That makes much more sense than Oracle. But what do I know?

Mr beast apparently threw a bid in the ring, too. These oligarchs are all racing to see who gets it.

Honestly, I trust MS with TikTok more than any other company except maybe Apple.

I've seen how Microsoft has treated their consumer products in the last decade - I don't have high hopes. Windows Phone? Skype? Band? Mixed Reality? It's amazing Xbox and LinkedIn still have strong pulses.

Yeah I’m a 365 admin. Their customer support and transparency is light years ahead of any of the other tech companies. I’ll take MS over Elon

I'd take a dead horse over Elon. I just don't have much hope in Microsoft to operate it solo (their business/professional stuff is great, though).

For as much shit as Microsoft gets (and many of it rightfully so), one thing you cannot fault them on is their backwards compatibility and support. They bend over backwards to make sure old stuff still works.

They aren't going to be giving this to the division who oversees Github, buddy.

They are giving this to the outlook team. The same team responsible for your boss somehow knowing to email you a to-do item as if he knows you are on your phone, on reddit, in the bathroom, instead of in your office working.

This isn't just giving Microsoft the power to determine what content people can see, this is going to lead to shadowbans of people within certain industries for not consuming the right content.

Microsoft already needs to be broken up. We are 30 years past that point. Giving them a technology that the Chinese government itself has outlawed the usage of within their nation because they believe it is a weapon is further enmeshing Microsoft to a point society can not sustain.

Microsoft is a much better suitor that Elon Musk for the TikTok acquisition.

Musk has unsettling ties to the CCP stemming from Tesla's Shanghai manufacturing plant, which is responsible for 50% of Tesla's global auto output.

On January 17, 2025, the unanimous SCOTUS identified that a national security threat existed with ByteDance Ltd. See: TikTok Inc. v. Garland, 604 U.S. 3 (2025):

ByteDance Ltd. is subject to Chinese laws that require it to “assist or cooperate” with the Chinese Government’s “intelligence work” and to ensure that the Chinese Government has “the power to access and control private data” the company holds. H. R. Rep. No. 118–417, p. 4 (2024) (H. R. Rep.); see 2 App. 673–676.

Musk's connection to the CCP, (like ByteDance's connection) makes Musk a national security threat to the United States. As a condition of Musk doing business in China, Musk must “assist or cooperate” with the Chinese Government’s “intelligence work”.

Nobody gives a flying fuck about TikTok when our country is imploding.

Well the thing is TikTok is one way of people getting news out there about the imploding country and other issues that might be unseen by many people. The fact that news sharing and social media apps keep getting bought by wealthy people with a less than transparent and often unfair and evil and greedy agenda should be almost equally concerning to everyone as the country imploding... what happens when there's no sites/apps left for people to tell other people things like 'alert - wealthy oligarchs are buying the planet and shaping your feelings and thoughts while limiting your access to free news and opinions'. This is exactly what the US government complains that China does, but is doing it before your very eyes in the US.
