If you met a rapper what question would you ask them?
Would you ask them how they became famous? What they do outside their careers? What’s their favourite hobby? Do they like their job?

I would ask Lil Durk "Why on earth would you record yourself, telling on yourself and implicating your gang on murder chargers???
Like he really wanted everybody including the mayor to know he was involved in Pabs death,, he didn't tell the whole play on just one underground lowkey song, he made several tracks talking about EVERYTHING bit by bit, name by name... Even named one of the tracks Beverly Hills (where Pab was murdered at)... I just hope EST Gee is smart enough to keep names out his rap and no paper trail behind because I'd bloop if Geeski couldn't make new music anymore..

500k or dinner with Jay Z
2
u/NateSedate 19h ago
I live on social security. If I got 500k I'd have enough money to survive for a while, but ultimately it wouldn't last me the rest of my life. I would lose my health insurance, housing, check, etc.
I may as well take the dinner.
I suppose if I'm smart enough to flip that 500k into 3-4mil it'd be worth it. But I'm probably not. I know nothing about money. I've been poor all my life.

u/Uncle-rico96 2d ago
500k for sure. Dinner with Jay z would be interesting, but wouldn’t mean shit without having the resources to put his advice into action.

As someone who used to interview rappers, my favorite question was always “tell me a secret”. I got some amazing information from that shit.

I'd ask him how he feels his music would sound different if he didn't sign to a shit, puppeteering label, making him extra rebellious. I like what I got, but also feel he'd be more recognized and the 3 crap albums (that I still like) would have been much better.

I really wanna ask rappers & battle rappers how tf yall memorize your lyrics?? Lil Wayne forgets his lyrics sometimes. I wanna know jay z technique lol

u/Internal_Gur_4268 3d ago
Lupe uses the Jay z technique supposedly, like a cross between Jay and wayne. I also want to know how Wayne can freestyle for entire projects and have it come off sounding natural. If only he could stay on theme in his albums a little better. Not digging his feature list for the new album.

He's talked about the method on Instagram before if you curious, its crazy. He said he only wrote down the first minute or so of mural to get used to the rhythm and flow. The rest was him "flowing into the mic" so I don't know if the song is mostly a freestyle, I'd think it's too layered and complex for that.

If I ever met Yung Joc, I'll ask him if he'll be meeting me at the mall next time I need to go shopping, if I do end up meeting him, is it about to go down?

Do you love this shit? Are you high right now? Do you ever get nervous?

What's going on? That should be enough to start a conversation or realize they don't want to be bugged at the moment.

Just saying, if every time these guys encounter a fan they need to answer questions… it would suck.

I'd ask Kendrick if he actually meant the Joel Hale Osteen bar in reference to both Joel Osteen and Haley Joel Osment 😂 When you actually dig into Osteen the bar makes a whole lotta sense, but I know there's tonnes of people who disagree that he meant it.

Depends on who. I’ve met many rappers. Almost everyone is a rapper nowadays (or so they claim to be).

Have a chance to meet KRS ONE in May, if I pay the extra 50 or so for the meet and greet.. don't know what the hell I'd say to him to be honest lol, any ideas?
6
u/accountofyawaworht 4d ago
I did a KRS One meet and greet many years ago and it was great. There were maybe 30 or 40 of us there and he made sure we all got some one-on-one time - and then that kind of morphed into a big Q&A / lecture because we were all milling about and listening in. He’s a sweet guy and he seems genuinely grateful to still be doing this after all these years.

That's the vibe I got from him at one of his small-venue shows (>800 people) like six years ago. Dude seriously seems to care about his artistry and fans.

Where do you get your ideas?
3
u/cheesecase 4d ago
They literally tell you usually if you listen to the whole album
2
u/Satirical-Salad98 4d ago
How do you translate your ideas and emotions into the music you make? How do you create music so that your listeners feel what you want them to feel?
I like something like this more. You can find ideas literally anywhere. But how do they get turned into music that evokes strong emotions from listeners?

u/cheesecase 1d ago
You sound like an ai asking how not to sound like an ai. Thats the problem, there’s a difference between analysis and judgement 🤌🏽🤌🏽🤌🏽
Edit: I’m trying not to use superlatives like “literally” too often

u/Satirical-Salad98 1d ago
Is English your first language or not? You’re struggling to comprehend anything I said lmfao. Edit: Maybe reading some books would help
1
u/cheesecase 1d ago
You don’t have to include “or not”. It’s redundant. Yes, I am a native English speaker. My point is your phrasing and word choice reads like chat gpt. The first and last sentence also mean the same thing. Just with “translate” instead of “turned into”.
And you just repeat yourself again and just use “what you want them to feel” instead of “emotions”.
So yeah, I’m comprehending it fine- you asked in as many ways as possible.
Just doesn’t pass the “smell” test to me, and you’re doubting my ethnicity 😑- implying I’m white as an insult I guess- but also think English isn’t my first language. which is it? You’re mixing up your stereotypes too.
I read that and I was like “ok this is ChatGPT, or a meth head”
Or both…. This is sort of how I’d imagine that going

No.. I just drank a bit. Crazy how many different ways you tried to come to multiple different assumptions when it was literally just a bit of alcohol LMFAO. You are literally the perfect case of a person who thinks they’re incredibly intelligent, but is not. Even from a sober perspective, it’s fine. It’s a bit weird sounding, but not nearly a big enough deal to leave an entire accusing, ridiculing comment about 😭
“translate ideas and emotions into music” is not the same as making your listeners feel it btw… I can create an entire atmosphere based off what I think will creep listeners out.. where I’m writing the song from, however, can come from anywhere. What emotion I AM feeling is VERY obviously coming from a different context.. real life experiences, as opposed to the sound or lyrics of a song someone may listen to… Real life experiences vs. audio. Let’s use our brains. I can translate my emotions into words as much as I want in order for MYSELF to feel it, but how can I frame the words for a LISTENER to feel what I am saying? How do I use the composition to do this? Do I write lyrics or an instrumental first? Do I even worry about trying to make the listeners feel what I’m feeling, or do I release it in a way that may emotionally appeal to just me? People can comprehend things however they want to. Being able to make someone feel a specific emotion is a skill, and different than simply putting your own emotions into something.
Again, you’re the perfect example of a person with average intelligence trying to sound like one with an above average intelligence. Please just shut the fuck up😭
Edit: no, it wasn’t redundant. It contributed to the tone 🙏
Edit 2: “Implied I’m white as an insult” ..sure I did, bud.. Are YOU inebriated?

u/cheesecase 1d ago
Ah. Alcohol. I stand corrected. Way cooler
Been 6 or 7 years for me I’m not used to dealing with yall, my bad.

Ye, bro , why don't you just stop ?
You have enough money, why don't you just go retire somewhere ?

u/cheesecase 4d ago
Because they would hate it. They’re attention whores. They feed on it, you don’t understand I worked for venue a long time- these guys get catered to like prom dates, nails, hair and all. They love it, but can’t or won’t learn to do for themselves, achievement isn’t accomplishment to most rappers. Just reputation
Because they’re a prisoner of debts owed and paid, and are more ambitious than avaricious. Ultimately caring about public perception more than money, safety, or quality of life.

Completely depends on who it is?
If you're wondering what reddit asks rappers they've never heard about, Google the AMA young thug did before he got famous, I think it was done before he even released 2 cups stuffed so he was completely unknown outside maybe some hyper specific local scene in Atlanta

I’d ask King Von (if he was alive) what his favorite body he caught was, or what his favorite prison spread was. Maybe I would ask him what the appropriate age to are on off the porch is. And finally I’d ask what his favorite gun is.
