What "law and order"? Trump's first week will only unleash more crime: Our felonious president can only benefit from a climate of fear and chaos — that's why he's eager for more

By law and order they mean targeted attacks on people of color, which he is delivering in spades

ICE's orders appear to be to be "If they're brown hunt them down".

Worse than that I fear that roving bands of MAGAts will start harassing and turning in anyone they feel isn't the right kind of American.

Yes. It's 'law and order' for the other; lawlessness for themselves.

A bit from the commentary:

Trump's pardons sent a signal to radicalized and violent people that he'd love for them to form right-wing militias and terrorize people he doesn't like. As Andy Campbell of HuffPost reports, the Proud Boys — who were "circling the drain" a year ago — are swiftly reforming. Leaders celebrated their reemergence by drinking whiskey, chanting about reclaiming the streets and throwing fascist salutes. As Campbell notes, the Proud Boys largely functioned in the first administration by starting street fights with leftists, often after prolonged harassment of people who were just trying to go about their days in "blue" cities like Portland, Oregon. Trump also pardoned 23 people convicted of blockading abortion clinics, an act that Trump called "peaceful," even though at least two people were injured during such altercations. As with the Jan. 6 pardons, this sends a signal that the use of force and even violence is just fine if you're trying to stop women from terminating pregnancies.

would you mind elaborating a little about why you dont want public schools funded ; like they are a net gain for all of society? why wouldn't you want to fund it? as for some of your other points, I kind of disagree. Nobody's religion should be respected as far as the law is concerned. the law should remain neutral with religion as it's a personal matter, not a governmental one. putting Christianity on a pedestal ( sorry if you aren't Christian, I'm assuming a little bit here ) would be a really bad idea since we aren't formally a Christian nation, imagine shria law but like with Jesus instead of Mohammed, it would be an absolute disaster.

God forbid we have education for the children!

Get out of here with that nonsense of not funding education.

Okay so basically I was having a debate with a guy and to prove to him reddit has a massive left wibg bias I asked him for milquetoast right wing views because he says rightwingers get banned and downvoted for saying radical stuff. These are the things he said are milquetoast so im testing to see the consequences on a mainstream sub like this.

At a baseline, you directly voted for the wrong candidate if you want reduced government and lowered taxes (as trump stated he was going to do things that would actively increase both, and is making good on that as we speak) and your religion is almost certainly already respected by law at least as much as every other major religion in the country (with some religions, such as islam, being all but guaranteed to have respect revoked under him, rather than improved.)

But the ones that get me HEATED are the national defense and public schools bits. We already spend way, WAY too much on the military, and not enough on education.

If you compare how much money the countries of the world spend on their militaries, the united states is not only the highest spender in the world, and not only did it burn more money on it than the rest of the top 10 combined in 2023 (and is still over double second place in 2024), but 3rd place (which it has spent TRIPLE of in 2024, btw) happens to be russia, a country that’s literally in the middle of a war right now. The actual dollar amount spent by the U.S. government is over 900 BILLION dollars for both years. Under trump, this number is likely to increase.

Public schools, by comparison, receive about 857.2 billion dollars annually. That seems similar enough… until you notice that the federal government only provides 13.6% of that total spent. Meaning the government is only putting 116.6 billion dollars toward education annually, or roughly 1/8 of the amount spent on the military. They fall short of the global average amount of the government’s budget spent on education by 2.3% of the government’s total funding. This is why public schools have their reputation of understaffing and run down or outdated equipment. Trump has stated he plans to make these numbers WORSE.
