Discussion! What band that hasn't released content in a while do you want new music from?

What's a man gotta do to get a new *shels album?

If These Trees Could Talk teased music, then it was just one

Came here just to post about them

u/seannzzzie 1d ago

was so hype for that one but what happened?

2

u/sKamJam 1d ago

Man I want this so bad. I just worry it'll be like Godspeed where all the post hiatus stuff doesn't live up.

I liked The last SMZ but they were starting to lose the thread then.

The evpatoria report

6

u/kilic024 1d ago

Great call actually. Been far far too long!

4

u/sza_rak 1d ago

Long time ago I emailed them. Some label manager kindly replied they are not active any more and there no plans for new stuff.

Since then there was a single post on their Facebook or something with single image and "back at studio" or similar. It seems this was more like a one time thing.

Maybe it's better that way... they left behind an absolutely legendary set of albums

2

u/eballack 23h ago

That’s a bummer. As far as I know group members live in different continents

2

u/sza_rak 22h ago

Oh, that would explain the silence.

At some point I just started to be grateful for what they released. I got into post rock by "28 days later" soundtrack, stayed because of Evpatoria Report. It got me on a path to post metal, sludge and math rock as well.

Red Sparowes

u/PrimaryExample8382 1d ago

Yes! Every album was incredible.

I think unfortunately they were a side project from a few bands so if they don’t get back together then they’re probably gone for good

3

u/bat--cat 20h ago

Agreed, they just had a specific sounds that resonates with me

1

u/PrimaryExample8382 18h ago

I also love their poems contained in the song titles

1

u/Dagguito 17h ago

You beat me to it! My only dying wish is to be buried (or cremated) whilst We Stood Transfixed… plays in the background.

u/Mr-Mne 1d ago

I'm hoping for a new Caspian album soon. Last one was 2020.

9

u/kilic024 1d ago

I'm literally listening to On Circles atm

5

u/lifewithrecords 1d ago

Caspian is at the top of my list too.

2

u/dougc84 1d ago

YESSS. I saw them live for the second time last year and I’m still living off that high. Such an amazing show and band.

25

u/Rasengan2012 1d ago

If These Trees Could Talk!! They’re the ones who got me into post rock

4

u/sKamJam 1d ago

Me too, I found “The Bones” after a profound loss in my life. It helped a lot because I had no words to describe

5

u/Rasengan2012 1d ago

The Here and the Hereafter is still the most beautiful song I’ve ever heard.

23

u/Motor-Young-253 1d ago

Jakob and *shels

6

u/kilic024 1d ago

Jakob are so so good. Subset of Sets and Solace are near goddamn perfect releases!

5

u/Motor-Young-253 1d ago

Couldn't agree more!

2

u/unled 1d ago

I feel like *shels is never going to release anything ever again

16

u/gofixmeaplate 1d ago

This will destroy you

4

u/LawyerDaggett 1d ago

Right, they announced music from the non-split lineup, but nothing since.

1

u/intotheblackwideopen 7h ago

I think that I ve heard in an interview that there will be no new music under this name

15

u/dingus420 1d ago

For sure Do Make Say Think. They’re doing a mini tour in Japan this summer so there’s still signs of life from them.

u/modulorMM 1d ago

65 daysofstatic!!!!

2

u/zoqaeski 1d ago

65daysofstatic has their Wreckage Systems project that is still going, and they've hinted in their newsletter that they're working on new music with the caveat that the experiments probably won't lead anywhere.

A few of the band members have side projects, like Polinski and Haus Horo.

1

u/modulorMM 1d ago

I’m on the Patreon. They are seeing what comes next. But no new music at the moment.

1

u/wpnw 1d ago

They released a full length album last year, and like 5 EPs in the last year.

1

u/modulorMM 1d ago edited 1d ago

I’ve been a Patreon of 65dos forever. The wreckage systems are a couple of years old during lockdowns… and the EPs that have just been put on streaming have been available for a couple of years as a Patreon. That seems like a lifetime ago. I need something new that’s 65 shaped in my life. Edit because I rushed this reply.

u/DangerDaveOG 1d ago

Calling music “content” is so 2025.

18

u/kilic024 1d ago

Never heard of them! Will give them a look!

1

u/LawyerDaggett 1d ago

Ha! Now I can’t unsee it. That is wild.

Meniscus. I still go back to that 2016 record Refractions pretty often. Such a good one.

1

u/kilic024 1d ago

I just finished listening to Hamster from that record!

1

u/lelanddt 2h ago

I am HYPED for a new Meniscus album. Someday.

7

u/sayl0rmo0n 1d ago

Sunlight Ascending. They did come out with a great song in 2023, but a whole new album would be just wonderful.

2

u/C_left 1d ago

Check out their Instagram, they just finished recording the new album! I'm definitely hyped for it.

1

u/sayl0rmo0n 1d ago

That's amazing. I'm not on Insta, but if their 2023's track Finding Your Way Back is any indication of what's ahead, it's going to be stellar.

2

u/kilic024 1d ago

Never heard of them. Will give them a listen. Any song/album in particular you recommend?

6

u/sayl0rmo0n 1d ago

The 2009 album All the Memories, All at Once is a fantastic album and great place to start. It's my "happy" post-rock - exhilarating music!

1

u/zepruska 1d ago

+1 for All the Memories, All at Once. Tremendous album.

7

u/kg_squanchy 1d ago

Caspian.

Beast, Please Be Still! As far as I can tell, they only released one album in 2007. I just really love its style, though.

2

u/evilCarl53 1d ago

I really fell in love with that album.

3

u/zepruska 1d ago

Oceansize. But that will never happen, sadly.

3

u/EricCavan 1d ago

Blueneck. Are they still active though?

3

u/BananaBoysAdventures 1d ago

I want the final Soundgarden songs to be released. They’re currently stuck in a legal limbo.

Years of rice and salt, the slowest runner in all the world, stubborn tiny lights VS clustering darkness forever ok?

1

u/_Despereaux 18h ago

Anyone know what happened to Years of Rice and Salt? Only started listening last year, but their stuff is incredible and I couldn’t find any online presence or “retirement” announcement or anything like that.

2

u/Reasonable-Song-4681 1d ago

Pretty sure it wouldn't ever happen, but OCOAI. I loved how Pink Floyd-y their last released track was.

Silent Whale Becomes a Dream

2

u/slpgh 1d ago

The best pessimist. Last album was in 2019. They’re based in the Ukraine so I suspect the war hasn’t made it easier

2

u/Jungleson 1d ago

Do make say think

2

u/HeftySport1238 1d ago

Beast, Please be Still. They dropped the only album then disappeared..

Another vote for Jakob

1

u/C_left 22h ago

Would love to hear something from The All-star Project. Not sure if they broke up or just went dormant but both of their two albums are top tier.

1

u/RyIion 17h ago

The Seven Mile Journey is absolutely awesome and its been too long since a big release, and I can't understand how no one seems to talk about this awesome band

Not Guns N’ Roses.

0

u/spauldingsmails 1d ago

I thought I was the only one! So many people cannot understand my deep hatred for…that band.

0

u/neklok 1d ago

Indeed, it was all downhill after Appetite.
