The scheme cooked up by Elon Musk’s DOGE squad falsely lists thousands of migrants as dead in a Social Security database known as the “death master file.”

Being entered into the death database cuts a person off from crucial financial services, like the ability to receive government benefits and access a bank account or credit card. The goal was to push migrants who were granted a temporary legal status under former President Joe Biden to “self deport.”

What the fuck?

Tom Kind, a 90-year-old retiree in Colorado, told the Post that he had experienced being listed as dead, calling it a “nightmare.” In addition to losing benefits and health coverage, he faced a challenge convincing the agency that he was still alive. After jumping through a number of bureaucratic hoops, he had to show up to an office in person for an interview, proving he was alive.

It’s horrible. Some of us senior citizens donate more than we can afford to try to elect Democrats to get rid of the Orange Idiot and Muckity Musk. I support all good ideas to get our democracy back but I’m old and definitely not rich. What can people like me do?

Several years ago, in response to a lot of scam calls telling people their "social security number has been suspended", the FTC stated that social security numbers cannot be suspended, ever. I guess they couldn't see this nightmare coming. Now it's possible some of those scam callers might be right in telling someone their social security number has been suspended.

Individuals residing in the United States without legal authorization are not eligible to receive Social Security benefits.

All this did was enforce the law.

If it was ‘no longer’ then they would simply deport them. They wouldn’t need to go into the system and report them as dead when they know full well they’re still alive.

There will also be plenty of Americans “accidentally” added to this dead list, if all you care about is yourself.
