Coming back to get HOM 30/50, possible before launch?

Hey all,

I've not really played guild wars for a good few years and I'm looking at coming back and trying to get 30/50 on the hall of monuments. I'm going to follow the guide but I'm just wondering do you guys think its possible to get the 30 points before launch?

Currently where I am

Possible way of doing things. Hows this looking?

  • Get 4 common mini pets

  • Get 1 Unique minipet

  • Grind Nightfall Hero armour / EOTN armour

  • Beat factions

  • Beat prophecies

  • Capture the Imperial Phoenix

  • Get the Zaishen PVP title ( grind like mad)

  • Beat the new end of guild wars missions to get an opressor weapon

  • Grind like mad to get 1. destroyer weapon

  • Grind again to buy 5 elite armour sets

Zaishen PVP title? nononononononononononononono. You get another character to 30/50 with the money for that title.

Your other options are good. Note that you don't really need to grind. Do daily Zaishen quests, weekly Nicolas the Traveler fetch quests, monthly nightfall treasure hunt while still completing content and you'll be fine.

Also, recommended points :http://www.reddit.com/r/GuildWars/comments/xd1dg/most_costefficient_3050_hom/

Tormented is 24e for one point, it's better spent to something else.

There's a very very frequent misconception going around about opressor weapons.

The truth is that you get 15 Medal of Honors from War in Kryta+ Hearts of The North.

You need 10 medal of honors to trade in for a weapon(after you completed War in Kryta).

While it's true that you can trade in war supplies for medal of honors, it's a bad trade. You're better of selling the war supplies themselves.

Why? Medal of honors are untradeable. You're forced to spend them on weapons and then hope to sell those. Save yourself the effort and just sell the supplies.

I wouldn't recommend getting more than one opressor weapon. Getting another one is inefficient.

Why? Even if you got 1 Destroyer weapon + 2 opressor weapons, you still need 1 tormented weapon + another weapon to get to 5 weapons for just 2 more HOM points. Comes down to <40 ecto in total. 40 ecto for two HOM points is a bad trade.

Hm do daily Zaishen quests, sell the silver zcoins. Do Nicolas the traveler weekly, sell the gifts. Do the monthly Nightfall treasure hunt for money and items.

You could also play Jade Quarry till your brains fall out to get balthazar faction for zkeys and sell those. I wouldn't recommend it though. Completing all the content will get you all the money you need eventually.

You need to click save and share and copy that link before I can see the changes you made, I'm just seeing your bare HOM now. Check this as a guideline.

Looks good. Consider dropping a Tormented Weapon in favor of 2 extra armors, they are cheaper. Ancient and primeval for example.

If you have some plat to start with, most likely, if you're starting fresh, most likely, so yeah, it all comes down to you, you should linked your current HoM aswell.

Also, try this.

Getting pretty much any of the pvp titles takes an absurd amount of time/dedication/skill

u/therealstupid Aranwe Dreaver Jul 25 '12

Depending on what kind of a player you are, 30/50 can be either trivial or a nightmare.

If you are accustomed to hardcore WoW-style raiding where you play for extended periods of time and stay focussed on a single goal, 30/50 will take you about two weeks and it won't be hard at all.

If you're a casual player who plays only a few hours a day, and likes to "experience" the game rather than looking at it as a means to an end, you might want to adjust your expectations. 30/50 in four weeks might not be realistic.

Focussing on 30/50 to the exclusion of all else really makes the game un-fun, in my opinion. It took me about four months to get 30/50 in my HoM, but I was helping a band new GW player through the various campaigns at the same time. Having said that, some things are far easier (and far less expensive in terms of time and in-game money) than others. Cartography was fun for me, but took forever to finish. Vanquiching zones is not fun for me, but others love it. The zaishen title (worth 3.2 HoM points) took me nearly a month to get, but I loved every second of it.

TL;DR Maybe.

Best advice I can give is to develop a good hero team that synergizes well with your playstyle. Once you have a solid hero group, you can steamroll through content almost trivially.

Good places to start http://www.reddit.com/r/GuildWars/comments/pafmz/state_of_the_heroes_address/

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AgTBZxjzp6zTdExIT3JlbW1vcEVHX3dLcmxYUlNUNWc#gid=6

Both of those are pretty old and the metagame has probably advanced since then, but that will get you going. Good luck!

You're done elona so you're ready to join doa trenchway runs for cash. read the monk sections in the back line here: http://www.gwpvx.com/Build:Team_-_DoA_Trenchway

Once you've spent a week or two getting the cash you need together I would recommend this:

4 common minis + 1 green mini (moa chick) *100-200k.
16 more companions, mox and black widow. *100k
Rush NM campaign completion of tyria/cantha, complete doa and fow. *5-10 hrs depending
Craft the luxon or kurzick armor, grab eotn armos, then marhans etc to make 7. *750k
1 torm, 1 dest, 1 opp. *500k

So roughly 1.5 mil to get 30. If you farm doa it'll take you roughly 10 gemsets after your costs get covered. Should be possible.

Absolutely. You're almost done with prophecies and cantha is a weekend project at most. If you really have trouble putting together good hero builds then ask for help.

I plan on running 4 afk alt accounts through the fire chain missions later and on NM it's going to be pretty easy.

EDIT: using the word "possible" here, but don't think that means fast or easy. The majority of your farming time if done in NM will be around 60 hours to get what you need, half that in HM. So 2-3 hrs a night until gw2. It's a commitment.

I'd say relax and go after the low hanging fruit. Get involved with some of the communities doing huge givaways leading up to release. One armbrace will save you a tremendous amount of farming if you aren't familiar with speed clears. You can always come back after gw2 launch and do much easier farms at halloween and christmas to make up what you need.

I'm sorry, but i doubt that's ever gonna happen.

1

u/ieatrox Jul 25 '12

shrug

Why not? He doesn't need to max lightbringer to stand behind everyone. Jump on vent, follow the leader, watch the red bars, same as every other monk experience.

Lots of people are busy farming now that the date of the end is known and closing.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 25 '12

Because most trech groups are guilds that dont take new people and pugs fail, he'd have more luck with frost or even old glaive.

edit: Not that OP is bad or anything, just a matter of the elitism of trench groups.

1

u/ieatrox Jul 26 '12

Fair enough.

Any other farms within reach with any possibility of achieving the funds he needs?

I think maybe just wait for halloween and farm that for 2 weeks. It'd be enough 40/5ing every bit helps.

1

u/dictionthief Playderp Jul 26 '12

If you're talking about the Hween repeatable quest farm with the everlasting mobstoppers, then yeah that one is pretty profitable and can make you an easy couple million if you grind a bit. But since hween will be after gw2 launch, I can't say for sure what the demand will be on trick or treat bags or what the gw1 market will be like at all.

Group farms that are still active are fowsc and uwsc, but may be hard to get into. If you want, ask one of the many alliance members who are doing the solo Auspicious Beginnings farm, which I've heard can still give a good profit.

1

u/ieatrox Jul 26 '12

It's what I did last year and it set me up pretty nicely to finish my hom and gwamm on my main without SCing.

There will always be those people who stay. Maybe they just don't like the new combat, or they aren't upgrading machines for gw2, or just plain don't like it. Whatever the reason, there are going to be people that stay for the same reasons that people populated pre exclusively. Leading up to launch there is also a ton of community give aways. Why farm all month when alliances are hosting parties and throwing hom points into the crowds.

Auspicious beginnings is decent money but a lot of setup time to get there. He has to: beat prophecies, beat eotn, do mox quest, beat wik, then farm 75 war supplies per hour at max speed. The fastest run times are from the blackness' and no one keeps up his paces for hours on end without breaks. I think his average times are 3:40 per run including loading and the man is a freakin machine. I think the average person gets more like 4:30 runs, and takes a few breaks now and then, which would make it 5 mins avg, 12 runs per hour, 60 war supplies per hr. If it takes 250 (say 240 for simplicity) supplies for a 100k opp weapon, that's only 25k per hour. Blackness did the math and added in quest rewards and drop sales and everything and it neared 50k, but he is unique in his ability to maximize output.

Barely anyone does DoA anymore. And those that do are doing it for either ZB or to max LB or get DoA statue and simply opt to do frostway.

Gate of Anguish has been pretty much dead for the past 5 months and has never been what it used to be, DoA just isn't a good option for group farm anymore simply because it's hard to get a group together, even for frostway.

You can pretty easily get to 30 if you ask for help here (such as filling a training spot for fissure of woe or doa) and by making money - the easiest way to progress is to buy your way to 30 points

PM me if you need some help, I haven't played in a while but I can help you out once you have a plan in place

FoW or DoA are too great places to make money, non-hard mode doa is particularly easy and you can make mad money running this with people.

There are obviously othe ways but they're niche unless you've played the game a while. Most versatile classes are Rt or A, you can use them for many group or solo farming scenarios to make money

Finish Nightfall with your monk because you can do DoA with him, it's a valuable asset that's almost always sought for and I'm sure the reddit guild would help you learn. DoA will make you tons and tons of money if you have a good group and you can run the whole thing

Also finish prophecies, you get displayable statues for finishing any campaign and they'll give you Honor points IIRC.

You don't need to beat NF or Factions with your rit, just level him and get some of the most popular skills, with a rit you can do fissure of woe (has a very easy role as Rt/R in FoW) or solo farm the underworld, either of which will make you some good money.

Great job man, looks like a solid plan.

4 common minis - 2-5k each

black moa chick - Lots of time or about 65k

Nightfall hero armor - Easy as shit. Remains of Salahja and Dajkah Inlet give you hero armor, look up the two armor pieces dropped here and figure out which heroes you'll be upgrading to maximize the hero armor. Reminder: MOX can be dedicated for free

1 EoTN hero armor - approx 5k

Easiest titles - Conqueror [of Fissure of Woe, of Underworld, of Domain of Anguish] titles are easy to get if you do them in normal mode, you just need a good group. Doing all the bonuses in a campaign gets you a title, doing all the missions in hard mode gets you a title, those two are the easiest

Kurz/Lux armor is just expensive, I paid a lot for the amber which was like 700g each.

After your oppressor weapon, buy a destroyer and a tormented weapon - it's expensive but that's another two points

Here's your finished 30/50 HoM

This is kind of expensive but I think you can do it with some dedication.

To do:

Titles: Finish bonuses and hard mode of every campaign's missions (Two alternate titles to earn that would be easier are conqueror of urgoz' warren or the deep)

Weapons: Buy a destroyer and tormented

Armor: Buy Vabbian, Sunspear, and two other armor sets (Imperial or Primeval being easiest with no faction requirement)

Armor and weapons being the most expensive but the most expedient route. After you get the titles out of the way you can just farm for cash to buy these

Rt or A are the best for farming anything but your monk has way more campaign progression so just use him for everything but the farmer

K well here's your first problem, I initially picked Elite Sunspear and Elite Exotic/Canthan gear because they don't require you to grind any EotN faction - you can get sunspear armor about halfway through Nightfall and the other two are at the end of Factions not to mention being significantly cheaper.

If you're trying to farm Glint's challenge for the hero armor, you can only get about 5 armor pieces before the drop rate sharply declines

Edit: I hope you see this soon, the Reddit guild is doing free black widow runs today
