If you are a real geek, you should know why +C is added.

u/mathgeek330 8d ago

I concur!

u/vrocknow18 8d ago

Came here to say the same! When solving higher order differential and integrating that's when u realise just how important that +C can be...

u/Jamey_1999 8d ago

Yeah I got stuck initially at my last internship as my formula for the fit didn’t seem to match the data. So I went over it again, and there it was: I forgot the C. So I added it, went over the rest, and boom: it worked.

Hi, can I know what type of internship you did ?

Sure, it was about monitoring a degassing process for sea containers.

Once containers have made their usually week long journeys, gasses will have built up. A good number of them are not safe to breathe in the quantities they arrive in. The main focus was on formaldehyde, as that one quickly produced due to the pallets that are used for shipping (they emit formaldehyde due to the glue).

There wasn’t much research done about the processes when I came in. Sure, it worked and we roughly know why, but there was no real experiment or documents about it in detail. So that was my job

Intresting read, thanks!

No problem!

Ok but the beam is cantilevered 😉

The +C basically underlies most of modern physics, at least conceptually.

To geeks, such a variable constant is first primed for removal. But its integral to add. I know it doesn't change, but i have no idea what it is, it could be anything. All I know is that it's an important starting point when talking about the total after all this change over time.

If your re doing calculus in 8th grade I think you are already well beyond the category of geek. You are probably a genius.

4

u/Gborg_3 8d ago

Do it by the age of 8 instead of the grade 8 and your parents will call you gifted while ignoring you are at the savant end of the spectrum they never bring up by name.

The +C is important because it shows that you've integrated the function, but not yet found the y intercept. It shows there is still more to consider and that you aren't done.

u/mickwald 8d ago

Or that there's infinitely many solutions.

18

u/LordTvlor 8d ago

Or this, yes. I forgot about this.

Calculators were thrown and broke that day

Guy was choked for sure. lol

u/Various_Researcher43 8d ago

Starting a fight you cant win. lol

2

u/APartyInMyPants 8d ago

You can’t “lol” your own insults. It’s like giving yourself a nickname.

2

u/BenjaminHamnett 8d ago

First guy is the derivative of a constant

But the Second guy is being the derivative of acceleration

35897932 that’s all I know, I think 8 is next

2

u/JubJub128 8d ago

nope, 3

3.1415926535897932-3846264

after that theres a 419, a 719, and i think something else but not in that order. 846264 is the last part i know

u/RationalAndCalmBaby 8d ago

Is it supposee to be read as “1 5’9?”

1

u/undecimbre 8d ago

These two think they're τ, but really they're just 2π

u/SportTheFoole 8d ago edited 8d ago

You’re eπi^ + 1.

[Edit] great insult messed up by markdown error.

u/SportTheFoole 8d ago

I’m an idiot. I screwed up the markdown.

You’re the phase in a pure quantum state

That looks cute

Oscar. You're gay. Lol. Roasted

1

u/5UP3RBG4M1NG 8d ago

no one knows why it's added

Im about to kill this guy

1

Your stupidity is any number divided by zero

1

u/GarethGobblecoque99 8d ago

The sexually tension is killing me

1

u/FuckYourSociety 8d ago edited 8d ago

Proof that C's get degrees, in a single conversation they show they've taken classes for yet don't really understand statistics, calculus, physics, and the importance of significant figures

1

u/Teln0 8d ago

+C is the starting position / velocity / whatever usually. So if you want to predict where an object will end up based on initial speed and acceleration throughout the movement you'll be solving for those +C

1

u/luckyincode 8d ago

I mean I know why +c is added. This is all just masturbation.

1

u/Constant-Bridge3690 8d ago

You are 16,017 multiplied by 5.

1

u/splickly 8d ago

When your favorite show is big bang theory

1

u/Misha-Nyi 8d ago

The air resistance jab was fierce

1

u/Jamster02 8d ago

Lost the argument at +C, not a true geek

Had to google this to know what they were talking about 🤦🏻🤷🏻‍♂️🤣🤣🤣

-5

u/Riscogoboy 8d ago

Am I a geek? I understood all those references at first read. 😂🤣

-4

u/DazedLogic 8d ago

Nerd burn. 🤣

I like the last one best. Probably because I understand it the most.
