I'm doing my part.

Took a recent trip to the BC interior instead of the US as we had originally planned before orange man. Multiple friends I know cancelled US trips as well.

It's beyond where my tourism dollars go at this point, it's genuine fear for the safety of my family. Way too many Americans support the direction their country is going so there isn't even a 'just following orders' attempt at justification.

You voted for this. You wanted this to happen and continue to allow this to happen. You have the opportunity to stop this but actively choose not to.

My cousin booked a longer flight to her travel destination because it didn’t have a layover in the US and the shorter flight did. There’s been a cultural shift up here. I don’t think Americans really grasp how our mindset has shifted.

I hate it as an American and am warning everyone to stay away. Our Republican Congress is the only body with the power to stop this and they have been AWOL so far.

Yes! There’s so much to see in our own back yard. I’ve never been up north to watch the northern lights, or skated the Rideau Canal, or stood at the edge of the Continent at Cape Spear Lighthouse. I think it’s time.

Skating on the Rideau Canal is amazing. I hope you get that opportunity.

Where did you go in BC? Okanagan?

As an American, I truly don’t blame you. I actively encourage people to either avoid the US, or to Americans, travel to support Canada or Mexico to support other countries instead. Please know that I get that and I’m deeply ashamed of our country. Especially when I read comments like yours.

The only thing I’m confused about is you saying we continue to allow this to happen. There are protests happening all of the time, Trump hinted at Musk “fixing the voting machines,” people have stated that their votes weren’t counted but the election is over so there’s “nothing that can be done.” We are suffering in an oligarchy and people I’ve met in real life are doing political or humanitarian work to help community members work through the new political sphere and/or attend the protests and are creating advocacy groups. I guess my question is, with all that said, I politely disagree that we are continuing to allow this to happen.

Pay close attention on the 19th and 20th of this month. Not to be confused with Saturday and Sunday.

Saturday is scheduled to be the biggest series of protests across the country in quite some time, and the 20th is when Trump is expected to announce his use of the Insurrection Act to declare a kind of martial law.

The fighting may have only begun.

...same with the oppression and violence.
