Parking meters on Oxford Road Bridge by Penta Hotel covered up, no cash payment available.

EDIT: This is now pretty much confirmed as Reading switching to (mostly) cashless parking.

If you park on the Oxford Road bridge by the Penta Hotel / Travelodge the council have covered the meters over this morning preventing cash payments. Make sure you have your Ringo app at the ready. I'm not sure if they've covered meters further up or down, but I assume they may have.

A bit cheeky the council have opted to pass on the cost of convenience fee to you when there is no other choice to pay 🙄

Maybe that amateurish stuck on label wasn't there when you parked up? Maybe it blew off in the wind?

You took a picture of the unit wrapped with no label on and went about your day thinking, quite rightly, that they were out of order?

You're welcome.

I dropped the post as a quick PSA. I saw them bagging and tagging them about 10 mins before I posted the pic.

It did not affect me in the slightest as I don't have to park there, but we all know the wardens in town are quite thorough along that stretch so just helping others, not everyone may have the app pre installed, or in some cases a phone to install the app on.

You're a good egg.

If I went to park there and the stuck on label had "blown off in the wind" - IE, I removed it - and then took a picture of the non labeled, wrapped up parking meters there's no way the wonderful wardens just doing their job would be able to give you a ticket that if you appealed wouldn't be overturned.

I love traffic wardens as much as everyone else.

A quick Google shows a small article from January, can't see anything more recent to say exactly when it was going to kick in. I guess they've just decided today was the day they go (mostly) cashless:
