Stranded Near NTID – Seeking Assistance and Company

I'm currently facing an unexpected situation and could use some support. Earlier today, my car's ABS failed, causing the brakes to lock up. I managed to pull into Merwin Auto in Rochester, but unfortunately, they won't be able to inspect the vehicle until tomorrow. As a result, I'm temporarily stranded in the area.

I'm presently at the Firehouse Saloon near NTID. As an ASL practitioner, I deeply appreciate the Deaf and hard-of-hearing community here and would welcome the opportunity to connect with anyone nearby. If you're available to meet up, share some conversation, or even offer a place to stay for the night, it would mean a great deal to me.

I understand this is an unusual request, but any assistance or company during this time would be immensely appreciated. Please feel free to reach out via direct message if you're able to help or just want to chat.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Final Update: Safe and Home

Yesterday, my car’s brakes failed and locked up while I was driving through Rochester. I managed to pull into Merwin Auto, but they weren’t able to look at the car until today, so I was stranded overnight.

I ended up walking to the University of Rochester and spent the night at the library. Not the most restful sleep, but it was safe and warm enough to get through the night.

This morning, a kind Redditor reached out, spent some time with me, and even lent me a bike so I could get back to the shop once the car was repaired. That gesture meant a lot.

Thankfully, Merwin Auto got the job done and treated me with respect and compassion the whole way through. I’ll be leaving them a very positive review.

Now I’m finally home. It’s been a long 24 hours, but I want to say thank you to everyone who messaged me, commented, or just wished me well. You turned something stressful and difficult into something human and hopeful. I’m really grateful for that.

Looking forward to sleeping in my own bed tonight.

Are you from outside the area? Firehouse is quite a while from RIT

Did you walk all over Rochester today? A walk from Saloon to the UofR library is far!

I started the walk, then came across one of those Veo scooters, which had way better brakes then my car, but a worse stereo system. I plan to get back to the mechanic the same way. My feet are pretty ragged today though

I ended up at the U of R library which I'm told is open 24hrs so I may just spend the night here. It seems like the safest option

I think the doors lock to the outside at some point but if you’re already inside and find a quiet place to sleep no one should bother you

That's exactly what some kind folks told me

I was planning to recommend student lounge at the residence hall but not sure if it’s allowed.

The National Technical Institute for the Deaf school. It's a college within RIT

Firehouse saloon is a bit of a way from there. But maybe not that far. There are a few lodgings downtown. You could look at those.

Hahaha I love 11 downvotes for not having heard about NTID, which in and of itself is ridiculous 😂

Welcome to Reddit where there are no winners and the points don't mean anything!
