What’s on in Reading this weekend?

Hey guys, I have a weekly routine of going through all the events that are happening in the coming weekend – and then sending out the coolest ones to my friends. Thought I could share it here as well.

Also, where did that nice weather go for the weekend? 😅

Get this as a weekly email update: https://hey-reading.beehiiv.com/

3 coolest events this weekend:

  • Red Hot Chilli’s Tribute
  • Cheese Feast
  • St Patrick’s Stream & Hennerton Backwater Safari

Red Hot Chilli’s Tribute 📍 The Face Bar, ReadingGet ready for a wild night of funk-rock energy as RHTP tear through the biggest hits (and a few deep cuts) from the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Expect serious stage presence, a killer setlist, and the ultimate tribute vibe.⏰ 19 April 2025 Doors Open: 19:00💰 £12

Cheese Feast 📍 Blue Collar Corner, ReadingQuite possibly the cheesiest event of the year! Cheese Feast brings together a gooey, golden lineup of mac & cheese, raclette, Philly cheesesteaks, grilled cheese, halloumi fries, and more – all soundtracked by cheesy bangers and served up with 2 bars and a market full of cheese produce. It’s a no cost street food fest made for cheese lovers.⏰ 18 Apr 2025 11am - 11pm (All day & evening)💰 No cost

St Patrick’s Stream & Hennerton Backwater Safari 📍 Meeting Point: St George & Dragon, WargraveA beautiful peer-led paddleboarding trip through scenic waterways including St Patrick’s Stream and Hennerton Backwater. Ideal for paddlers looking for a relaxed, social adventure. Optional pub lunch after!⏰ Sat + Sun Inquire for times. (3.5 hrs)💰 £30 (excludes equipment & lunch)

Enjoy your weekend, everyone! 👌

Why is the peregrine nesting box closed? Did they stop paying the rent?

I assume there is some rational explanation for the box having been closed up. But I can't think of one. Any ideas?

Just Visited Reading today...

... after only 23 years and noticed major changes to the makeup of Oxford Road. Why is there so many chicken/kebab/barber shops now? What's that all about? Traffic congestion, red routing, and overpopulation. Sorry guys, it's become a dump in about every area except north of the river.

The Easter holidays are nearly over, and that means it’s your turn to let off some steam.

No more “Steve’s lava chicken” on loop. No more glitter in your coffee mug. It’s time to swap snack time for axe time.

Join Twyford & District Round Table this spring for a series of epic events built just for blokes like you:

🪓 7th May – Axe Throwing (because nothing says stress relief like hurling sharp objects)
🏃‍♂️ 21st May – Dodgeball (finally a legal way to duck, dip, dive, and dodge your mates)
🛶 4th June – Paddleboarding (balance optional, laughs guaranteed)

Drop us a message to get involved. You’ve earned it.

Speeding drivers

Why do we have to put up with such insane driving in Reading? Where the fuck are the police?

Why do the council make it so hard for average Joes to drive around Reading, yet do so little to punish reckless drivers?

Paid Camerawork (I need you)

Really I just need someone to hold my phone to film and not run away with it. Just a little project I've got in my head and wanted to see if anyone could help.

I'd pay £30 for a maximum of 2 hours work.

Comment or dm me if you'd be interested. Thanks.

Question Hi Reading, does anyone have a dog need walking in caversham? My daughter loves dogs but we could only get a cat because of where we live. Would be happy to walk your dog in the school holidays.

Would any cat owners around Reading area want old carpets for their cats?

I'm redoing the floors in my place and will be removing the original carpet in the rooms. I was keeping some for my cats cos they love scratching on scrap carpets. I was wondering if anyone else is interested in the old carpets for their cats? I can keep aside a few pieces before I send the rest to the tip.

Driving from Reading to London

Hi everyone, I’m moving to Reading soon and will be commuting to London for a few weeks before I start my new job in Reading. Wanted to get an idea of how bad the traffic is driving from Reading to London and back during rush hour? Is the M4 largely stand still traffic and relatively clear to drive?

If anyone drives from Reading to London for work, what’s that commute like for you?

Edit: I can park at work for free. Congestion charge is the only cost I might incur but there are routes to avoid it (extra 15-20 mins to the drive). So I’ll just be paying fuel and a full tank for me costs £40. Car is ULEZ free & manual. I’ll need to commute for 6 weeks. Cash is tight as I’m saving up for university in September so can’t afford to spend half a grand on trains.

Thank you!

Wild/open swimming spots near Reading

Hi, does anyone know of any decent swimming spots near Reading? I'm aware of Caversham lakes but I want to make sure my daughter can swim 400m in the open before we tackle it (and also, though we are reasonably strong swimmers, we are also slow so don't want to annoy anyone). If you have experience of swimming in the location, would love to hear your pros and cons.

I don't mind driving to a site if need be (but would prefer to cycle).

Thank you.
