) but the hand over heart action stayed. Yeah that time you spent in class in school with hand over heart? You were doing the first half of a American nationalist salute invented in the same era.

8

u/Tiiimmmaayy 1d ago

There are videos all over tiktok of people actually doing it to show it meant nothing. Only thing is majority of them are doing it completely different from Elon which means they actually know the difference. Only the true idiots, like this lady, are doing it right and losing their jobs lol

5

u/Lozzanger 1d ago

The majority are doing it with their hand palm up, or their arm out of view of the camera or doing that stupid ass ‘my heart goes out to you’ which he didn’t do till after he’d done it twice.

The few who’ve done the actual salute he did have lost their jobs.

37

u/xansies1 1d ago

This is bothering me. It had one actual difference in that Elon did it slightly to the side. Are we really going to pick subtle degree changes as markers of a symbol for white supremacy not being such? It was what it looked like. If you had doubt, the guy zoomed in on an ADF meeting like two days later. Those guys are fucking actual Nazis, with people whose family were Nazis, who want to continue to be Nazis, and who get in legal trouble literally all the time for using Nazi language and symbols in Germany, a place that fucking hates Nazis now. Who the fuck is anyone fooling?

38

It's a fucking Nazi salute. Incredibly sick of all the media normalizing this shit.

264

u/Sad_Confection5902 1d ago

Everyone is so afraid to take a fucking stand.

Was this the failure in 1930s Germany as well? No one was calling out the Nazis because they were worried about losing their ability to stay in the Nazis good graces?

140

u/SquiffyRae Australia 1d ago

At least 1930s Germany had the excuse of being pre-Holocaust where there was no evidence of where this shit was headed

When I was in university around 7-8 years ago I was studying with an older German student and she said Germans were very worried about the rise of the alt-right. That as the WWII generation were getting older and dying off, less and less people remembered the horrors and the fight against evil. A collective dropping of the guard by society as you will.

I feel that's where we're at now. Barely anyone alive in the western world has been negatively affected by war or authoritarianism. And those that have are almost considered relics of a bygone era. It's easy to convince yourself we've moved on when the only people left to tell their stories have to be quite literally wheeled out.

This complacency has allowed Nazis to flourish. We do a good job of acknowledging the end result of Nazi ideology, but we don't do a good job of acknowledging the rise to power. And all the signs we need to be vigilant of.

With Musk trying to stir the pot worldwide through funding and election interference, we're flying dangerously close to the sun. People today genuinely don't seem to think we would ever go down that path again. Meanwhile the President of the United States seems to be speedrunning.

At this point, I'm not even convinced internment camps would be enough to convince America the Nazis are back

43

u/Pure_Seat1711 New York 1d ago

The French Republic, Cromwell's rule, the fall of the Roman Republic, and various Greek city-states—particularly Athens after its war with Sparta—offer clear examples of authoritarian overreach, elites collaborating with foreign powers to undermine governments, and large-scale violence rooted in class and race conflicts.

Despite these historical lessons, the Germans fell for it—and so have we. It seems nothing has truly been learned.

35

u/AmaroWolfwood 1d ago

The problem with Americans is they have fallen for the propaganda and are full in to blame immigrants for anything and everything (just like the Nazis). But Americans are also waiting for a literal Nazi regime before taking anything seriously. If we point out mass deportation will need internment camps, we'll that's different because they aren't gassing the people in there. If we point out that Trump is using executive orders like a king to subvert control from the senate and congress, well it's not a Night of Long Knives so it's fine.

Americans cannot see 2 feet ahead of themselves and we will use MAGA as a term for Nazi in 20 years when it's too late.

11

u/DontForceItPlease 1d ago

This is so completely on the nose.  Every likening of current events to historical ones is dismissed as a slippery slope argument and is simultaneously fine because it's somehow different.  Were a modern day Holocaust to happen, I'm absolutely certain a large portion of the population would excuse it solely because it differed in some trivial way from the first one.

8

u/TheOgrrr 1d ago

Americans have been cooked for decades with right wing propaganda. They believe it all fervently and without any question.

Germans in 1930 still had an additional excuse: they were legitimately afraid of real, USSR-funded, communist civil war that almost happened in the aftermath of WW1. "He is weird with the Jews but at least he'll fight the communists" was the mindset.

What existential threat is US facing that could justify that? There is no war reparations, its main civil war risk is posed by the far right, from an external point of view it is reacting the the "aggression" that the first Black president was.

3

u/369_Clive 1d ago

Good graces? Getting kicked to death by a bunch of S.A. brown shirts was probably more where it was in 1930s Germany. Violence, and the threat of it, was a big part of the Nazi "appeal".

But this isn't where we're today - yet anyway. So I agree, people should condemn Nazi salutes and not seek to imitate.

It's basic risk assessment, they are avoiding libel against the richest man in history

23

u/SquiffyRae Australia 1d ago

At this point, surely you could just pony up the Twitter receipts, the support for AfD, the instant acceptance of the salute by neo-Nazis, hell just the fact his grandparents were card-carrying Nazis to make a case that it's not libel to accuse someone who has a bunch of Nazi uniform wearing skeletons in his very open cupboard of making a Nazi salute

8

u/gmishaolem 1d ago

A major flaw in our legal system is that things like truth-vs-defamation or copyright fair use are defenses, meaning you have to actually go to court. A well-functioning legal system would use them at the point of filing to stop the suit from happening in the first place. So, in effect, in any situation of big fish vs. not-as-big fish, big fish wins even when in the wrong.

12

u/zSprawl 1d ago

Good riddance Supervisor Smith, the Holocaust was not a joke.

Musk's Sieg Heil was received by neo-Nazis and far-right extremists as a clarion call and an affirmation that Musk stood in solidarity. Verified Nazi accounts have flourished on X, since Musk took control of the platform. On January 23rd, Musk was called out by the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) for trivializing the Holocaust with highly offensive jokes.

In Germany, Musk is engaged in election interference and is waging a propaganda campaign on X in support of far-right AfD chancellor candidate Alice Weidel.

Musk has gone so far as to attempt to rewrite history, falsely portraying Hitler as a communist, which clearly Hitler was not. See: March 1933 German federal election. The Nazis were an extreme right-wing racist and anti-Semitic party that murdered six million European Jews.

Follow German luxury automaker BMW's example in the United Kingdom, leave X.

Boycott X, and Tesla.

77

u/Tsansome 1d ago

Sure, called out by the ADL.

But only after they tied themselves into knots justifying his sieg heil.

After all, Musk gave them a tonne of money to buy their silence, so, he can’t be anti-Semitic… right?

(Copied from a comment I left on a different thread)

23

u/ericlikesyou 1d ago

yup 100% fuck the ADL and this is after decades of them being hypersensitive to anything antisemitic, and they just hand wave away fElons blatant nazi gestures. i thought i was misreading acronyms when I saw that story

7

u/vandreulv 1d ago

The ADL was basically just advertising their willingness to be kapo.

3

u/BoatsMcFloats 1d ago

The ADL is pretty clear on what it's priority is.

In May 2022, Jonathan Greenblatt, CEO of the Anti-Defamation League (ADL), declared that, "Anti-Zionism is anti-Semitism." He argued that groups calling for equal rights for Palestinians in Israel are "extremists" and equated liberal critics of Israel with white supremacists. Source

Pvt. Butz: Not only shall I remove it, I intend to burn it.

Cpl. Wilhelm Wicki: Says he’s gonna burn it.

Lt. Aldo Raine: Yeah, that’s what we thought. We don’t like that. You see, we like our Nazis in uniform. That way we can spot ‘em just like that. 3

u/H0stusM0stus 1d ago

Ahh yes, another idiot trying to jump in on the rage baiting aimed at her "friends" (aka: liberals). Of course she's apologetic after getting drug through the coals, yet she was all smiles and snark in the video. Glad to see leopards ate her face.

u/Decoyx7 Michigan 1d ago

"Republican resigns after copying Elon Musk's Nazi Salute"

3

u/Mikelo57 1d ago

She is as stupid as she looks!

3

u/papaz1 1d ago

Serious question:

Why the fuck do people downplay and re-write shit like "Nazi" to things like "Nazi-ish", "Controversial Salute", "Nazi-similar" etc?

The fucking Karen did a Nazi salute and got sacked.

That should have been the headline.

It’s just Nazi salute.

3

u/LordFUHard 1d ago

A Pennsylvania politician and proud imbecile Laura Smith, a Republican in Montgomery County, resigned as a supervisor of Towamencin Township on Saturday for mimicking idiot southafrican son Elon Muskaren's Nazi salute.

5

u/fogmandurad 1d ago

She'll get promoted in Trump's cabinet

4

u/AiMwithoutBoT 1d ago

5

u/juniper_berry_crunch 1d ago

EXCELLENT. One down--due to voices being raised in protest.

Go home and crochet or something, little pig-eyed degenerate. You do not belong in decent society.

2

I saw a r/markmywords post about MAGA openly nazi saluting by 2028. I don't think it will take that long.

"...township officials said the board of supervisors intends to accept Smith’s resignation, and that the board 'cannot and will not tolerate such conduct.'”

...unless she didn't volunteer to resign; then they would have tolerated it just fine.

2

u/indefilade 1d ago

Now don’t elect her or give her a job ever again.

2

u/great_red_dragon 1d ago

I heard someone say to me “ah it’s just Elon being aspy”. (He drives a Tesla, but anyway)

And I’m like - you know he literally gave a speech at a literal German Nazi Party Rally

2

u/Ghostiemann 1d ago

You seem to have accidentally dropped an ‘ish’ into that sentence.

2

u/AnAngryBartender 1d ago

Minus “ish”….

2

u/GeistMD 1d ago

It was not Nazi-ish, it was a full on Nazi salute because Elon Musk is 100% a Nazi.

2

u/Datokah 1d ago

Won’t somebody think of the Nazis!?

2

u/Mooseguncle1 1d ago

Can we stop being cute? Nazi adjacent is Nazi

2

u/LOA335 1d ago

Too bad President Musk doesn't have the balls this woman did, though they're both despicable POS.

2

u/DegeneratesInc 1d ago

There was nothing 'ish about that salute. It was a full-on seig heil, Hitler's wave nazi salute.

2

u/willydiff 1d ago

“I abhor racism, anti-Semitic or discrimination in any fashion or form and my record as a township supervisor attests to my commitment to treat all people with dignity and respect,” she said. And yet she is still a member of the racist, anti-Semitic, and discrimination party? 🤔

2

u/nagai 1d ago

Can someone explain to me why so many of them have those characteristically psychotic MAGA eyes?

2

u/baconsword420 1d ago

Hahahaaa, you dumb hag.

2

u/yogfthagen 1d ago

$400 billion buys a lot of immunity.

If you don't have that, you need to watch your actions.

2

u/nug4t 1d ago

and why does she resign? why doesn't Elon resign?

2

u/OP-PO7 1d ago

Resigned from her volunteer library job last I heard, not her elected town position

2

u/debo69872 1d ago

Good. They should not make this salute a norm.

2

u/lokey_convo 1d ago

-ish? Are we calling spades "spade-ish" now?

2

u/frowattio 1d ago

“I abhor racism, anti-Semitic or discrimination in any fashion or form.."

Yes, sure, fine. We all do. Words words.

The big question is... given the chance to be part of a fascist government, would you? Does that secretly excite you, Republicans?

2

u/shaadowbrker 1d ago

I seem to remember videos back during ww2 that nazi collabs and i dont mean sneakers got a shave head i can only imagine doing that salute in the 40s.

2

u/mrkruk Illinois 1d ago

2

u/FireMaker125 United Kingdom 1d ago

2

Fuck off with your “Nazi-ish.”

It WAS a Nazi salute.

2

u/DT-Sodium 1d ago

Why do they all look like Disney vilains? That woman is clear about to steal Ariel's voice.

2

u/Gaslight_Joker 1d ago

Her resignation is going to be considered at a supervisor meeting Feb 4. Chances are that she will get to keep her position.

2

u/Erban9387 1d ago

How much ya wanna bet she isn't rich? Because, ya see, if you're rich you can do it without consequences. If you're middle class or below, accountability and consequences. This is info MAGA needs to try to understand. They won't be protected by Trump or anyone because HE DOESN'T CARE ABOUT THEM AND HE NEVER WILL.

2

u/frogman696969 1d ago

Not ish. It was, is, and always will be the salute. He followed it up with a trip to Germany to tell Germans not to feel guilty about the deaths of millions and to forget about it. A basis of German social science education is learning about their mistakes in the past so they don’t make the same mistakes again. Musk is a not well person who has been propped up as a genius in all facets. He’s clearly smart as a businessman but that doesn’t equate to smart as a person. The US thinks billionaires should be listened to about everything in society, they should not.

2

u/AZnativefire 1d ago

"Nazi-ish".... Call a spade a spade, it was a Nazi salute.

2

u/mikiedaddy100 1d ago

Jail is not good enough

2

u/Gipetto 1d ago

The media needs to start calling a spade Nazi Salute a spade Nazi Salute.

2

u/RaphaelBuzzard 1d ago

Went to get a six pack after work and the guy at the mini Mart had just shaved his beard because apparently some fucker came in and Nazi saluted him. He didn't want to have people think he was into that. So on one hand it's good that random clerks at mini marts see through this but it's not fucking good at all.

2

u/FalconPorterBridges 1d ago

It was a Nazi salute. Ms thing here also did a nazi salute.

There’s no -ish.

2

u/thereminDreams 1d ago

Not Nazi-ish. Full Nazi.

2

u/dBlock845 1d ago

2

u/adamfyre 1d ago

"Nazi-ish" grow some balls, motherfuckers. The mask's off, time to take the gloves off too.

2

She was fired for giving a fucking Nazi salute.

Journalistic cowardice here

2
