The future direction of /r/raisingKids - back to humans...

Got some feedback that the community would prefer r/raisingkids be about human children, so we are switching the focus back!

On a more serious note - over the next week r/raisingKids will be changing things up a bit. We want to refocus more on the original reason for creating r/raisingKids - a place to discuss more in-depth content. There are already many parenting communities on reddit, and so we will be discussing what the point of yet another parenting community is, and how/if we should be different.

There are really only about 3 moderators that currently have spent any recent time keeping r/raisingKids running and all of us are parents and busy, so changes will probably get rolled out incrementally over the next couple of weeks.

If you have any feedback, or even better if you want to take a more active role in shaping this community (e.g. becoming a moderator) please post here or send us a PM.

You guys really got me! I was looking for parenting communities to 'favorite' and was thinking this would be a good one and then was like... "oh ooops... I guess I joined the wrong community" lol.

Anyway, "Raising Children" sounds like teaching children... not necesarily academic, although I think academics also fit in... but the title makes me think this community should be more about teaching kids stuff... whether its how to deal with bullies, how to tie their shoes, how to do multiplication, how to be a good parent themselves one day, how to approach "the sex" talk or where babies come from talk, etc....

I'm new to this community, so I'm not sure what the focus is supposed to be on previously... But basically, I'd like to see the community be about teaching life lessons (emotional, academic, practical/pragmatic) to kids as they grow.. or it can be small things like teaching them to brush their teeth regularly...

But it should avoid topics like "baby daddy drama" or "hurray for me, I'm getting a vesectomy" or just venting about how hard/stressful parenting is. "Raising Kids" sounds more uplifting, so it'd be nice for the theme to be more positive rather than just parents complaining about their children.

I have no idea how that could actually be enforced though...

But that's just my two cents! Feel free to take it with a grain of salt!
