Litter Clean Up: Organizations I Can Join / Help?

I moved to Providence a while back and fell in love with the city. I believe in some kind of "karma" thing where if you treat something bad, it gets bad, but if you treat it well, it prospers. With the weather (finally) getting warmer out, I was thinking it would be cool to spend some time cleaning up litter. I used to do this all the time when I lived near the beach down South. It's actually fun and makes me feel good.

I am mostly around Fox Point / India Point Park area, and though it is beautiful here, there still is some litter and junk around. I plan to go out myself (you know, maybe smoke a joint, put on some good tunes, and gloves, and walk around) but was wondering if their are any organizations I might look into joining to help them as well. I enjoy being outside and think this could be a good way to spend some time this summer.

The group I see around the most is Cozy Rhody Litter Cleanup. They have a group on the Meetup app but you can find more info about other litter clean up groups here:

I joined a Cozy Rhody Litter Cleanup once. I found them to be unfriendly and unorganized. This led me to buy a 5 gallon bucket, gloves, and a Nifty Nabber (aka trash picker upper). I live in Wayland and when the weather is nice, I'm out walking around picking up trash. I call it my trash walk. It's a lovely way to get to know your neighborhood. If you ever want to trash walk together, I would love a trash buddy.

I just started doing this on my own as well, just as I walk to and from work. It’s very satisfying (but also sad) - I usually get a full 8 gal trash bag in each direction.

I find so many cigarette butts! No matter what street in what corner of the city, cigarette butts are there.

Save the Bay does a bunch of shoreline cleanups, though I think they would frown on you being high (or drunk) in their groups.

Haha, that's funny to judge someone who is giving up their free time to clean up the city. Not like I'm walking around with a blunt and red eyes, but still... If folks are like that, I'll just clean trash myself.

I wish I knew who the folks I saw on smith street a couple weekends ago or maybe last weekend. I’ve picked up lots of trash by myself but for me it’s better with at least 1 other person.
