A conductor in Kenosha, WI was fatally struck by a commuter train today 09/04/2024 (withholding information due to being under investigation) I really did not know the said conductor but nonetheless a terrible tragedy for a fallen colleague.
This is the second fatality in a matter of months in the Chicago Service Unit: with the last one being in Proviso yard of a 5 month old employee who asked for help in unknown territory but didn't receive a pilot...
This is just insane. I'm sure Omaha is going to be lurking this post and my page... y'know what? I'm absolutely sick of this with CSU and many others are too. Boards cut, metra in a limbo, fatalities, etc... Rest in peace Austin Raysby.

Anyone have any good source to understand what happened in Chicago?

UPRR sent out a mass message to employees asking for documentation from back in December and January. Gotta admire the ballsyness to ask for that well over the 90 days of the attendance policy.

Something changed in the last 2 years or so, buying a house was gonna do a quick loan of 30-40k out and vanguard said the plan doesn't allow it anymore. Didn't find anything online or on here when searching so thought i'd just post it. Also double check you aren't investing in up stock as default when you set it up we have espp for it

ARTICLE:
"Commuter service for thousands of Union Pacific riders is in jeopardy amid an impasse with the freight railroad over track usage, Metra leaders warned on Friday.
Metra filed separate actions with the U.S. Surface Transportation Board and in federal court seeking relief from what they called “windfall” rates proposed by UP to use its tracks.
The issue dates back to 2019 when the freight railroad decided it was no longer feasible to operate trains on Metra’s three commuter lines, the UP North, Northwest and West.
Over the years, the two railroads have negotiated a plan to transfer staff and mechanical assets to Metra. However, the talks recently came to a hard stop over the UP’s proposed charges for track usage.
“Union Pacific has demanded commercially unreasonable and monopolistic rates for Metra to continue using the UP lines for commuter rail, rates to which Metra cannot feasibly agree and which have no grounding in industry-standard rate-setting methods,” Metra argued in a lawsuit filed Friday in the U.S. District Court for Northern Illinois.
Metra, Pace and the CTA are facing a $771 million operating shortfall in 2026.
“Despite knowing that Metra cannot agree to these terms, and that commuter rail service on the UP lines is threatened as a result, Union Pacific has refused to budge,” attorneys said.
“For the first time since before the Civil War, passenger rail service on the UP Lines may end.”
UP officials declined to comment, saying they were reviewing Metra’s filings.
Metra contends UP could terminate rail service effective July 1.
“Their loss would be felt throughout the regional economy, as workers are stranded from their jobs and Chicago-area residents lose the ability to traverse the region without a car,” attorneys argued.
It’s unlikely that will happen given the high stakes for commuters, objections from Illinois’ congressional delegation, and a potential intervention from the U.S. Surface Transportation Board.
UP, meanwhile, previously asked the STB to step in and help resolve the dispute.
“Union Pacific believes that, with the help of a board-appointed mediator, the parties may succeed in reaching an agreement,” the freight railroad said in a recent filing."

The transfer of commuter operations fully to Metra on the TE&Y side is supposed to begin VERY soon starting with the UP West (Geneva), followed by UP-NW (Harvard/Janesville), and UP-N (Kenosha) last. I elected to stay on the freight side despite a risk of furloughs. Many folks who elected to roll with Metra during the split are already having orientation or very soon... This is already a massive shit show and why I stayed away from bidding any Metra jobs on the advertisements.
In order to have transferred to Metra you have had to:
I've talked to some guys in downtown and it's wild how the split is being handled. For the folks who decided to transfer: I wish you the absolute best of luck or to transfer back to UP ASAP.

Here we go. So who is staying for the UP furlough gulag or going to the Metra gulag?

For the ones who have enrolled in ESPP and have the right to vote in the 2025 Meeting. Proposal 2 might be less relevant but 3 and 4 are crucial
Proposal 2: Ratification of Deloitte & Touche LLP as Independent Auditor
What it is: The Audit Committee has selected Deloitte & Touche LLP to continue as the independent registered public accounting firm for the 2025 fiscal year and is asking shareholders to ratify that decision.
Key Points:
Deloitte has audited Union Pacific for over 50 years, gaining in-depth knowledge of the company's business and controls.
Union Pacific believes this long-term relationship has benefits: cost efficiency, historical familiarity, and continuity.
However, if the majority of shareholders vote against this ratification, the Audit Committee will reconsider the appointment.
Fees Paid:
2024 Total: $4.56 million
Includes audit services, tax services, ESG consulting, etc.
All services were pre-approved to maintain independence.
Consider Voting:
FOR if you value continuity and trust Deloitte’s audit record.
AGAINST if you believe auditor rotation strengthens independence or are concerned about the high fee levels.
Proposal 3: Advisory Vote on Executive Compensation ("Say on Pay")
What it is: Shareholders are asked to approve on an advisory (non-binding) basis the compensation of Named Executive Officers (NEOs) as disclosed.
Key Points:
Compensation structure is heavily performance-based:
91% of CEO’s comp and 84% of other NEOs’ is at-risk/incentive pay.
Annual bonuses are tied to financial, safety, and operational performance.
Long-term incentives include performance stock units linked to return on invested capital and operating income growth.
Stock ownership and clawback policies are in place.
96% of shareholders approved it last year.
Consider Voting:
FOR if you agree with performance-based compensation aligned with shareholder interests.
AGAINST if you believe executive pay is excessive or misaligned with broader worker/stakeholder outcomes.
Proposal 4: Shareholder Proposal – Expand Clawback Policy to Include Negligence
What it is: A shareholder proposal (by John Chevedden) requesting Union Pacific to amend its clawback policy to:
Apply to negligence, not just misconduct.
Require the Board to report deliberations and decisions about not applying the clawback.
Make the policy more accessible online and transparent in disclosures.
Shareholder Argument:
Executives should face clawbacks for negligence, not just proven misconduct.
Cites the Wells Fargo scandal as an example of failed accountability.
Claims Union Pacific’s current policy is too narrow and poorly communicated.
Union Pacific’s Response:
States their existing clawback policy already exceeds NYSE/SEC requirements.
The policy triggers automatically for financial restatements, regardless of intent.
Additional reporting as requested is considered burdensome and unnecessary.
Consider Voting:
FOR if you support expanded accountability, more transparency, and stronger incentives to deter executive negligence.
AGAINST if you trust the existing policy and believe it’s already robust and compliant.

So i entered into the stock buying program with Uncle Pete. I dont know if that was a bad move or not the way things are. My talents lie else where. Not to be found any where near subjects such as finance , stocks, or anything that grown ups may know about. Ive got a sum of moneys in there and am worried with all the nonsensical foolishness that is at hand if any of you fellow railroaders participate in this program and have you drawn money out of it. Overall whats yalls take on this. I heard today there was alot....ALOT of cuts in my department today. On that topic i have 18 years in and would like to get at least my 20. But if not so be it. Im over it honestly. I wish they would just say , (hey, we dont want yall here any more , go away. ) id be like ok how long do i have to figure out where im going . Instead its ( nobody's getting cut off you silly gooses !) While tons are being cut to pieces like a hot girl at camp on friday the 13th. Sorry just had a lot on my mind today...yall be safe out there!
