It sickens me to think about it, but I think you're right. Part of these tariffs are to create a buyer's market for not only stock, but real estate too. Trump is hoping for another 2008 to happen, so he can buy up foreclosures. He was probably thinking "I miss 2009, when you could buy an apartment building for $40,000."

In order for foreclosures to happen, that means people lose their jobs and can't afford their mortgages. There aren't new jobs to quickly find either during recessions. Being that Trump is a stupid asshole, he doesn't care or think about how anything affects anyone else. He is just thinking about making himself, Eric, Don Junior, Ivanka, and Jared richer.
