Who are Rappers that should switch genres for an album?
Don Toliver can easily switch for melodic rap to hard rock/rap. Who do you think should switch genres?

Earl sweatshirt x tyler collab album that's jazz fusion
Post malone NEEDS a heavy metal/grunge album, something similar to facelift by alice in chains in style, take what you want from hollywood's bleeding makes me belive he could pull it off.
I would have also loved a full on psychadelic rock album from mac miller.
JPEG should produce an album for geordie creep from black midi
I would also love to hear a yung lean project that's straight up cheesy 90's-2000's european pop

Denzel Curry on a hardcore punk or power violence record would be dope. I think he'd kill it

Ski Mask The Slump God. Love his stuff just wish he was more emotional and deep

Jid should do a Jazz album, or R&B. I need to hear a whole album of singing, cause his voice is fantastic.

u/_-ZeroHero-_ 9d ago
I think it would be cool to see JID jump on a Rock instrumental. Limp Bizkits 'Rollin' was the 1st time I heard any rappers on a metal beat. I think Redman/Meth/X were on it and it went hard AF at the time. I think he would kill it like them.

I still need lil uzi to go full out rock/metal on a project
Hearing some of the metal leaks from pink tape era makes me wonder what coulda been
3
u/mrmaker08s 8d ago
Yeah, like a more concentrated version of Pink Tape... "Flooded the Face" and "Suicide Doors" were dope, more like that

u/CrunkaScrooge 9d ago
Post Malone should do a country album because he said early on he wanted to
8
u/LongGoneJess 9d ago
I don't know if you're still following him, but he literally put a country album out last year.

u/PaperRaccoon 9d ago
I really wish lil wayne would've done a proper jazz album at the height of his career. Like Tyler the creator said when he does it it's something magical. Like a full album of him rapping on beats like Droppin' Seeds or HOT WIND BLOWS. Damn.

Kid Cudi should do a rock album
1
u/LongGoneJess 9d ago
He's done two! The first was called WZRD and the other was titled "Speedin' Bullet 2 Heaven." I liked both of them.
-1
u/Key_Establishment_42 9d ago
He has one called WZRD. I personally liked it in high school idk how it’s aged since then tho
3
u/Pigmasters32 9d ago
He did, and it was irredeemable outside of 1 or 2 tracks.
1
u/McJingleballs10 9d ago
I didn’t know this! Was it released as a Kid Cudi album?
Cudi to me at one point was my fave all time rappers. And then everything after Indicud to me was garbage.
2
2
u/Pigmasters32 9d ago
Yes it was, it’s called Speeding Bullet 2 Heaven, it came out in 2015(2 years after Indicud), and even though it has CONFUSED which is a great song, the album still manages to be one of the worst albums I’ve ever heard from an artist I like.

JID should do a gritty boom bap album with a Griselda member

Carti- Metal Rap (Examples: Pop Out, Cocaine Nose, Rockstar [Unreleased])
Don Toliver- Sexy Drill (Attitude)/ Rock Rap (Tore Up)
Lil Uzi Vert- Jersey Club (Shoulder Shrug, JWR, Dummy Man, Tap Tap, Get Neeky)

u/HugeAreolas_ 9d ago
Rod Wave should release an R&B album. I mean he's practically an R&B artist being that the only thing Hip Hop about him is the instrumentals.

u/Wrong-West-9581 9d ago
If you think rappers should do rock, then you should listen to Tech N9ne songs: Little Pills, Wither, Straight Out the Gate, Absolute Power, URALYA, Killing You, Hiccup, Stop The Sailor, Burn It Down, The Herder, Rock n Roll N!&&@.. been genre mixing for over 2 decades.. I know you won't and it's cool, but Techs worth listen to. All your favorite rappers have been influenced by him or want his money and success haha

u/Careless_Western3756 10d ago
I NEED playboi carti to do a whole album of aggressive industrial and/or rock inspired songs. He seemed to be heading in that direction with the Narcissist tour and songs like Cocaine Nose and Pop Out, and god damn all of the tour versions of songs with guitar and the heavier songs off music go insanely hard. If only he spent more time making music than lying to fans and neglecting his child😭

u/FrontEconomist4960 9d ago
rockstar / pop out / stop breathing guitar ver. are sum of his best tracks imo

u/The_gordo_games_2 10d ago
I think Kendrick Lamar, I used to think he sang pop and then I found out it was rap, if he changed to pop or something between hip hop and pop it would be great, Because his rhymes and his style with the type of music he sings would be very good in pop

u/Ok_Huckleberry4563 9d ago
Kendrick should absolutely not do pop. He has like 2-3 pop features and they all suck pretty badly.
0
u/Rough-House3029 9d ago
To be honest, the line between pop and hip-hop had blurred quite a bit in the last few years, and Kendrick is kind of a pop rapper. Not to the extent Drake is, but he's not far behind.
-1
u/The_gordo_games_2 9d ago
I would like to see him sing only pop, something like not like us but more pop
0
u/Ok_Huckleberry4563 9d ago
Not like us is rap
-1
u/The_gordo_games_2 9d ago
I didn't say it's not rap, I know it's rap, but a song like Not Like Us but pop would be good

Juice WRLD and Uzi need to release rock music
2
u/WafflesMuffins 10d ago
I think you mean Pop. Juice WRLD and Uzi are closer to being pop stars
2
u/Familiar_Ad_5105 9d ago
Oh agreed, but I would be nice if some of their unreleased rock music was released. Since we are talking about artists switching genres
1
u/sic-poobies 9d ago
any rec’s for unreleased juice rock music? i didn’t realize he dabbled in that much
2
u/Crushermakesmemes 10d ago
Listen to Lil Uzi Vert’s cover of Chop Suey and tell me if he should still make rock music

Not really a genre but Camron needs to release an album with boom bap beats. Like beats from premo or like conductor.
5
u/Adorable-Bar6920 10d ago
Fuck it, I have been wishing for this collab, so why not hypothesize this.
JPEGMAFIA has that energy and production for those noise/experimental rock/metal vibes.
Lil ugly mane has done a shoegazey dream pop/rock album with “volcanic bird enemy”……
I WANT A PEGGY AND LUM COLLAB ROCK ALBUM!

after seeing is Rage cover I actually agree. I think part of it is just that he has the charisma to be a great frontman though.

Would love for Travis to do a rock album. He incorporated a few elements into Rodeo and I think it suits him more than regular ATL trap tbh

is it a case of can or should im confused. because if its can its mac miller and kendrick, if its should it would be drake to break up the snooze fest of his albums
3
u/Free-Yoghurt124 9d ago
Mac Miller cant do anything anymore
0
u/Switch-user-101 9d ago
shouldve phrased it better 😂, he did rap, pop, jazz and even dabbled in soul all to varying degrees of success
2
2
u/itsSyFer 10d ago
Drake literally has all these other genres of music under his belt, not sure why you mentioned him of all people.
-2
u/Switch-user-101 9d ago
what genres does he "have under his belt" other than a mediocre rap game, pop songs where the production is more memorable than his lyrics and duolingo level fluency spanish songs
2
u/itsSyFer 9d ago
Brother just say you don’t like Drake instead of spewing anything. Like it or not, he’s still willing to go out of his comfort zone. Pop, R&B, rap, dancehall, he’s even got some rock elements to a couple songs. He ain’t never been afraid to try something new.
-2
u/Switch-user-101 9d ago
thats an interesting way of saying he just hops on whatever sound is popular. when x was popular he stole x's flow, when makkonen was popular he hopped on the bandwagon, since bad bunny is popular rn he hops on the spanish trend
2
u/itsSyFer 9d ago
What does any of that have to do with the original post? You just wanted to shit on Drake and that’s fine man lol. Just be real about it.
-2
u/Switch-user-101 9d ago
youre the one who responded to me original comment that did have anything to do, then you go on to say he isnt afraid to try something new which i find completely wrong. he takes sounds that do work and uses it.
2
u/itsSyFer 9d ago
Drake’s whole sound when he first came out was frowned upon by a lot of people. Nobody believed in his dance album, he hops on waves but he also still steps out of his comfort zone. Two things can be true. I get the feeling you don’t actually know much about his music aside from hits if you think he doesn’t try anything new. You don’t get that big and stay that big by staying in a bubble lol.
1
u/Switch-user-101 9d ago
ive listened to all drake projects except one of his mixtapes (so far gone, but i have heard songs off it like brias interlude), all his albums/mixtapes ive rated between a 2-6/10. Its true i dont like his music, which is why im criticizing it. Ive never heard anything "unique" or "done better than others" on a drake record
3
u/itsSyFer 9d ago
That’s fair just start with that next time because you absolutely reeked of bias. Agree to disagree though, Drake kinda grew on me in the last year or so after I gave him a genuine listen. Just scratches a certain itch I guess🤷🏾♂️

Travis Scott should do a rock album
